Update: More Dirty Tricks In Sheriff’s Race?
BY BUDDY NEVINS
More dirty tricks in the sheriff’s race?
Democrats today began getting a call from the South Florida Tea Party endorsing Sheriff Al Lamberti.
The call, which purports to be from party chair Everett Dirksen Wilkinson, states that voters should be sure to “mark your absentee ballot for our great Republican Sheriff Al Lamberti. Sheriff Lamberti has the endorsement of Gov. Rick Scott, Congressman Alan West and the Broward Tea Party.” It ends by saying “Romney/Ryan and Lamberti is the Republican ticket” .
The Tea Party, West and Scott are anathemas in Democratic households. Calling Democrats and tying them to Lamberti can only hurt his efforts to get the votes of Ds, which he needs to win.
Smells like a dirty trick to me. You decide.
The Tea Party did this before. It endorsed Louis Granteed in the Democratic primary for sheriff and called Democratic voters.
See how that one worked out for Granteed.
Who would do such a thing? You have to look at who benefits?
Funny how the same guy who benefited from the calls that the Tea Party made in the primary will benefit from these calls – Scott Israel, the Democratic nominee.
Israel is the only one who comes out ahead if Democrats stick with him rather than split their ticket for Lamberti.
Again, you can judge for yourself whether Israel or one of his supporters is behind this.
XXXXX
Later Wednesday, Democrats received a second call, this one attacking Lamberti.
It tied Lamberti to a federal investigation into contract rigging and Ponzi scam artist Scott Rothstein. The call ended with advising Democrats to “mark” absentee ballots for Barack Obama, Bill Nelson and Scott Israel.
After writing the first post, I received the following e-mail from Everett Dirksen Wilkinson of the Tea Party. The picture of Lamberti and Alan West was included.
The bold faced type is in the original:
I am responding to your article “Update: More Dirty Tricks In Sheriff’s Race?”. The South Florida Tea Party is endorsing Sheriff Al Lamberti and making robo calls. After investigation, we have found him to be as right wing as Congressman Allen West and will work hard to keep crime down in Broward. This is just one of several local races that we plan on having an active role! We will take this country back.

Scott Isreal happens to be a Democrat and the Tea Party calls him a liberal. Buddy wrote a post about the Tea Party endorsing Granteed who did not reject the Tea Party endorsement and now the Tea Party is endorsing Al Lamberti. There is no news there. This should take nobody by surprise.
If Lamberti doesn’t want the Tea Party endorsment he should reject it publicly. Otherwise he should carry it with pride. None of this is not rocket science, the Tea Party endorses Republicans and people who agree with their agenda. None of this is news, they want Lamberti to win.

I got 2 calls from these terrorists, on my cell phone, which I did not give them permission to call me, which under the new FCC ruling is a 16,000 fine per call to a cell phone that has not been opted in, these scumbags can be fined allot of money, BTW Israel campaign, getting the #’s from the SOE is not permisson

Israel is scum. Anybody who plays dirty tricks to win the sheriff’s race, doesn’t belong in the office.
October 10th, 2012 at 4:51 pm
If Republican Sheriff Al Lamberti isn’t really a Tea Party guy, then why did he appear today … today!!! … on local Tea Party central: Joyce Kaufman’s radio show? The same Joyce Kaufman who called for “hanging” illegal aliens and form overthrowing congress “with bullets”? Lamberti can yell, scream, cry and lie … but the truth is that he really is close with the Tea Party.
And, as for the federal “do not call” list, it only applies to commercial calls. Unsolicited political and charity calls are not at all regulated by law.
October 10th, 2012 at 5:18 pm
I am very proud to say that the South Florida Tea Party is making calls and helping get out the vote for Sheriff Al Lamberti! Lamberti is conservative right winger like Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Allen West. Imagine if Lamberti started holding criminals in tents in the Glades!
October 10th, 2012 at 6:02 pm
The Tea Party members come from all parties (R,D,I). Lamberti should be proud of this endorsement! Israel isn’t even in his league! And I’m a D! The only one making it political is Israel. I know many of us who are voting for Lamberti.

Lamberti supported by the Tea Party with robocalls? Gotta pick the lesser of two evils in the Sheriff race and vote for Israel.

And, as for the federal “do not call” list, it only applies to commercial calls. Unsolicited political and charity calls are not at all regulated by law.
Check out the September 1 FCC rules re: Robo Calls and Polling and cellphones. They are going to be paying allot of 16,000.00 fines
October 10th, 2012 at 7:49 pm
The FTC “do not call” regulations do not apply to any political or poll calls. Even under the new rules. Here is a quote direct from the FTC website: “Political solicitations are not covered by the TSR at all, since they are not included in its definition of ‘telemarketing.'” The new rule you reference about $16,000 fines only apply — per the FTC website — to third parties making charity fundraising calls.

Prerecorded Voice Messages and Autodialed Calls to Cell Phones and Other Mobile Services. Prerecorded
voice messages and autodialed calls (including autodialed live calls, prerecorded or artificial voice messages, and text
messages) to cell phones and other mobile services such as paging systems are prohibited, subject to only two exceptions:
1) calls made for emergency purposes, and 2) calls made with the prior express consent of the called party.
6
This broad
prohibition covers prerecorded voice and autodialed political calls, including those sent by nonprofit organizations. Callers
contending that they have the prior express consent to make prerecorded voice or autodialed calls to cell phones or
other mobile service numbers should know that they have the burden of proof to show that they obtained such consent.
7
Line Seizure by Prerecorded Voice Messages and Autodialed Calls. Automatic telephone dialing systems that
deliver prerecorded voice messages must release the called party’s telephone line within five seconds of the time that
notification is transmitted to the system that the called party has hung up.
13
In addition, an automatic telephone dialing
system may not be used in a way that simultaneously engages two or more telephone lines of a multi-line business.
14
Senders of political prerecorded voice messages and autodialed calls are also reminded that failure to comply with the
relevant sections of the TCPA and corresponding rules may subject them to enforcement action, including monetary
forfeitures as high as $16,000 per violation for any person who does not hold a license or other authorization issued by
the Commission.
15
6 See 47 U.S.C. § 227(b)(1)(A)(iii); 47 C.F.R. § 64.1200(a)(1)(iii). These provisions also prohibit such calls to any telephone number assigned to
a paging service, specialized mobile radio service, or other radio common carrier service.
7 See, e.g., Rules and Regulations Implementing the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991, Declaratory Ruling, 23 FCC Rcd 559, 565, para. 10
(2008) (concluding that creditors and debt collectors claiming prior express consent to deliver prerecorded voice or autodialed calls to cell
phones are responsible for demonstrating such consent was granted); Rules and Regulations Implementing the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of
1991, Report and Order and Third Order on Reconsideration, 21 FCC Rcd 3787, 3812, para. 46 (2006) (with respect to junk faxes, concluding
that “[i]n the event a complaint is filed, the burden of proof rests on the sender to demonstrate that permission was given”).
8 Non-emergency prerecorded voice or autodialed calls to such destinations are permissible only with the prior express consent
I guess Ron G is going to get some heat for his incompetence

October 10th, 2012 at 10:58 pm
This is typical scumbag Scott Israel, Amy Rose, Ron Gunzberger, Ken Jenne, Ron Caccitore, Jeff Marano, Russ Deperna, Ray Hicks, Bill Trixton, Angello Castillo, Mark Trudell, and others.
Why doesnt Israel run on his own criminal and dead beat Dad record. O yeah!! he has nothing but a horrid police career record and has never accomplished anything, except what he and his buddies can lie about. Israe; and his friends lie about everything.
Is Israel the type of criminal anyone would want to be Sheriff. Israel has no money, no endorsements to speak of and no integrity. He will lie and lie to anyone and everyone and once he gets what he wants, he WILL SHIT all over everyone….. You know what you have now, but you will be sorry to be i na position what you would get with Israel…. a NIGHTMARE!!!! SAY ABSOLUTELY NO TO ISRAEL!!!!
October 10th, 2012 at 11:04 pm
To the Real Deal, you should ask Buddy to post the denouncement of the T Party endorsenent by Lou Granteed. It was another desperate Israel lie and fabricated dirty as usual tactic. You must live under a rock. Lou Granteed did a press release that was posted by Buddy saying he was not endorsed nor did he ever accept any type of T Party endorsement. Get a life…
October 11th, 2012 at 2:13 am
I think I know who sent out this robocall and it was not Scott Israel. Or Amy Rose. Tho Scott is not denouncing it like I told him to do when it happened to Granteed. I really got pissed at Scott for not denouncing those calls and the debacle with the Sun-Sentinel interview. I told him Democrats don’t do that. I think this is yet another shadowy figure who thinks they may have a better shot at some contracts with Scott rather than Al. This is why we need ethics reform. Not for getting comped for going to a $200 a ticket affair or accepting a bottle of water but rather tracking the money spent on campaigns and shining a light on them. And who gets contracts and represents those who get contracts.
October 11th, 2012 at 7:44 am
Lamberti and his goons are simply thugs. He thinks that BSO is his own little mafia. Lamberti is as corrupt as anyone I have ever known. He is also the most inept little man ever to buy the BSO.
If Lamberti somehow steals this election, Broward deserves him.
October 11th, 2012 at 8:19 am
@Deidra-You don’t have your facts. The guy was a vendor of his campaign. Had nothing to do with the Sheriff’s office. The Sheriff’s Office employees all get full backgrounds by law. The guy wasn’t an employee and nothing to do with the Sheriff’s Office. If Lamberti used his law enforcement systems to run a criminal check on a vendor, he would be malfeasant. You can ONLY use the FCIC/NCIC to run checks for reasons of criminal investigation or you can go to jail. Period, any cop. Did you run a background check on you dry cleaner, your car washer, your hairdresser? NO! Well, Lamberti (and many other more proiminent elected officials across the state used the same guy.
As far as Rothstein goes, Scott Israel took more in donations from him than Lamberti did, but neither of them knew he was a fraud at the time, no one did. So, in either of these cases, as it relates to Lamberti, please send me over your crystal ball that tells you what everyone in the community is hiding. I would really like to use it in my life and job too!
As a Democrat Woman in law enforcement (not@BSO), I fully support Lamberti & you should too!
October 11th, 2012 at 9:51 am
Sorry Mimi, but Lamberti took many times more in Rothstein contributions than did Israel. Israel got around $3,500 from some Rothstein-tied companies. Lamberti took $225,000 … and had his own executive officer David Benjamin drove Rothstein in a BSO to his waiting getaway jet when he was fleeing the country (and Benjamin still works for Lamberti at full salary!!!).

If it were a dirty trick and Lamberti does not support the Tea Party he had the opportunity to say so but he did not. That speaks volumes to me. He has lost my vote for good.
October 15th, 2012 at 8:49 am
You are correct. Granteed did reject his Tea Party endorsement. It escaped my attention. I never gave Granteed a chance to win anyway. He lost in a landslide but I do respect that he rejected the endorsement of a far right wing extremist group.
Lamberti has not done the same which signals he is proud of the Tea Party endorsement, shares their views and embraces their support.
You cannot have it both ways.
You accept or reject an endorsement on the basis of your own personal views and integrity. Tea Party supports racial profiling, anti-gay positions, they are against a women’s right to choose. They are an extremist conservative group.
Even without Lamberti’s rejection of the Tea Party endorsement, the fact that Tea Party liked both Lamberti and Granteed but did not like Scott Israel tells me everything I need to know about how to vote in this race.
November 8th, 2012 at 8:56 am
Scott Israel will be under a microscope from the time he is sworn in. COUNT ON IT.
