If You Run For State Attorney, You Should Know The Law! Candidate Fined Twice By Election Dept.

BY BUDDY NEVINS

If you are seeking the job of chief law enforcement officer of Broward County you should know the law.

You should also know how to read a calendar.

State Attorney candidate Teresa Williams has been fined twice since May for failing to file her campaign financial forms on time. A former prosecutor who has her own law practice, Williams is running against veteran State Attorney Mike Satz.

Teresa Williams

Since both are Democrats and the only candidates, the race for State Attorney will be decided in the August 30th Democratic primary.

Satz has raised $182,000 and kicked in another $55,000 of his own money. Williams has raised $40,500, including $5,000 of her own and $100 from Tim Canova, the Hollywood law professor challenging state Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Weston.

Gee, Buddy, do you also think a candidate’s fines for not returning library materials on time are newsworthy?

A much better topic would be the Canova vs. Wasserman-Schultz race. I think Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is on her way out; Tim Canova will be taking her place.

  2. Count LF Chodkiewicz Chudzikiewicz says:

Maybe Mr Sam the Sham Mr Ha Ha Ha Counsellor Fields Miss Greenbarg or ANYBODY WHY WE HAVE CANDIDATES WITH REAL ESTATE LICENCES LAW DEGREES and/or PUBLIC OFFICES WHO CANNOT FILL OUT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL FORMS AND FILE THEM ON TIME?

  3. Ana Gomez-Mallada says:

Is that the worst thing that can be said about a very veteran prosecutor (and defense attorney) who DOES know he law and, additionally, has a sense of decency and fairness?

  4. State Attorney and Judge Signs says:

Buddy we have all seen the Lawn Signs placed illegally all over town by the people that should know the law i.e Sitting Judges and State Attorney.

Which is worse the late filing or the hundreds of lawns littering our streets?

  5. Just-Us says:

If you are seeking the job of chief law enforcement officer of Broward County you should know the law.

It’s not knowing the law, it is applying it as the fungible commodity that it is. As State Attorney you protect your political fiefdom i.e. politicians, law enforcement which is a strong voter base. All others receive additional charge of “Resist w/o violence” for invoking their right to remain silent.

Williams is a weak candidate with tunnel vision.

  6. Sam The Sham says:

The last 5 of Buddy’s columns are about Dems behaving badly. I think you all are expecting too much from a Democrat politician.

    FROM BUDDY:

That is because Democrats are arguable the only ones that counts in Broward….sadly. The local Republican Party can influence the state and national elections. They have zero power in the county.

  7. Knows for Sure says:

Slow news day Buddy? Come on!

I wholeheartedly agree with #1 on the Debbie Wasserman Shultz race.

Word on the streets is that she’s (thankfully)on the way out!Even some of her former supporters are jumping ship. http://www.timcanova.com

  8. HillaryIn2016And2020 says:

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz EARNED the endorsement of the Sun Sentinel.

Her opponent actually wasted so much money on TV ads JUST complaining that she will not debate him.

I still know NOTHING about him!

    What a complete loser.

I have no idea where he stands on the issues that effect me!

  9. FYI re Teresa Williams Fined says:

Buddy, You reported on Friday that Theresa Williams has been fined twice since May for failing to file her campaign financial forms on time as required by law.
    .
FYI … Today, August 8th, Teresa Williams was fined again by the Florida Division of Elections. This is Williams’ third separate violation of elections law and fine in the last four months.

  10. Ha Ha Ha says:

@8 – You “know NOTHING about” Canova but that doesn’t stop you from immediately rushing to judgement based only on your ignorance. Visit http://timcanova.com & learn!!

  11. Gurlee says:

THIS is what you choose to report on in regard to the race for State Attorney??

Her opponent, Mike Satz, the current state attorney, has the highest number of cases where innocent people have been locked up for decades, has ignored issues with the DNA lab and so now its shut down, has been accused of having two systems of justice by the Public Defender, and loses the one and only case that he has ever filed against a cop for an on duty shooting and you think Teresa Williams filing a report late is news?

Filing late never ruined anyone’s life!

How much does Mike Satz’ campaign pay you?

If this is all you’ve got, she’s got my vote.

  12. HillaryIn2016And2020 says:

I stated that watching Canova’s useless TV ads, JUST complaining that DSW will not debate him, informed me NOTHING about Canova’s ideas on all the important issues in this campaign…
