Jim Scott’s Daughter Appointed Public Defender in Gainesville

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Former Broward commissioner and Florida State Sentate President Jim Scott’s daughter has been appointed public defender in North Florida.

Stacy Scott  is now the $150,077-a-year public defender running an office with 35 attorneys.

Gov. Charlie Crist, who Jim Scott served with in the state Senate, named Stacy Scott public defender for the Gainesville-based 8th Judicial Circuit this week.

She replaces C. Richard Parker, who was public defender since 1986 and who resigned to take a job as a consultant for a firm working in Afghanistan.

Stacy Scott was recommended for the job by Parker and former 8th Judicial Circuit State Attorney Rod Smith, the recent Lieutenant Governor Democratic nominee.

In addition to working at the public defender’s office since 1995, Stacy Scott is an adjunct professor and intern director for the public defense clinic at the University of Florida Levin College of Law.  She is also a trial team coach for law students.
Stacy received  her 1992 undergraduate degree and her 1995 law degree UF.

She most recently was county courts supervsior for the public defender’s Alachua County office.

The 8th Judicial Circuit: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Gilchrist, Levy and Union counties.

Nice article. Stacy is the first female Public Defender in the 8th circuit. It’s great she makes all women proud. A trailblazer and a native of Broward County. I know her dad is proud and her mom is smiling down on her.
