Making Kid’s Birthdays Special During Confinement

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Homes are filled with very sad children who can’t celebrate their birthdays with their friends.

No parties. No games. No silly birthday clowns.

But Coconut Creek Vice Mayor Josh Rydell announced a way to still make the birthdays special.

One very big caveat attached to Rydell’s idea: Children have to live in Coconut Creek.

Still maybe the idea will spread to other cities.

Parents who sign up can have police cars drive by their homes with sirens soundings and red lights blazing on their child’s special day.

Rydell might even show up.

“I look forward to seeing you with my megaphone on your child’s birthday,” Rydell said.

The idea is terrific. It also keeps Rydell’s name in front of the voters during a time when open campaigning is frowned upon.

Rydell is running for Broward State Attorney against a field of seven other Democrats, plus a Republican and an independent.

It’s always exciting to be bring forth a concept that can make people smile and bring a community together during the most trying times…

SERIOUSLY? When public officials SHOULD HAVE THEIR MINDS ON SAVING LIVES IN A PANDEMIC a candidate IS THINKING A KID NEEDS HIM N BELLS? Talk about MISPLACED PRIORITIES! And USE POLICE RESOURCES YET!

  4. Campaign ploy at taxpayer expense says:

Campaign ploy for sure at taxpayer expense
Wonderful for the children but certainly not altruistic on the guy running for SA
Wonder if the criminals are calling to find out when the police are busy doing this

  6. Elected's we are watching says:

I have to admit, when i first read this story I thought the same thing that it was a ploy…but than I saw the news last night. This guy is not looking for anything but helping his community. Criminals ARE NOT OUT…last week there were about 100 arrests COUNTYWIDE when this time last year there were over 1500. City officials need to step u- most we know ARE NOT. They are to busy getting mad at the Desantis….. I give this guy credit for thinking out of the box. If he was wearing a campaign shirt I would have thought otherwise. Good community minded people that are REAL…I will support….

  7. Count LF Chodkiewicz Chudzikiewicz says:

    5. 6. Dont sign their names to trying to alibi for A FOOLISH WASTE OF POLICE RESOURCED DURING A PANDEMIC.

  8. Get real says:

Josh is a joke. He has no experience. I received a bug postcard with his picture on almost half of it. Who paid for it. Did he? Talk about getting free advertising. Someone should file an ethics complaint.

  9. Get real says:
