Voters Get Smart: Ilene Lieberman Loses

BY BUDDY NEVINS

When I hear people complain about voters, I almost always defend them.

Voters proved again Tuesday they were smart enough to reject the well-funded, but deeply flawed judicial candidate Ilene Lieberman for the better experienced Kathleen McHugh.

Lieberman thought the political contacts built during her years as Lauderhill mayor and her 16-year tenure at the county commission would propel her to the County Court bench.

But she forget that she made many enemies during her time at the commission and generated reams of negative publicity that came back to haunt her.

As I wrote here before: Lieberman was unqualified by her temperment and experience to be a judge. The voters agreed with me.

Don’t feel sorry for Ilene.  Her taxpayer-funded pension after earning a $90,000-plus salary at the commission will leave her comfortable.  I don’t know what it is, but it will be far more than the average Broward resident makes for working.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m glad I was a smart voter today.

  2. Independent says:

Yipee. Only proves that voters can select a good judge when they see one.

  3. Lamberti is Garbage says:

Lieberman belongs in jail with Dirty Lamberti.

  4. Sam The Sham says:

I concur. I think that this settles the discussion that the choice of judges should be removed from the electorate. The more the electorate gets to vote, the better.

Buddy, haven’t you said judges should be appointed? What say you now?

    FROM BUDDY:

I still believe judges should be appointed and regularly face merit retention elections.

  5. Watcher says:

I can’t believe I agree on something with Sham…merit retention doesn’t go to civic groups and press the flesh. It results if at all in throwing the baby out with the bath water…getting opposition humbles judges even when they win…hey we even got to see Dale Ross smile…

  6. Kevin says:

    Well, I am mildly shocked.

I guess voter disgust with the one candidate overcame the shoddy mailers from the other.

You just never know in elections, sometimes. And it’s always the unexpected results that keep it interesting to study.

I think at one time, Lieberman was a good person. BBut over the years, the power went to her head. What a disgrace for her to have it all end this way.

  8. Beverly Gillis says:

Congratulations to the citizens of Broward County. What goes around comes around….it’s nice to have been a part of the “take down”.

  9. mustbecrazy says:

Well Thank Goodness. I hope we NEVER have to hear that name again associated with any public office.

  10. G.B. says:

I must say it is with great pleasure that I witness the loss of Ilene Lieberman in this race.
She did NOT deserve to be elected to any office, much less a judgeship.
Her pompous arrogance finally caught up to her. Good riddance!
Now she can go back to her questionable lobbying practice since she no longer feeds at the public trough.
Congratulations to the ONLY qualified candidate in that race: The Honorable Katie McHugh.

And this is a shock that she lost. She does not care becaus e now she can give her full attention to representing the Vanishing Boater-Guma Augiar mother. Tell this tramp Ilene I am not buying it Red. Defend her all you want you will never pass the litmus test. The man is basiccly lost at sea, no more no less. Explain th e fact that it wasn’t 48 hrs later, mind you the Coast Guard had not even finished looking for poor Guma and the mother files for Conseravator of his 100 mill estate. No way. These actions there is no other word then calling her(mother) a tramp in plain English.Chief Adderly do not cave in to Lieberman or Seiler. Tell them both I will declare Guma dead after 60 months. And if they don’t like it to bad. And Mayor Seiler you are just as bad. Sure the Probate Judge appoints you, even though we have ho w many attorneys in Broward County, but The Probate Judge picks you? I know because you are just soooo special. Oh I know Jack, knowing that once Guma is declared dead Jackie here, Seiler stands to collect what is it Jack 3million. . Please Ilene Lieberman is not going to be a jUdge in Broward County is a good day for Broward. Yoyr next Mayor Seiler.
