Seinfeld’s Festivus Pole Moves To Fla Capitol

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Controversial Broward blogger Chaz Stevens’ festivus pole is headed to Florida’s Capitol.

Stevens has gotten state permission to install his pole on the Capitol grounds, which already features a crèche of the Nativity, a menorah and a banner from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

“My prayers were answered,” joshed Stevens, a self-described militant atheist.

The pole celebrates the fictional holiday of festivus, a parody of the season’s commercialism. It was introduced to the nation on the television show “Seinfeld” in 1987.

Festivus’ observance featured an aluminum pole on the show and Stevens has made his out of 23 Pabst Blue Ribbon beer cans.

Stevens created the pole after complaining  about religious symbols on Deerfield Beach property over the holidays.  As a response to a display of baby Jesus on city-owned land last year, Stevens forced Deerfield Beach to permit his pole on Federal Highway  next to the manger scene. Here is the Browardbeat.com story at the time.

Deerfield Beach decided to forgo any holiday displays on city property this year, handing Stevens a victory.

Stevens has a video of the the Seinfeld episode featuring festivus and a second video on how the making of the festivus pole on his website, Myactsofsedition.com.

People might object to his style and his self-promotion, but not Stevens’ results.  His investigative Internet stories have resulted in the removal of pols from office and has exposed much government wrongdoing.

Here is a copy of the letter sent from the state to Stevens taken from his blog:

Your request to place a display in the Plaza Level Rotunda beginning December 11, 2013 through January 3, 2014 has been approved. I will email your official confirmation letter and guidelines for use of state property including instructions for access to the Capitol on Monday, December 9. You may proceed with any steps you need to ready the display for shipping, preparation to install, etc. If you will not be the onsite coordinator to setup and breakdown the display, please provide me that person’s name and contact information and I will copy them on the confirmation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you,

  1. Patti Lynn says:

Hopefully, the result will be what Chaz wants: The removal of any religious display on government property. The City of Tamarac also has religious displays on city property. This is not a difficult issue, merely one of common sense.

  2. Sam Fields = Chaz Stevens says:

Stevens must be an acolyte of God-hating Sam Fields

  3. Ellen says:

    Sad, sad people…

  4. To The Point says:

Yeah. Patti Lynn the devil herself would certainly weigh in on this as she does with her big ignorant mouth on everything else she knows nothing about. She should ask Chaz for a few Pabst Blue Ribbon beers and go crawl under a rock. Does us all a favor!!!

  5. John Henry says:

This guy has too much time on his hands.

  6. What Would Reagan Do? says:

How appropriate this blurb appears a day after the loss of Nelson Mandela, a truly great man who made an incredible contribution to the world at great personal expense. Mandela brings races together and ends Apartheid. Chaz Stevens’s accomplishment is a beer can pole in Tallahassee. An insignificant life should be pitied, not ridiculed, so I will leave it at that.

  7. Sam Fields says:

I do not hate your god any more than I hate Zeus. How can you hate that which does not exist?

I might best describe myself as contemptuous of magical thinking based on the notion of an all powerful, supernatural, invisible beings whether it is Judeo-Christian, Scientology, Hindu, Muslim, etc.

P.S. I don’t belive that I have ever met Chaz Stevens

  8. Sam Adams says:

I don’t think standing up for the separation of church and state to be an insignificant point.

    Bravo Chaz!

  9. Nelson Mandela says:

The (apartheid) policy was supported by the Dutch Reform Church, which furnished apartheid with its religious underpinnings by suggesting that Afrikaners were God’s chosen people and that blacks were a subservient species. In the Afrikaner’s worldview, apartheid and the church went hand in hand.

  10. Sam The Sham says:

Why isn’t there somebody with a little guts and integrity in Deerfield City Hall and the Capital, to tell Chaz, “Nice try, but that is a joke religion. Festivus not approved.”

  11. This is Crazy says:

Only a fool says in his heart that there is no God…and only a fools would actually approve this nonsense in the Capitol.

  12. Christine says:

    @6
Individuals who are recognized as “geniuses” have discovered electricity, forged nations out of disparate states, arrived at the theory of relativity, invented the telephone, and developed life saving vaccines. These are the individuals history writes about, poets dream about, and children aspire to become.
A metal pole erection? Sounds like an adolescent male with impotence problems to me.

  13. Friedrich Nietzsche says:

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Yet his shadow still looms. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?

  14. Kevin says:

    It’s an early Festivus MIRACLE!!!!

  15. Kevin says:

I’ve got a lot of problems with you people in Tallahassee…. and now you’re gonna hear about it!!!!

  16. Why does Chaz lie? says:

He claims Pop’s residence as his own. Did he move his “wife” in to his 8th grade bedroom? With all of the video and pics recording his Festivus pole at the Capitol, notice he wasn’t wearing a wedding ring? So why lie that you are married when you are not? What else might he have lied about?

  17. Chaz Stevens says:

    Dear Little People;

If you thought Chaz Stevens was an insufferable bastard before … then being on Fox News, Colbert, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and a shit load of other national media sources (we lost count) ain’t gonna make it any better for those special “fans” of Chaz Stevens.

Happy Festivus and lick my ball.

As seen on TV. Lots of TV.

  18. Yup Chazzy says:

You were on lots of tv last nite…and several commentators called you a “clown”.
