My Plea To Finkelstein: Keep An Eye On Levey-Cohen

Did Mardi Anne Levey Cohen’s “comparison ad featuring an ugly black and white picture of her black opponent sway Tuesday’s election and push her over the top?
We will never know.
But Cohen’s ad was insensitive to blacks. It should have disqualified her from voters’ consideration.
If she ends up on the bench in criminal court, I hope Public Defender Howard Finkelstein keeps a close watch on her conduct. At the first sign of bias, Finkelstein needs to blow the whistle.
I know I can trust “Help Me” Howard to do this. He had a sign for F. J. McLawrence, Levey-Cohen’s opponent, on his front lawn.
McLawrence deserves another chance. I hope he is back for a re-run sometime in the future.

I got a copy of the mailer. There was nothing racist on there. 50% of the thousands of mailers I got have their opponent in Black and White, or hazed over, or worse. To imply racial connotations to this is a real stretch and not what anyone intended – if for no other reason than that they knew such a tactic would backfire.

If you think the mailer was bad, you should have listened to McLawrence on the radio. It changed my vote.

Along with most of yesterday’s results, I cannot believe Mardi Levey-Cohen won.
I agree with you Buddy, very insensitive to the black community.
Most of us voted for McLawrence believing what this county needed was another qualified, black judge. We have a disparate amount of minority representation on the bench here now.
God save us here in Florida AND especially in Broward.
Only in Florida can the perpetrator of the largest Medicare fraud in history be rewarded with a Governorship.
Rothstein is in jail and Scott is in the Governor’s mansion.

Yes. Put some of that top intelligence on it, Howard, much like you did for the last 30+ years as Satz refused to prosecute corrupt police officers or other “elite,” and suppressed and secreted exculpatory evidence. Thank god there are still a few in this county with integrity, such as Alu.
Don’t you feel any guilt in going on #7 and pretending to be upright, while you know that your assistant, Torres, perjured her testimony against your own client, Donald Baker, in order to defeat his right to habeas corpus and meaningful access to the courts, and you have done nothing, even after you assigned this near ‘non-attorney’, recent law-school grad to defend a felony case, even though you well knew that she was not competent, either in fact, or under your own assignment criteria, to handle a felony defense. I know; I know; the County under-funded your office, which lead to the assignment. But, why is she still employed by your office notwithstanding your knowledge of these unethical, illegal and despicable acts of treachery, which will reoccur under your watchful eye. Why haven’t you sought an indictment against Satz and Raft for the subornation of the Torres perjury? Or, did you know that she was going to lie under oath even before she took the stand? Buddy – Love your site. I always read it to keep up on politics within Broward. Today I noticed a response from a “John McNamara.” I just wanted to let some of your readers know (since many of them I work with as a firefighter and Union official) it is not the “John McNamara” that serves a the Union President for Metro-Broward Local 3080 and President of the Broward County council of Professional Fire Fighters (especially since the blog mentions Commissioner Sheila Alu who happens to be a Commissioner in a City that my Local represents). Otherwise – keep up the good work!
