Influential Blog: Insiders Believe Kristin Jacobs Will Win House Race
BY BUDDY NEVINS
Political insiders believe County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs is going to win her race for Florida House, according to one of the state’s best-read political blogs.
Kristin Jacobs: Seen As The Winner
Blogger Peter Schorsch believes Jacobs’ perceived frontrunner status is why the fundraising has been lackluster for her opponent — former state Rep. Steve Perman.
“Sometimes the Tallahassee money is right and sometimes it is wrong – but it certainly tends to flock to the perceived winner and in this case, the safe money seems to be moving to Kristin (Jacobs),” wrote Schorsch on his popular SaintPetersblog.com today.
SaintPetersblog, which is edited by blogger and consultant Schorsch, was named one of the best political sites in the nation by the Washington Post.
Schorsch turned his attention to the House District 96 race between Perman and Jacobs in northwest Broward.
“Perman’s campaign seems to have become a one-trick pony with the vast majority of his donations (around 75%) coming from his own industry group: chiropractors. Jacob’s on the other hand has not only done well among her Broward crowd, but seems to have successfully courted a wide array of Tallahassee folks. Her donor base is not just deep; it is wide,” the blog continues.
“Now, at least in looking at his donor report, he (Perman) seems to be yesterday’s news – except, that is, among his own chiropractor pals.”
Ouch!

Steve Perman is a nice enough guy, but he’s a one term representative who is on his 5th run. He was beaten as AN INCUMBENT in 2012 and now he’s running in Broward with less money.
The only people who seem to think that Steve have a real shot this time are the permanent activists who live at Democratic Clubs. 90% of the voters in this race will never meet either candidate, but they will see their current County Commissioner who has represented them for a decade running against someone they’ve never heard of.
But I’m glad that Saint Petersblog has picked up on this blatantly obvious fact. Good find Buddy.

Kristin Jacobs will win because she is a better candidate — she has represented most of the people in Dist. 96 as a county commissioner and has done a good job.

I love the pimple faced kid(Bray) that she had run as the write in canidate(whatever). Then Jacobs states “I don’t know nothin about it”(wait),but then next thing we know a photo is shown w/ her and him. Tooo funny…..

Interesting. This is one of two races that Lori Parrish is going “all in” on this year to prove she is still influential and politically relevant in Broward. The other race is Parrish’s effort to defeat County Commissioner Barbara Sharief. (History lesson: this Parrish fight goes back to them voting against increasing her big budget increase last year.) Parrish’s minions are telling everyone that she will get both
If Jacobs and Sharief both win, it will prove the days of Parrish’s political power/clout are relegated to the fading memories of days gone by. But, if they both lose, then Parrish will show she still has muscle.
As you say, Buddy: stay tuned.

Let’s look at the bright side. Jacobs would do less harm as a freshman representative in a majority Republican house than she has done as a county commissioner and mayor.

@Sam the Sham
you are correct and should she win that’ll be some consolation.
And then she’ll really get a taste of the rough and tumble world of politics!

Dear Hmm: My “big” budget increase last year was 1.5%.

Can’t agree with Lori on half of her judicial picks. Here are my research-based calls on Broward’s “low-information” races:
17th Circuit Judicial seats
8th – Frantz “Jahra” McLawrence
16th – Andrea Gundersen
17th – Stacey Schulman
27th – Steven Feren
County Court
18th – Ellen Feld
27th – Ian Richards
Broward Soil & Water Conservation District, Dist. 4 – Fred Segal

For Attorney General – George Sheldon.

Lori – I concur. They have my votes!
