Scott Israel Wins Sheriff’s Nomination; Edwards Wins House Seat
BY BUDDY NEVINS
Dirty politics paid off for Scott Israel Tuesday.
Using nasty ads and robo calls, Israel won the Democratic nomination for sheriff.
Israel’s opponent Louis Granteed was the victim of a relentless campaign of attack ads, outright smears and dirty tricks in the last week of the campaign.
Israel from his better champaign organization and name recognition left over from his 2008 race, too.
Granteed was no innocent. His supporters used attack ads and phony robo calls, too.
The Sun-Sentinel refused to endorse either candidate, calling the campaigns “rank”.
Israel now faces incumbent Sheriff Al Lamberti, the Republican who beat him four years ago.
In one of the most watched Florida House races, candidate Katie Edwards easily defeated her opponent Louis Reinstein. Reinstein’s campaign resorted to attack ads in the closing days of the campaign, but he was outworked by Edward’s grass roots campaigning.
I live in the district. I was visited three times by the Edwards campaign and never had any contact with Reinstein’s campaign.
The open seat is in Davie, Plantation and Sunrise. Since it leans Democratic, Edwards is almost certainly will be in Tallahassee next year.

Just what we need a low life who thinks he can be the Sheriff. We have the best in Al Lamberti and Al will easily beat this scumbag even with the dirty politics israel seems to be so good at.

Dirty politics paid off for Dirty Lamberti and you were silent. No job for you. Lamberti is despicable.

This Israel cat is not messing around. No laying down this time this dude is serious
August 14th, 2012 at 10:22 pm
It is truly unbelievable that with all the dirty campaigning that Israel did, he came in so far ahead of Granteed. I am so disappointed in the voters, but what can we expect? Were they going on the name alone? Jewish name + he ran before so he had name recognition? Or did they fall for the dirty tricks and actually believe that George Bush was endorsing Granteed?

Dear Scott:
CONGRATULATIONS!
In response to the above negative comment and as a lifelong friend, I know you’re an extraordinary person, both as a man and as a leader. Besides being extremely interesting and well read, you have the capacity to exhibit just how humble you are, whether you are talking with the people or giving a speech at the podium. These traits only endear you to the masses.
Upon being elected, I know you fully understand your obligation to step up to the challenges of a shared vision of a responsible Sheriff’s Department characterized, above all, by the integrity of its leadership.
Scott, you have dedicated your life to protecting the community and there is no quality of life if our homes and neighborhoods aren’t safe and our children and seniors are left unprotected.
We all know you will remain steadfast in your commitment to a Sheriff’s Department that puts the public first.
God Speed!

“I intend to run a fact-based campaign about what has happened in the Broward Sheriff’s Office under Republican Sheriff Al Lamberti. I am confident once voters know Lamberti’s record and my proposals for new honest leadership at BSO that we will win in November.”
the above from Brittany’s S-S blog
http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/news/politics/broward/blog/2012/08/dem_sheriffs_nominee_scott_isr.html
So israel beats the opponent in dem primary. big deal. what will he do to convince independents and repubs to vote for him, or turn out at all? Lamberti will win again, sadly, on Nov. 6 unless israel demonstrates beyond ALL DOUBT he is the better qualified candidate. kinda like a known devil is better than an unknown one (just an analogy, no devils per se I am no real fan of either just want honesty, integrity and prudence in how BSO does their job for us taxpayers)
Buddy please keep the pressure on and get them to address these issues

NY Top Cop is actually Scott Israel’s mother.
August 14th, 2012 at 11:57 pm
You keep calling it “dirty politics” and “by Israel.” Wrong and wrong. First, the “dirty” “smears” about Granteed were true. So how was it dirty, a smear, or unfair to reference allegations from published news reports, trial verdicts, etc? Secondly, the attacks were not by Israel. They were done by an outside group that seemingly has its own agenda and was not coordinated with Israel. Perhaps a more accurate way to describe this win would be “Israel Wins Big Victory with Factual Campaign

Hey Sam you wish I was his mother. NOT and negative dirt mongers like you is the reason the voters rebuked and voted for the right candidate. You fooled them once. I will bet they will not be
fooled again.

Buddy, you’ve got this one wrong. It’s pretty clear that you have some beef with Scott Israel, and so you have to credit his 2:1 victory over Louie Granteed on dirty campaign tricks.
Half of the votes in yesterday’s election were early or absentee votes. Israel won absentee votes 2:1, Israel won early votes 2:1, and finally Israel won election day 2:1.
So unless the attack ads in the last days of the campaign were so powerful that they warped space and time itself, you might as well just admit that the voters overwhelmingly chose Israel and you didn’t.
FROM BUDDY:
I’ve got no beef with Israel. In fact, I find the guy charming which is a good trait in a leader. He also has been totally straight with me, which is more than I can say for his defeated opponent.
My beef is with the negative campaigning. Israel should have denounced it immediately. A source told me that his campaign team knew about the ads before they ran. I don’t like candidates who will do anything to win.
I also believe that the lack of civility as represented by those ads is what’s wrong with politics from here to Washington.
Why did Israel win?
Israel benefitted from much better name recognition and a better campaign team.
The negative ads hit a week before Election Day, right in the midst of early and absentee voting. They must have had some effect. But you were right to point out they were not the only reason for Israel’s victory and I changed the post to reflect that. I don’t want any future candidate to believe they can win with attack ads alone.
Also helping Israel was Granteed. He was a poor candidate with a flawed past. I believe his telling voters he was a life-long Democrat even after the elections office denied it was a big error.
Without a sophisticated survey, no one will ever know what caused voters to choose Israel. However, he won so overwhelmingly that there must be many reasons.

Hey bag of dirt you better look in the mirrior because its obvious that you are also a ignorant individual who has no class. I do feel that after being a proud police officer for 17 years here in Broward you get to read people alot easier and after every time I saw israel at a function all I saw was his lack of intelligence. I had the pleasure of working with Sheriff lamberti and they are like night and day. The difference is Lamberti has class and not a sour attitude like Israel
August 15th, 2012 at 10:22 am
Where was Buddy’s indignation in 2008 when his precious Al Lamberti conspired with felon Scott Rothstein and dirtbag Roger Stone to deliver the most disgusting, false, negative character attack against Scott Israel (the worst in Broward County’s history) during the last week of that campaign?
Has Buddy forgotten that face phone calls from George Bush phone calls that were also mysteriously made by Lamberti in 2008? Isn’t that a coincidence?
The fact is these latest tactics have Al Lamberti’s fingerprints all over them. Buddy Nevins must know this yet he is quick to blame it on Scott Israel despite saying Scott tells the truth. Despite the fact that the Israel campaign was tight for cash.
Who had the cash to pull such a stunt Buddy?
Talk about investigative journalism?
Follow where that money was spent and you will have your answer. It won’t be with Scott Israel.
You do a very lousy job pretending to be objective about this sheriff race. It is Al Lamberti who is trying to pull the levers in this county from behind the curtain and you know it.

Katie Edwards will be first Plantation native to be elected to a state seat in November.
I as many of my friends were disgusted with the Reinstein negative mailers and his lack of meeting the voters. Running for office takes more than just rubbing elbows with the heavy hitters in the Democratic Ex board. Plantation will come out strong for OUR girl in November!! thank you to Plantation Woman’s Club xoxo
August 15th, 2012 at 10:26 am
Now comes the moment of reckoning for Granteed.
If he endorses Lamberti we will all know he was a stooge in that campaign all along just seeking a job inside a Lamberti BSO. I predict that is exactly what Granteed will do.
August 15th, 2012 at 9:31 pm
ever since Ken Jenne ran for sheriff the office has been questionable. Jenne was responsible for all the Taj mahal work at their main offices, right? and when he met his downfall, was Lamberti next in line and got the job? Then rain for election and got his own term? So Lamberti was in right place at right time when Jenne was taken down. I would consider a change in sheriff just to keep those entrenched in power from getting more powerful. Is Israel so bad that giving Lamberti 4 more years is preferred?
August 16th, 2012 at 7:35 am
Really??? you’re asking is Israel that bad. Did you not see the race he won conducted by that pig Amy Rose (sorry pigs)
The sheriff should be appointed by the commission in my view. By the time our next sheriff is elected they will all be painted as liars…criminals….perverts or all of the above. Sets a nice positive tone don’t you think??
August 16th, 2012 at 3:15 pm
It is not negative campaigning if you are telling the truth. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. If Israel had to take out robo-calls to get the message about Granteed’s corruption out there then good for him!
I have been following this race for some time as a critic of our criminal justice system. And Granteed with his love of strip clubs and associations with corrupt characters like Ponzi Schemer Scott Rothstein shows he was not worthy of the nomination.
Congrats Scott- you deserved it!
FROM BUDDY:
How about the robo calls with a George W. Bush impersonator?
August 16th, 2012 at 5:13 pm
Scott Rothstein’s Gestapo, also known as BSO deputies under Sheriff Al Lamberti, harassed Broward citizens. This convicted criminal, Rothstein and his associates spent nearly $200,000 to elect Republican Lambertti Sheriff. Their day is over.
August 16th, 2012 at 6:24 pm
Said in this comment piece, “dirty politics paid off for Scott Israel.” What’s going to pay off for Scott Israel are the dirty breaches of public trust during Al Lamberti’s tenure as Broward Sheriff. For example, Lamberti’s top BSO officer took Super Bowl tickets and a ride in a private plane from Scott Rothstein. Lamberti cleared his officer even though it is a felony under Florida Law for a police officer to take gifts. This will come back to bite Lamberti in November.
August 16th, 2012 at 10:50 pm
It’s hard to tell which “Scott” everybody is referring to here . . . the legitimate Scott Israel (who will end up being the new sheriff) or dirty crook Scott Rothstein who used Lamberti and BSO like a lap dog.
August 18th, 2012 at 12:16 am
Scott Israel should be given a chance. He could not be worse than Lamberti. As you said Buddy, Israel has been straight with you.
August 18th, 2012 at 11:07 am
I agree with Juanpablo. Time for a change at BSO.
August 18th, 2012 at 11:55 am
>> Juanpablo says:
Scott Israel should be given a chance. He could not be worse than Lamberti.
Vote for Mussolini! He’s no Hitler!!!
August 19th, 2012 at 3:39 pm
Hey Buddy, then stand up for the Rothstien money used against Scott Israel the last time around. Boy how can anyone including a Sheriff accept money for negative campaigning from a ponzi scheme diversion. Lets call it the way it is. Vindictive people that accepted dirty money from a criminal? You think they didn’t know what the man Rothstien represented? Wow speak up this is a Sheriff’s Office….
Come on Buddy
August 20th, 2012 at 6:02 am
Good Luck to Scott Israel. He obviously convinced enough voters to win the primary. If you are a true democrat you will support his candidacy in November over his Republican opponent. Ask yourself why the PBA endorsed him ????? If the police won’t endorse Lamberti thats reason enough to support Scott.
August 28th, 2012 at 10:15 pm
In my opinion,
Scott Israel will be highly visible, logical, optimistic, confident, action oriented leader who’s always willing to listen and value the opinions of others.
In view of that, I believe he will review the entire agency in order to develop a key team, set goals, and promote a new direction with a premier vision for the future of the organization. “Cutting Edge Policing”
Scott Israel will bring a vision for a better BSO and make certain the men and women understand how they will get there as a TEAM where core values, integrity and camaraderie serve as the framework.
More importantly, Scott Israel fully understands that it’s his obligation to step up to the challenges of a shared vision of a responsible Sheriff’s Department characterized, above all, by the integrity of its leadership.
