Gov. Agrees With Obama: Florida Improving

BY BUDDY NEVINS

I’m starting to wonder whose team Republican Gov. Rick Scott is on.

Scott has been pouring out a stream of news releases proclaiming Florida is on the road to recovery.

Isn’t that President Barack Obama’s argument?

Scott, of course, would not credit Obama for any of the improvements.  He would say his own policies are bringing the state back from the brink.

Regardless of the reason, both Scott and Obama agree: Florida is recovering.

Maybe Scott is on his own side, since his re-election is just two years away.  Or  maybe the governor is just on Florida’s side.

Here are some of Scott’s most recent news releases and you decide:

FLORIDA EMPLOYERS FEELING MORE OPTIMISTIC AND EXPECTED TO INCREASE HIRING RATE

National Manpower Outlook Survey confirms the positive economic strides being made in Florida that encourage business growth

TALLAHASSEE— Florida employers are predicted to increase their hiring rates in the fourth quarter of 2012, according to a recent national Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, more than double the expectations compared to the same period last year.

“This survey confirms that employers are experiencing positive gains in their business and feeling more optimistic, which leads to more hiring and more jobs,” said Governor Rick Scott. “We have more work to do, but we are continuing to make Florida the No.1 business destination in the world by creating an environment that encourages job creation.”

Some of the highlights from the survey found that from October to December, 18 percent of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees. According to Manpower’s calculations, this yields a Net Employment Outlook of 10 percent, which is up from 4 percent a year ago.

For the coming quarter, job prospects appear best in Construction, Durable Goods Manufacturing, Transportation & Utilities, Wholesale & Retail Trade, Financial Activities, Professional & Business Services, Education & Health Services, Leisure & Hospitality, Other Services and Government. Employers in Non-Durable Goods Manufacturing and Information plan to reduce staffing levels.

This continues a trend of positive indicators in the state’s improving economy.

  • Florida has created 156,800 private sector jobs since December 2010, and has experienced positive annual job growth for 26 consecutive months.
  • The state’s job growth month-to-month has been positive for 12 of the last 15 months. Florida job postings increased sharply in September 2012 compared to the previous September by 35,277 (an increase of 15.1 percent), for a total of 268,575 openings (seasonally adjusted).
  • The state’s 24 Regional Workforce Boards reported a record of more than 52,983 Floridians placed in jobs during the month. Florida’s unemployment rate declined to 8.7 percent for the month of September with 3,500 new private sector jobs created.
  • The September 2012 rate was 1.7 percentage points lower than the year-ago rate of 10.4 percent.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity combines the state’s economic, workforce and community development efforts. This new approach helps expedite economic development projects to fuel job creation in competitive communities. As long as the rates keep dropping I don’t care who takes credit.

  2. christine says:

I think the bigger and more significant question is, “What type of jobs?” Jobs at Wawa and Dunkin Donuts, or engineers, software developers, architechts, business analysts, and cilvil engineers?

  3. City Activist Robert walsh says:

Gov.Scott is the proplem. Everyone one of his plans been struck down in the Courts. This is a Gov. that bought his way to the Gov.mansion. Need we forget what was the astrnomical fines he paid for basiccly ripping Medicare/medicaid etc. millions upon millions rick scott had to pay up or basiccly go to jail. Now we have these Jim crow laws going after convicted felons putting every obstackle in front of us. I got news Gov. we are not taking it anymore. We are not going to the backthebus etc. i have heard form many convicted felons , and the harassmnet they are facing. See harass me and i will harass you back ten-fold. i mean really. This is the only state inthe Union that discrimantes convicted felons(its none of your businees, we did our time, paid our restitution etc. yet we are disinfranchised because we committed a felonly in my case over ten years ago? All this shady bs-people not getting theie absentee ballots, people going into the Elections Off, throwing like 20 ballots in the box-w/ no record of who is delievering the ballots , to no way in verifying if indeed that the person who sighned off on the ballot even fille dit out. Yes they are suppoose to verify who is dropping off ballots they don’t(w/ my own eyes i witnessed this). Then you have the Diane Carroll of tBroward County , . Then you have that beast down there Fred Bellis making over 90 grand(can’t miss him) Snipes is right hand man, who thinks i’m bullying him for basiccly calling him fat(grow up,lose weight)but he can call me th eresident ,taxpayer who is picking up the tab for hi s alary a liarr . Bring it on Bellis. Although thanks for your rant to my lawyer(“he clled me fat-he hurt my feelings”-too bad-call me a liar again)Stop paymnet on the check-you pay him Bellis-since your sooo hurt.

  4. Real Deal says:

If you want to look at this intelligently, you have to look at the kind of new jobs created and the pay they offer. You have to look at changes to median income. To suggest that a systems analyst who is forced to take a job bagging groceries at a WalMart is now “employed” so we should be happy is actually not something worth celebrating.

Scratch and sniff economic analysis rarely satisfies.

  5. tell the truth says:

I agree with Real Deal. Florida was never known for high paying highly skilled jobs, so the addition of ‘new’ jobs and ‘more’ jobs is a misnomer. Also more of these jobs are less than 40 hours a week with no benefits and savings to the employer. scott wants to be re-elected 2 years from now so he will spin whatever he has to.

  6. Robert Walsh Jr. says:

Hey Robert Walsh Activist? or convicted felon numerous times. How many times were you sent to prison and numerous felonies and yet you have the gall to try and make yourself a tough guy? All I will say is Ha Ha. The difference is he is allowed to vote and has class Get a life you idiot

  7. City Activist Robert Walsh says:

Ok what fat slob is it this time??. Notice how they hide behind these alias’ but you accuse me of being a “tough guy”. I have not been to prison several times. Fo r your info . Besides again this is a perfect example ofthese damn “Jim crow” laws. What you are better than me ,becaus e you can vote & evidently you say I can’t. What buisiness is any of this yours?. You don’t pay my bills, just as I don’t pay your grocery bill.. I mean Buddy there is a descrepancy w/ my clemency status. I will take care of it. If it means taking this all the way to the State Supreme ct, so be it.Some of you jst don’t get it.I am going nowhere (the district should decide this not some moose from Snipes is off). The proplem is some of you that our City employees or County-keep your opinions, assessments, observations to your self. You have no right to call a resident aliar(Mr.Bellis). Who the hell do some of you think you are. In the private sector if you talked to someone like I have been treated(elections off) yo u would be fired right on the spot. Some of you municapal, county employees -do your job. Mind your own business. I mean everything from Snipes is office, to Charlotte Rodtrom ast. Scott Wyman telling people I am out of the race. Again shut up, and do your job, before yo u don’t have one. Same thing w/ husband ast. sue Smith, again mind you own business. You ar e there to do a job. You don’t ask personal questions to the resident. You take their messages etc, thats it. I could give a rat ass if you like me. Is it boredom, nothing to do? What? I mean trycalling the Elections off. To no avail no one answers. Try that in th eprivate sector-Oh I didn’t answer the lines becaus e I wa s busy. I wouldn’t mind Buddy but some of these useless idiots(who would hire you-if you didn’t brown nose and kiss ass or if your parents etc, christianed some poltician kid.) Again some of these morons would be sweeping floors some where(& to boot we ar e paying them like almost 100g). Again who would hire you? . Thank you Mr.Bellis for your little rant to my now former lawyerbecause of your actions and his assine behavoir(again this is a county employee)let Bellis pay you.. After all i’m so vile, despicable etc, well than bubba so is my money. He gets nothing. Fred Bellis , you called me, you stated I was lying about such ,certain documents which your off, did produce, he calls me” a liar” no I will call you anything I want-don’t like it-then don’t call a resident who is paying your salary a liar.Snipes isn’t paying you- WE are. That is the proplem w/ some of these elected officals staff. People we the residents pay you, even though you do your little ass kissing- I welcome some of you to file a complaint . I woul d love to “substanchiate” all this to the OIG, to the State Att.Off. I’m sorry Buddy service @ that Elections office is disgusting. And Mr.Bellis my mothers dr. secretary pulled the same bs-“he called me names” Why ? caus e you both our asssholes.-I’ll call that tramp & your fat ass anything I want. Respect given when respect earned. Enough of you Jr, Bellis and my former att. You like hookers your on every street corner. Enough…..

Idiot you committed numerous felony crimes and had your rights taken away from you which was done by law not by Fred Bellis so get over it oh and try not to get drunk over this comments. 11. City activist Robert Walsh says:

First of al Att.Bruce Udolf does not represent me. Your facts are also wrong the fire alarm was dropped. Al thi sother bs, where misdeamoners. Again how is any of that your business. Tell Fred Bellis eat another doenut. You hide behind your alias’ why? but accuse me of being a tough guy. Bring it on.. The fire alarm which wa sdropped was pulled @ the Larive bldg. I was caretaker to a patient who’s lover was high on meth and locked me out. So I pulled the alarm becaus e I was in fear of my patients safety. Again charges dropped. next. I mean really why is this such a concern to you? And If I have to challenge thi s all th eway to the State Supreme Ct-so be it. Remmber sure was I arrested sure, but there is 2 parts to this first the arrest then th e conviction-there was no conviction. I think you are a coward, most defintely and get your facts straight.( Let me guess you are broke, fat, have no life an d spend all day looking up my arrest record-help yourself-have fun)

  12. Robert Walsh Jr. says:

I assure you I am not fat and unlike you I have a life I can say I am definitely not fat or ugly like you in your arrest photo and happy to have had not constantly getting arrested and getting drunk like you and trust me you may think you are a tough guy but I assure you I would easily kick your stupid ass and its a shame that you are jealous of Fred Bellis who all of his life has been a class act and a gentleman which unlike you is not a jerk off. In short quit your stupid bitching and get a life loser
