Last Minute Election Tidbits: Lamberti & Others

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Sheriff Al Lamberti needs to get control of his campaign.

It is improper to mix sheriff’s department business with his re-election effort.

That’s apparently what some of his campaign workers were doing at early voting.

There is no excuse for handing out a recruitment flyer along with his campaign literature.

This is especially troubling since Lamberti’s opponents have accused the sheriff throughout this campaign of mixing the Broward Sheriff’s Office business and his re-election.

Here is the photo, supplied by an operative for challenger Scott Israel’s campaign (click on this and all photos to enlarge) and taken by Democratic activist Michael Rajner:

A previous post discussed Circuit Judge candidate Julio Gonzalez and his shady advertising. The link is here.

I didn’t want to leave the impression that his opponent, Laura Marie Watson, is an angel.

Wastson has loaned herself $30,000, but has yet to file a report on how he spent it.  If she is going to spend it, expect the report after the election.

This is all very legal.

But hiding your expenses until the last minute is one step away from hiding the source of your contributions.

Again, both Gonzalez and Watson are breaking no laws.

They are, however, pushing the edge of the envelope and is that what we deserve sitting on the bench?

Who says Republicans and Democrats can’t get along?

Here is Broward Republican Executive Committee Secretary Michael DeGruccio, in red shirt,  and Democratic activist Rajner at an early voting location.  The photo was supplied by a reader:

No need to worry about the Post Office. Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes’ office is accepting absentee ballots in person.

Unfortunately, Snipes has only two locations in Broward accepting the ballots.  Voters from many areas of the county will have some traveling to do.

An office spokeswoman told The Miami Herald Sunday that it will try to accommodate anyone who wants to vote in person. They can’t guarantee, however, that these offices can accommodate many voters.

Miami-Dade’s election supervisor was forced to stop in-person voting on Sunday when the office was mobbed by voters.

Here is Snipes latest news release distributed Sunday:

The SOE office in Lauderhill is horrible. First, it is not in a very desirable neighborhood. I would not allow my wife to travel there by herself. Next, it is hard to find, in the back of the shopping center, more like an alley than a proper government center. Third, the office is tiny. It can accommodate only one absentee voter at a time with maybe room for 4 or 5 other people waiting in the room. 4 or 5 skinny people. The rest must wait in the hall or outside.

  2. Plain Language says:

Al Lamberti has lost this race.

  3. just wondering says:

is al lamberti only 5’7″ tall? at least it looks that way in those goofy commercials running.
    if so napoleon complex?

  4. Swiss Miss says:

Lamberti truly must go. The woman in the photo handing out the literature appears to be Captain Robin Larson, the head of Lamberti’s “Professional Standards”Division, which includes Internal Affairs. This needs to be investigated and Lamberti and his command staff doing this need to be held accountable! This is truly disturbing.

  5. Ron Gunzburger says:

If that really is the head of BSO Internal Affairs in the photo, then Lamberti is directly implicated in this. That lady is in his BSO command staff.

  6. Arthur Conan Doyle says:

This is almost to be expected from a candidate who is in desperation mode. The challenger Scott Israel will become the next Sheriff of Broward County because of hard work, honest campaigning, a taveling the high road.

This “vote buying” by the Lamberti machine is despicable let alone illegal and the person in the photograph is indeed Captain Robin Larson of the BSO Internal Affairs Department.

In my opinion, Captain Larson should be removed from her position in the internal affairs bureau immediately this morning and placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into this criminal activity!

  7. Lamberti is garbage says:

Lamberti is a liar and a thief. That doesn’t look like Robin.

  8. Watching the race says:

Scott Israel taking the high road? Honest campaigning? Are you out of your minds?

Scott Israel has not had or said one positive thing in any of his campaign material.

Buddy. My question is this. Did you authenticate the photographs? Did you contact the persons in the photographs to ask what they are doing?

The photo obviously has been altered those big red arrows weren’t at the election line.

Capt Larson does not have any campaign material. Nor is she wearing a campaign shirt. There is a person with a campaign sign and the flyer wearing a campaign shirt.

The fact that this comes from an Israel supporter makes me really wonder.

Israel posts a fake you tube video purportedly from Lamberti so that his wife could respond. Israel has the “Tea Party” endorse Lamberti.

I am not a Lamberti guy. I thought the Dems could have chosen a better candidate to take back the office and so does the Dems. It’s why the only money Israel is getting is from PACs and ECOs and not from the Broward D machine.

In any election it is tough to beat the incumbent but there are good candidate the the D machine could have run ie just about any of the judicial candidates who worked at the SAO.

At any rate at least it’s almost over.

  9. Michael Rajner says:

Buddy, perhaps you should post the additional photo I sent you yesterday showing Larson wearing a Lamberti campaign t-shirt.

The disturbing this about Larson’s conduct was her and her partner approached differed between African Americans and Whites. When engaging with African Americans, she would start by saying something to the affect: Hi, I have 2 things for you. First, we (not distinguishing the difference between the campaign and the Sheriff’s office) are hiring and here is a flyer. We are also asking for you to re-elect Al Lamberti as our sheriff.

I walked along side the 4 African American women the entire time and they also agreed they found the encounter to be completely inappropriate.

By the way, the flyer was only hiring in the detention center.

Also, as I emailed you yesterday, on Thursday, at the same early voting location in Wilton Manors, the Sheriff’s command staff had to remove a campaign worker who clearly embarrassed the campaign. He was constantly interrupting campaigns and voters and at one point made voters feel threatened when he began filming me while I was speaking with voters. One voter was so upset and demanded the Lamberti campaign stop filming him. The campaign worker refused, so I let the voter know its his right to notify a guard of possible voter intimidation. The voter immediately notified a guard then the Wilton Manors Police Department became involved. The incident continued to escalate and the Lamberti campaign called in for backup and the same questionable conduct continued.

When Commander Michael Calderin, who is working on Lamberti’s campaign appeared on the scene, the campaign worker was witnessed flashing a BSO issued shield while telling the voters as to why they need to vote for Al Lamberti.

Calderin then immediately removed the campaign worker

It turned out that the campaign worker is a volunteer with BSO’s Hate Crimes Task Force.

  10. Undercover Angel says:

It is a stretch to think those photos are doctored. Buddy reported the facts as he discovered them. Lamberti truly believes he is above the law and it is not a Napoleon complex, it’s good old fashioned cronyism, nepotism and corruption. Let’s hope the people make the right choice.

  11. Sam The Sham says:

BSO employees ranked captain and above serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff. They are campaigning for him out of their own free will. It is these people who are afraid of Israel firing them as soon as he comes into office. They are backing the man of true integrity.

  12. Dear Rajner says:

Can you tell us under what legal authority did you have the right to to tell people not to hand out the YD’s blue card?

As a “Democrat” yourself, why would you have an objection to a card being handed out that encouraged people to vote for Democrats? Couldnt be because your pal Judy’s Tea Party/Republican running for Judge, Ousted Former Judge Julio Eduardo Gonzalez was left off the card was it (since he is a Republican)?

Since no one filed a legal challenge in Court or with the FEC about the Young Dem’s card, what authority did you have to claim it was illegal?

  13. Lady Yehenara says:

From last week’s dirty tricks with the slanderous videos against Scott Israel to today’s “improper” mix of sheriff’s dept. business with his re-election, Al Lamberti shows us he is not suitable to be our Sheriff.

  14. Bobby says:

Perhaps BSO really is hiring. Regardless of who is sheriff, BSO is actively recruiting. I think it is great that they offered that information. Voters are not morons, they will vote for the candidate they want. These odd characters taking photos and filming should have said something if they felt if was wrong. They hide because they are cowards. The hate is ugly, very ugly.

  15. Lady Yehenara says:

Before you vote, take a look at this message about Al Lamberti: http://youtu.be/2UVkufxSfDc

  16. John Dough says:

Lamberti is a crook. He hangs with felons. It is a violation of BSO regulations. He doesn’t care, he is BSO. That doesn’t sit well with the men and women who risk their lives everyday to protect and serve. Lamberti will be packing his bags in a few hours.
