Sam Fields On The GOP Trash Talk

It’s astounding to listen to the quality—make that the “low quality”– of the debate among the candidates for the GOP Presidential nomination.

“Fellatio” and “penis size” have replaced “deficit spending” and “national security” as issues. Can we look forward to the next debate including a farting contest or a “sword fighting” competition? (Note to female readers: This activity does not involve actual swords.)

GOP rhetoric is starting to sound like a script for a new Porky’s sequel. My clients, 2 Live Crew, are blushing.

I am not saying that guys don’t privately engage in in this kind of trash talk. We all do a lot of things that are only acceptable in private company. That’s why they have doors on bathrooms.

I can only imagine what FOX News and the GOP would be saying if the Democrats were talking like this.

If I had to look for an explanation it’s not just Donald Trump. He only started the race to the moral bottom.

It’s the GOP voters who have not only given him a pass on trash talk, but have cheered it on and made it a successful strategy.

It’s Marco Rubio who foolishly thought he could win a mud fight with a pig.

But trash talk is not enough for Trump. Hate talk is his real meat and potatoes.

Donald Trump has tapped into the darkest and most negative side of American Populism. It’s personified by people like Tom Watson, who pushed anti-trust laws and railroad regulation, but egged on many of the 4,000 lynchings during the Jim Crow Era.

Your life was not good; blame it on the blacks and Jews, Watson said.

Now you can wag that same finger at the Muslims and Mexicans.

And what is the solution? Ban the Muslims from coming here the same way we did with the Chinese Exclusion Act? How do we deal with the ones already here? The same way we did with Japanese-Americans during WWII?

The Mexicans? Build a wall. But, who’s going to pay for it? Notwithstanding a degree from the Wharton School of Business, he lies to cheering crowds that he will take it out of Mexico’s $58 billion dollar trade surplus…as if the surplus was owned by the Mexican government.

In point of fact it is the money of Mexican corporations doing business with American corporations. Many of those Mexican corporations are subsidiaries of those same American corporations.

Is he going to seize billion$ from Nabisco–who will soon be making Oreos south of the Rio Grande?

So far Trump has succeeded by appealing to the worst in us. Cooler Republican heads hope that this will be exposed and cured before their convention in July.

I certainly hope that this type of talk will be shamed out of existence before the November election.

Nothing bigger than the “American soul” is at stake.

I agree that these debates are getting out of hand but you are really reaching 100 years back into obscurity in referencing this Tom Watson guy.

Republican Primary debates should be run by Republicans and moderated by Republicans. Asking the media to do it is crazy folly. Even Fox News is not the right choice for it. It should be produced from the coffers of the RNC and offered to the media to run it. Otherwise just post it on the internet.

This ridiculous back and forth bickering does nothing but make the candidates look foolish and un-Presidential. They should turn the mics off for the candidate not speaking. Just as Buddy has referenced in this blog about taking cheap shots against other posters, neither should the debaters at an RNC moderated debate. Debaters should stick to the subject and discuss predetermined subjects of policy and qualifications. Perhaps before the debates, each candidate could produce a 3-5 minute infomercial on his positions. The way things are going now plays directly into Democrat hands and the GOP is complicit in allowing it.

As far as the Mexican border is concerned, that is a real problem. If you were to add the $58 billion of trade deficits to the $28 Billion of annual remissions to Mexico you get $86 billion per year going south, leaving the country. If you apply a 5% tariff to them (with a 4 year sunset) that would generate more than enough money to build a wall.

Seizing business and assets is foolish and overly simplistic. You simply make conditions for manufacturing and other businesses more friendly here than there. Lower taxes and regulations means more jobs and a better economy. Give an amnesty to foreign corporate profits and that money will come streaming back here and invest in our economy.

    FROM BUDDY:

Let’s face it. The cable news networks, who usually have tiny audiences, are pulling in record ratings during the debates because of the trash talk. With commercial TV, it’s always all about the Benjamin’s:

“CNN has amended its criteria for inclusion in its upcoming Republican debate, essentially clearing the way for GOP aspirant Carly Fiorina to participate in the Sept. 16 primetime face-off. But it is Donald Trump who is likely helping the network cash in.

“With tune-in expected to break records, CNN is asking between $150,000 and $200,000 for a 30-second spot, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. A typical primetime spot during a debate would fetch $5,000.” — The Hollywood Reporter.

    Dear Archduke,

I don’t think anyone should want the parties to run the debates.

Do you really want Debbie Wasserman-Schultz or Reince Pribus to control the program and the questions????

They would turn it into GOP and Democratic infomercials.

Or worse they would start rigging the questions for the party insiders.

With all its flaws, it is infinity better for the voters to have independent reporters running the show

FYI Thomas “Pa” Watson was the racist Senator from Georgia from the Era of Hanging African Americans who tried to vote or the odd Northern Jewish executive who opened factories to employ Christian women or African Americans like Mr Franks the victim of a racist anti-Semitic “Pa” Watson lynch mob

  6. just one vote says:

Not to worry. After March 15 the debates will be down to three candidates. Trump will sweep Michigan on Tuesday and both FL and OH on March 15.
Trump and Cruz plus one other wanna be who will still have the funds to plod on.

  7. Jonas T says:

Fields picks on Trump. The reality is that 2016 has the saddest group of presidential candidates in modern times. All the GOP candidates espouse extremist views that stigmatizes Mexicans and Muslims. The only difference about Trump is that he tells the truth without the hidden language. On the Democratic side, you have Socialist Sanders offering his voters pie-in-the-sky promises of taking money from businesses and “the rich” and handing it to the poor. It will never happen, even if he won. Or you have Hillary Clinton, who more than half the nation including many, many Democrats think is untruthful and have negative feelings about her. What a bunch! I’m thinking of staying home or writing in Donald Duck.

Really? Your GOP w left office with a 7.8% unemployment rate. Now under your Kenyan-born Muslim Black POTUS Obama the rate is now JUST 4.9%.

Your GOP loser w left office after 8 years with the DOW DOWN (26%). Now Obama’s DOW is up over 113.8%.

    Inflation is less than 1.55%

Gasoline prices are below $1.83 nation-wide.

    Hosing prices are slowly increasing.

ALL USA banks are most healthy. US car sales were 17,475,000 last year. With 18,500,000 expected in 2016.
    A Fraction of what? hahahahahhahahah

  11. Broward Voter says:

#10. As citizens today we do not have a fraction of the character, compassion or dedication to national purpose our parents and grandparents had. We are the first generation of Americans aiming to hand down a nation to our kids in worse shape than the one handed to us. Our news media has never been more distrusted by the reading public in fact despite the internet, and possibly because of it, we as a nation have never been more misinformed. So while the things you say are true, the point I made is most assuredly true. And to correct your misimpression, I am a democrat.

    FROM BUDDY:

Is the world really in worse shape or is it just different?

Everything was not as rosy as our memories would indicate. My parents came of age in the Depression when the unemployment rate was 25%. Sam was born during World War II when it still looked like Hitler and Japan might win.

The public school I went to in Broward — Thank God, I also attended 1000% better schools in New York City and Connecticut — was segregated. The black schools got our used books after they were all marked up and torn. Would any black parent or student believe times were better in the past and they don’t face a better future today?

My kids today enjoy a world that is much more diverse when they have the chance to learn from other cultures and peoples. My kids enjoy all the opportunities that technology brings. There are jobs available today that didn’t exist just 20 years ago. For the first time under Obama my kids are guaranteed health insurance so that they can switch jobs without fear of not being covered. My kids can be assured that at least I have the safety net of Medicare, which didn’t exist in the 1950s, to cushion my senior years (I believe Medicare is not enough by itself, but it helps.).

There are economic uncertainties in the world. When weren’t there economic uncertainties?

Yes, we are threatened by terrorism. But is it any worse than the threat of nuclear war hanging over much of my youth? I remember hiding under desks in drills. I remember troops at Gulfstream Park waiting to invade Cuba during the missile crisis.

Are there improvements that need to be made in our government and society? Of course.

Is there is whole class of people, ill-prepared by poor education or other factors, to benefit from our changing world? Yes, but did you ever read Charles Dickens? I know it is not much solice to those who can’t get good jobs, but displacement has always been a byproduct of progress.

    The only certainty is change.

Re: Mr Nevins’ reply to Broward. voter

    RIGHT ON!

Everyone forgets my grandmother n her sisters had to use their CHRISTIAN MAIDEN NAMES TO GET DECENT TESERVATIONS HERE IN FT LAUDERDALE AS LATE AS 1962 on the Beach.

They were here to visit a branch of our Marine business which you bet had my maternal uncle used is MOTHERS MAIDEN NAME TO USE A LOCAL GOLF OR YACHT CLUB IN SOUTH FLORID as late as 1975.

Life for Blacks unless they faked Spanish parentage was UNSPEAKABLE WELL AFTER THE 1954 DeSegration Decision in 1954.

Did I mention until the last 10 to 20 yesrs Homosexuals n Lesbians NOT ONLY HAD NO LEGAL RIGHTS BUT WERE CRIMINALS and NO GAY or Lesbian could be a lawyer or banned from most professions.

AND WOMEN LIKE MY LATE MOTHER, easily capable of being a lawyer BUT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE OF MALE CONTROL OF BOTH THE LAW N JOURNALISM with no Equal Rights for Women.

So except for White male Christians and theur housewives LIFE IS BETTER TODAY!!!!!

  14. IndependentMe says:

Had great conversation with Sam today. Wanted to know if the Florida Independent Party would support the Trump if he asked us. Have sent out poll to members across state and the response so far is mostly, “no way.”
While his message the pushes the right buttons, as does most of Bernie’s, and as I told Sam, as did the big eared Texan in 92, and while the Trump is maintaining big numbers and state wins, the reality of the man and what he would or wouldn’t do as POTUS is stated by most of my respondents as “scary,” “what, him with the finger on the button,”an egocentric narcissist,” et al, all but one comments in the same vein.
And so Sam, in our Independent and democratic manner which our poll indicates so far, the answer to your question is “probably not.”
Can anyone argue the ego and narcissism after watching last nights victory speech on “his property” owned by him with no mortgage or debts, as he bragged he owned in Chicago, many parts of Florida, NYC et al et al et al ad nauseum.
My Gawd, what a braggart. And then the display tables he showed to brag about his winery, his magazine and his steaks which he piled high for visual support. What a great infomercial that the stupid major networks showed free of charge. Gotta hand it to him, he knows how to make money and get others to contribute for maximum results, just like his university. Bet all the TV networks who showed him last night are kicking themselves in the butt for letting him make a fool of them with his crass commercialism at their expense (no ad revenue).
A real Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moment which resulted in big smiley faces for those of us in the know.

For college educated people things havent been better or frankly for more intelligent types.
You can make money in the stock market real estate or E-BAY with little capital needed.
Travel nationally n worldwide is cheap with discounted airfares and hotel rates.
Food n oil n all commodities are at periodic lows.
    Interest rates are historically low.
Wages excluding the bottom levels are high.
Taxes are low, certainly on business creators
Fax machines computers I-phones cellphones etc certainly google make intellectual professions so much easier n more effective
Blogs make it easy to expose corruption mismanagement craziness newspapers n magazines never had the time space to expose.
Sam Fields’ and Buddy Nevins’ children n grandchildren can do more legal or political research in an hour it used to take Messrs Fields n Nevins in their younger days!
The kids are intelligent n I assume hardworking but THEY DONT HAVE TO LIVE IN LAW LIBRARIES OR POUND THE PAVEMENT LIKE MESSRS FIELDS N NEVINS HAD TO DO!
