The Dalai Lama Is A Big Phony

BY SAM FIELDS
Guest Columnist

The Dalai Lama will be speaking at Nova Southeastern on Tuesday.

You can bet his audience will consist of fawning intellectual oafs. These fans of His Holiness — they are paying up to $400 per ticket to the sold-out event — deny what Tibet was like under the Delai Lama and his equally dictatorial predecessors.

No matter what he did, the Dalai Lama gets a free pass. Every evil he stands for has been subjected to virtual worldwide amnesia.

delai lama

 Dalai Lama

No matter what he says, it is viewed as a cross between The Sermon on the Mount and the Gettysburg Address.

It is a sad state of affairs that the only country that speaks the truth is The People’s Republic of China.

His latest public view was coming to the White House as he sought sympathy by proclaiming that he is “the unluckiest Dalai Lama” because he is not able to live in Tibet.

Based on 300 years of the 14 Dalai Lamas, his bad luck is the good luck of the Tibetan people.

Their rule was a theological dictatorship complete with a serf-based culture  that kept 95% or the population illiterate and in involuntary servitude.

Slave sales were the order of the day as was torture and execution for dissenters.

Sitting at the head of this abomination was the Dalai Lama, who resided in a sumptuous palace offering the theological rationalization of karma.  Karma  says we are where we are because of how we lived in a prior life.

Karma is easy to believe in when you’re the one in the palace.

In this country, The Right likes him because he is viewed as anti-communist.  The Left likes him because they have bought into Hollywood’s image from The Lost Horizon combined with New Age bullshit.

Some days it seems that the only people speaking the truth about him are me along, with Showtime’s Penn and Teller.

sam, your name should be changed to “Rail” because that is all you do against people and what they stand for. are you just trying to be the local anti-BillReilly. do you just have nocturnal dream about morphing into Keith Totally off base Olberman. Because people feel differently than you, do you just hate them. WHY?

You have serious insecurity issues, for anybody that doesn’t think like you, you just flail half cocked and criticize them. i wonder if its your undeniable guilt associated with your having to defend bad people for a living and somehow you are trying to compensate for that. just give up defending bad people, “Rail” and you will feel peace like the Dali Lama can give you. Brother “Rail”, you will be okay, and the book is still out on if you will be deemed a good or not so good person.

  2. Seth Platt says:

Talk about misguided anger. The Chinese Government is far from truth tellers. They Censor all kinds of information. You can’t even read this article in China. Absurd to even give you space to spew this hatred. Perhaps if you embraced some Buddhist philosophies you would find more peace. Catholics have a dictatorship too(Pope)along with many other religions where Hierarchy is king.
Freedom is the real issue here. you can write and believe what you want here in America, in China you cannot.

  3. Nick Day says:

    @editors of browardbeat.com

I used to read your blog quite often but after reading this piece of crap, I’ll have to let you go.

You must be the only guy who trusts Chinese Govt., even my Chinese friends don’t.

He didn’t come to White House, he was invited and your thing about the “unluckiest…” doesn’t make any sense to me.

The language you speak of, about Tibet’s history, seems much like a copy/paste thing from Chinese propaganda website.

His “palace” was the Tibetan Govt. office too, and his personal room is smaller than my one bedroom apartment in New York. Do a little research, or atleast google it. In Buddhism, one of the biggest cause of suffering is ignorance.

But if you’re just seeking attention, for yourself of this website, then I’m afraid you just lost a regular reader.

  4. SAM FIELDS says:

Have I said one thing that is not the truth and needs to be made public.

Based on your comments the answer is no. All I get from you is personal attacks and not issue response

  5. CuriousO says:

sam, you know what is interesting, i agree with a bunch of your positions. BUT I don’t let my opinions cloud my brain to have unmitigated disdain for others’ opinions and beliefs and don’t hold my opinions to be the end all only view. you write your opinions from the perspective they are infallible and the only correct ones. others are entitled to their opinions and neither you nor i can say their opinions are wrong , because neither you or i are all that.

  6. disenchanted says:

a salami malekum to you my brother…. sam u must, i repeat must go out and get laid, with whatever, it will do wonders for your disposition, but watch out for those inflatible dolls i know you have several. sam he is a good man, even if you disagree with the history of tibet.

  7. Coolio says:

Sam: An alert from a friend: A lunatic is writing ridiculous articles for this blog and signing your name.

  8. Sum Ting Wong says:

I tink sum ting wong wit Sam hed. Could be I tink Sam have a turd stuck in ear too long and it fry his brain. I tink Sam need sum long dong instead to loosen turd in ear so brain work like normal person. Ha ha on Sam, he tink he smart but he fool instead.

  9. Tomas says:

Tibet is a country under military occupation by foreign communist troops. It is hard to believe a defense attorney who daily works to free criminals on our streets would argue against freeing the people of Tibet.
The people of Tibet want the Dalia Lama to return and save them from Chinese oppression.
Please, Buddy. Stop Sam Fields from writing this crap.

  10. J. Parker says:

No, Sam, you are the phony, masquerading as a human being. You invariably criticize those who disagree with you by saying that they do not take you on on the issues. What you don’t understand is that the issues are not the point; rather, the point is that you choose just to hate and denigrate anyone and everyone who has a belief not shared by you, and all who believe in a being greater than themselves. How must it feel to walk about pretending all day to be God? You are pathetic, and it is disgusting that Buddy continues to give you time and space. Again, same rant, different day. Go back to New York, see if they will give you a law license and leave the rest of us alone.

  11. SAM FIELDS says:

    Dear J. Parker,
I want to congratulate you on admitting that “the issues are not the issue”.

Unfortunately for you they are with me. I have better things to do than spend my time attacking your personality or lack thereof.

I left NY in 1955. I am a 1956 graduate of Shenandoah Elementary, NM JHS and NMHS, UM. My family has Miami ties as far back as the 1930’s. I don’t think I will be moving to the Big Apple anytime soon.

You seem to feel that if I don’t like Hello Dolly I must like Mao. Why can’t I dislike both. Can’t I reject Batista and Castro.

What is clear is that you don’t dispute that Dalai and his ilk ran a vicious totalitarian regime. The implication is that you support that type of government.

  12. Sam's Warped says:

American viewpoints and standards can’t be used to judge Tibet, it’s history, culture and forms of governance. You cannot import those veiwpoints and apply them to a radically different place and yet hope to arrive at any rational conclusion about what works best in that nation. Nor is that analysis invited by Tibetians.

The assumption that there can only be one form of acceptable government everywhere in the world, to which all peoples must aspire, is a concept without precident. It ignores everything that history has taught us about how the world really works.

The assumption that only Americans know how to govern is similarly laced with hubris, not just given our own problems, but also because most world nations were considered advanced when our ancestors were still swinging on trees and dwelling in the caves of Europe. To suggest otherwise would be astounding.

You want to know what Tibetians think of the Dalai Lama? Ask them. Ask the people of Tibet that question and you will learn that they want the Dalia Lama back. So much so that China has to step in and stop them.

It is China, not the Dalai Lama, that deserves the vicious and totalitarian viewpoint label, otherwise they’d allow the people to do as they please, yet again using an American standard for comparison.

Sam Fields has this prejudiced viewpoint that the entire world has to circle around his particular moral and political views. However that is not an axis that this world recognizes, and most here in the US are not impressed with that viewpoint either. His is a voice crying out for attention from a pit of indifference.

  13. CuriousO says:

Sam, bottom line: Dali Lama, good human being.

Sam, Valium works, according to all published reports. Just something for you to consider.

  14. For Sam says:

Take a break, brother Sam, and relax.
Your unnecessary attacks on a man of peace prove you are an unhappy person whose sense of humor disguises the crying you are doing inside.
You need the relaxation that Buddhism can bring.
    Relax. Look into yourself.

  15. J. Parker says:

Sam, I repeat. The overwhelming aversion to you is NOT because of particular issues, but, rather, because you damn anyone who holds a different position on ANY issue. It is your personality, not your brain, that is so utterly offensive. You are also childish beyond belief.

LMAO too funny, best post of the day

  17. frank icanosty says:

Buddy, you have previously remarked that much of what this thing submits to you for “guest posting” must be edited or overlooked entirely. If that is really the case, I would be most interested to discover what qualifies as worse than the above ludicrous, scurrilous attack upon His Holiness the Dalai Lama which you apparently thought was suitable for posting.

    FROM BUDDY:

The Dalai Lama is not immune from criticism. No one is and Fields is not alone in his beliefs.

  18. PublicFigure says:

The sad thing is that this guys right, I like how childish the comments are on this page becuase that just helps his cause. Spelling, capitalization, and grammical errors plague this page, and the real politics who have actual power and do things won’t listen to you when your like this. You all are acting like immature 21-year-olds and don’t seem to do your research before you post. Freaking read “People’s Republic of China” aswell as Google it. If you actualy look it up he’s right.

Btw: Please point out if I make any mistakes, thank you.

  19. CuriousO says:

Buddy, maybe not alone, but he is in the very minute minority. is he next going after mother teresa?

  20. SAM FIELDS says:

    Dear Curious
I have gone after Mother Teresa although but not as thoroughly as Christopher Hitchens in his book “The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa In theory and Practice.”

    Dear Warped
Do you really think we should accept Tibet and the Lamas on relative terms. That’s ok if you are a fan of totalitarian government, torture, slavery and murder.

How about The Nuremburg Laws …it was just a German thing.

You know the difference between Maoist China and Tibet under the Dalai Lama….reincarnation.

You idiots have bought that Hollywood New Age bullshit the same way the Weatherman Faction of the SDS bought into Mao’s Little Red Book.

A bunch of spoiled middleclass brats buying into the religion de jour from their air conditioned condos.

If you or Richard Gere had to spend one day living like the average Tibetan under that putz you would be crying for your mommies like the little bitches that you are.

If the Dalai Lama had one ounce of integrity he would walk back in Tibet and martyr himself for the Tibetan people. After all if he really believed in reincarnation it would only be a temporary inconvenience.

Not likely since he would loose his CIA allowance not to mention all the “strange” he is getting.

  21. Facts says:

    Sam,

Where do you get this historical analysis from? You make a lot of assertions, none of which are supported by any credible facts. Please direct me to a source or portal where I can learn more about your assertions.

    Thank you.

  22. SAM FIELDS says:

    Dear Facts,
That is the first fair question and I have attached a link to the writer Michael Parenti. http://www.michaelparenti.org/Tibet.html

If you wish to read the preeminent scholar I suggest you go to Melvyn Goldstein.

  23. SAM FIELDS says:

According to the reports on his Nova speech he apparently called for the U.S. to spread its ideas on democracy which directly contravenes `what “Warped” says about him.

But none of this is surprising. It is a cult mentality which, above all, requires the suspension of critical thinking. Never question the authority or wisdom of the “Supreme Leader”. It’s like “1984” when Big Brother would regularly rewrite history and insist it was always that way.

Back in the 1960’s, when I was in grad school for Russian History, I would buy books from the Soviet Union. It was eye-opening. I still have a copy of “The History of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union” published in 1960. That was at the height of Khrushchev’s de-Stalinization program. Joseph Stalin’s name is not mentioned one single time. The Yalta Conference of February 1945 simply refers to “the Soviet representative”.

According to the Sentinel Hello Dalai spoke glowingly of Mao’s early years. Amazing!!!! During his early years in power Mao instituted an agricultural collectivist program that, along with his political cleansing, lead to the direct and indirect death of over 60,000,000.

Based on numbers he makes Hitler and Stalin look like Quakers.

Unlike some of my critics I am hindered by the problem that when I want to vent I always find the truth takes control of my keyboard.

  24. The Courthouse Rambler says:

Sam Fields has finally revealed himself as a student of communism. It obviously sank in.
Did the fact that Stalin was not mentioned upset you?
You act like Stalin. Anybody who has different beliefs is abused.
Just remember, Sam, what Stalin and his Chinese friends did to pushy lawyers like you.

  25. CuriousO says:

    to Sam Fields Tse-Tung:

You are right, Comrade. The Lama has spoken and it was “the HOOOOOORRROOOOR”, as you indicated. He spoke of spreading democracy, compassion for our fellow man, respect for our fellow man, the news media guarding democracy, educating young people…

I don’t know how i could have been so naive in believing he was about good, with these horrifying in your face messages and themes.

Don’t worry Brother Comrade Fields, the order will prevail. We now have to come up with monikers. I will be Deep Throat (Linda Lovelace or Watergate, hmmm….) and you can be Deep Delusional (we can be the Doubles “D”s!!). you can text me at 000-000-0000. until then, “Get Smart”.

  26. Greg Alario says:

Sam, what a profound, original, sincere observation. I pity your lost state of mind. Your own self loathing is a product of your lack of contribution to life. Get on and leave his holiness alone. Shame on you!

  27. Peter says:

    Seth Platt

I am replaying your post from Chengdu, Sichuan

Yes, we can see this article in China. Just buy a plane ticket to any one major city in China, find a random internet cafe and prove yourself wrong.

Many Chinese and I are already very tired at your bias about today’s China, which has changed a lot from its past.

You say ridiculous stuff without even google it first. And still you think you are the wise ones and we are the blinded.

Chinese government used to tell a lot of lies. But on this particular issue of Tibet, it is the western media and the Dalai Lama, the biggest slave owner ever BTW, that tell most of the lies.

    Let’s talk numbers.

Here’s some questions for Shangri-la supporters

What is the population of ethnic Tibetans before China’s takeover, and what is the number now?

What is the number of Buddhist temples before China’s takeover, and what is the number now?

What is the percentage of serfs in tibetan population before China’s takeover, and what is the number now?

How many babies can a Tibetan couple have and how many can a Han couple have?

I encourage you make up questions of your own.

    Again, let’s talk numbers

  28. pablo says:

Is is not one of the major precepts in Buddhism that the laws of Karma rule ?

Was it not the result of Tibet’s cause and effect that they lost there country. As we all know Tibet tried to take ove China in the past. Not to say it is right but don’t things happen because og Karma ?

  29. Pablo says:

As we all know Tibet tried to take ove China in the past. Not to say it is right but don’t things happen because of Karma ?

  30. HH says:

Great article. For all westerners, please, Buddhism does not equate Dalai Lama. I’m a Buddhist and please don’t stain my religion with that scum. I won’t dwell into political views between China and the US and the Tibet issue, but I can tell you that people in Tibet FEAR Dalai Lama like no other. In one instance, Dalai Lama “punishes” a peasant to be a mute because he failed to listen to Dalai Lama. Dalai Lama said it’s a divine punishment and that he is not allowed to speak for his entire life. If you call that Buddhism, I call that a cult. Please, I don’t care what you believe in but don’t worship this human who claims to be a buddha himself. He is not. Did I mention that he altered his birthday in birth certificate to match with the Buddha’s birthday?

  31. wenceslao says:

Fuck the Dalai Lama and fuck the brutal government of China,
free tibet from those both assholes.

  32. TH says:

Sam, HH and Wenceslao are absolutely right. The pure ignorance of these people who are so caught up in hero-worship that they won’t even consider examining the evidence; it’s disgusting. Buddhism is a pure, godless idea free of classism, bigotry and the like, but His “Holiness” has tainted that jewel with the blood of Tibetan serfs. He censored his people, forbidding the practice of Dorje Shugden Buddhism, he allied himself with Nazis during WWII, and his very position as the Dalai Lama was orchestrated by politicians. Open your eyes, people, Buddhism deserves better representatives than war criminals like His “Holiness.”

  34. Skyler says:

Its a shame people do not look this stuff up for themselves before they decided that you were just spouting off hate or anger. They would learn what you say has truth and needs to be recognized if you wish to have any opinion on the Dalai Lama.

Buddhism is a beautiful religion. But unfortunately, like religion, it can be overtaken by those who wish to use it for control or harm of others. Use of religion is the perfect ruse for those who wish to do wrong.

I hope that one day, the people of Tibet can overcome the oppression that faces them at all fronts. I hope that Buddhism can escape this ugly figurehead.

And for those who wish to doubt this and other facts (such as the regime that rules Tibet would go through it’s peasant’s homes looking for artifacts from other sects of Buddhism and burn them as well as punish the persons housing them), please look it up. You have an amazing world of knowledge at your fingertips.

  35. Chris says:

the Dalai Lama propaganda machine, the Mind and Life Institute , a movement of quietism and fantasies to put the world to sleep by another bunch of academic utopians, and Dalai Lama groupies, that call themselves scientists and scholors, while blindly supporting a ninth century misogynistic , sexually abusive cult of Hindu Tantra mumbo- jumbo and a master-slave paradigm called Tibetan ‘Buddhism’, that intellectually superior ones are ‘renaming’ ’Secular Ethics’ and ‘Scientific.’
