Gov. Rick Scott To Sign Holocaust Bill In Broward

BY BUDDY NEVINS

When Gov. Rick Scott has a bill to sign that authorizes a new Holocaust Memorial at the Capitol in Tallahassee, where does he go to sign it?

Broward County, roughly 450 miles away from where the memorial will eventually be built.

The reason is obvious:  There are a lot of Jews in Broward County.  A lot more than in Tallahassee.

Another reason is the measure was sponsored by state Sens. Eleanor Sobel, a hometown Democrat from Hollywood, and state Rep. Jared Moskowitz, a Democrat from the Broward town of Coral Springs.

Enacting Holocaust Memorial legislation is not exactly controversial or tackling the major issues facing the state.  But it is important for Sobel and Moskowitz’s hard-core supporters in the Jewish community.  It also can do Sobel no harm in Hollywood, where she is running for mayor now that she is facing term limits after a long career in the Legislature.

Scott signs the bill today, no doubt surrounded by Democrats like Sobel, at the Jewish Federation of Broward County campus in Davie at 3 p.m. The public is invited, but plan to arrive early.

Here is the news release:

  1. SAM FIELDS says:

Rick Scott signed a bill related to the Holocaust.

Knowing Scott’s politics,I need to read the bill to find out if it was for or against the Holocaust.

  2. Count LF Chodkiewicz Chudzikiewicz says:

Counsellor Fields conveniently ignores that the Obama Administration and liberal Jewish organizations since 1991 have ripped off German Jewish Holocaust victims n now their heirs to fund socia programs for Jews who had nothing to do with Germany Jewry. The day the non German Jews got a majority of staff n board positions the JCC became a thug operation.
Fields ignores the HITLER-STALIN pact where the Communists gave the green light to slaughter 6 Million Jews.
I bet Governor Scott’s parents didnt support the HITLER-STALLIN PACT – can Comrade Fields say the same?

People in glass houses shouldnt throw stones.

Usually I defend Counsellor Fields but if Comrade Fields takes pot shots he should be called out.

  3. Freddie says:

Sam Fields is pathetic. This is a bipartisan bill that honors those kill in the Holocaust and he can only offer partisan criticism. Get over it, Sam.
