Judge Geoff Cohen’s Re-Election Gets Widespread Support

Broward Circuit Judge Geoff Cohen’s re-election fundraiser is being hosted by one of the biggest groups of business, political and courthouse insiders I can remember.

I’ve never seen him at work, but I hear is that he deserves the support.

It helps, of course, that he is married to Property Appraiser Lori Parrish. 

There are so many notable folks that I can’t begin to name them all.

There is courthouse figures like former judge Catalina Avalos, bail bonds king Wayne Spath, and super lawyers George Allen, Fred Haddad, Johnny McCray Jr.  and Sheldon Schlesinger.  Even courthouse dissidents who have tried to shake up the powerstructure — lawyers Kevin Kulik, Norm Kent and JAABLOG editor Bill Gelin — are on the list.

Lobbyists such as Bill Laystrom, Bernie Friedman and Ron Book are there. Business types like real estate tycoon Austin Forman, builder Tony Mijares and tag agency owner Jason Strochak are too.

Included are political consultants Mike Ahearn, Dan Lewis, Barbara Miller and Judy Stern.

Florida House Democratic Leader Perry Thurston,  Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler and former Florida Senate President Jim Scott are among the pols listed.  And I can’t leave out Browardbeat.com’s guest columnist, Sam Fields.

    Geoff is a no nonsense judge who is tough but compassionate. He treats everyone with respect and that includes the defendants that appear before him. He’s a grandfather,works in his garden and rides a motorcycle. Never had that black robe fever that a lot of judges in Broward have been inflicted with. He’s quick to listen and slow to speak. To describe him is to say he’s just a nice guy. He’s got my vote.

    Jugde Cohen is a bitch and a terrible judge that hurts the victims by not listening to them. I know one victim that is homeless because she couldn’t get the charges dropped. If he was on fire I wouldn’t piss on him to put it out.
