School Bonds Peddled At Demo & Special Pines Meetings

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Here is your opportunity to hear first hand Broward School Superintendent Robert Runcie’s pitch for the $800 million in new school bonds.

Runcie is scheduled to be the speaker at the Broward Party’s  monthly meeting next week.

Meanwhile, the School Board will met with the Pembroke Pines City Commission on Friday at 1 p.m. to discuss the bonds.  Pembroke Pines objects that the School Board doesn’t give it more construction money for the charter schools they built and operate.

Democratic Chair Mitch Ceasar explained his invite to Runcie: “There has been a great deal of interest about the school bonds and we are considering backing them.”

Runcie’s appearance at the Democratic Party is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 16 at Deicke Auditorium, 5701 Cypress Road, Plantation. The School Board and Pembroke Pines meeting is at the Charles Flanagan High School Media Center, 12800 Taft Street, at 1 p.m. Friday.

I’ve got two quotes that Democrats should remember while watching Runcie and the School Board spin.

“Trust, but verify,” an old Russian proverb Ronald Reagan used when discussing U. S.relations with the Soviet Union.

And “If your mother says she loves you, check it out.” That’s the old chestnut taught to thousands of journalists to remind them that good journalism requires a healthy dose of skepticism.

  1. Scam says:

Is there a list if organizations that have endorsed RunDMC and his gang for the bond? Why would DEC get involved? Is the Republican party getting asked too? Communist Party? Unions?

  2. Floridan says:

There’s a difference between skepticism and cynicism.

  3. Draft Buddy says:

I will support the bond effort if Buddy is allowed to chair and pick the committee that says how the money is spent. He is the only one that calls it what it is in this while bond business.

  4. count l f chodkiewicz chudzikiewicz says:

The democratic party includes large numbers of public school employees n retired school teachers in south east florida so it is not unreasonable for the county committee in any of the counties here to push for more public school funds just to be honest republican county committees worked to push for public taxpayer subsidies to be given to private n religious schools owned or
Run by republican party supporters especially in miami dade county. Would there
Be voucher programs without institutional ideological republican party support?

  5. Sad but true says:

I bet by Monday, Runcie sees this above post and asks Buddy to be on the Committee for oversight how the money is spent.

I just watched the movie Quizshow with Redford last night, there was a scene where Richard Goodwin was close to exposing the fraud of the gameshows and the gameshow producer said to Goodwin, “would you be interested in a panel show”

    FROM BUDDY:

The School Board and Superintendent Runcie doesn’t want real independent oversight of how the bond money is spend and if it is spent wisely. How can they be independent, when Runcie is picking the members?

Independence means oversight by the Inspector General. Or independence means someone other than Runcie or the School Board picking the members of any oversight committee.

Anything short of that is a charade.

  6. New TV show says:

I hear Runcie may offer Buddy his own public access show called “What’s happening Buddy” accompanied by the Buddy Nevins Dacers on Becon.

    FROM BUDDY:

The only show Runcie will offer me is a remake of “Six Feet Under” with me as a silent corpse.

  7. Nevins School of Jounalism and Blogging says:

I hear there will be an announcement of a reallocation of funds from the bond for a new curriculum for those BCS students interested in journalism and blogging inspired and authored by Buddy Nevins

  8. Buddy Nevins Dancers says:

Mary Ferting, Ali Waldman, Ana Gardiner, Nora Rupert and Shelia Alu?

    FROM BUDDY:

I guess you mean Mary Fertig, not Ferting.

Would Bob Norman do the voiceovers? In his breathless voice?

    FROM BUDDY:

I would say Bob sounds like long nights with whiskey and cigarettes, like a blonde’s husky voice in a Dashiell Hammett novel. His voice sounds like he has been around a lot of dark places. I say that as a compliment. I like his voice.

  10. IG is a Charade says:

Buddy – Is it that the IG has been so effective in Broward County that of purse his over site is needed for the school board? Municiple elected officials are running amuck! Just look at all the nonsense, especially in Miramar. Once I see results from an inspector general that his department if effective I am fine with an expansion. But not until then.

    FROM BUDDY:

Actually, the IG investigations have caused change in some cases. At least the IG is independent.

  11. Ha Ha Ha says:

@10 – See it for yourself then:

Like Kathy Turner? Is Bob the male version of Kathy Turner? Some whore red lipstick and it might be hard to tell the difference.
