Sam Fields On Mormons, Drug Wars, Jewish Santeria and Pothead Candy

BY SAM FIELDS

“Do we want a candidate who is a good, moral person, or do we want a candidate who is a born-again follower of the Lord Jesus Christ?”

Thus spake Dr. Robert Jeffress, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, introducing Gov. Rick Perry at the Value Voters Convention.

Making it clear which side of the fence he stood on, Jeffress went on to remind all who would listen that it is the official position of the Southern Baptist Church that Mormonism (Read Mitt Romeny) is a cult.

Jeffress is not alone.  Take Bryan Fisher.

Next to Fisher, Jeffress is the ACLU.  Fisher, also a Value Voters guy, wants you to know that The First Amendment religious protections apply only to Christians.

Jews, Mormons, Muslims, Hindus, atheists, etc., need not apply.

The choice is clear.  Are you a “good moral person, or…a born-again follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

It was honest of Jeffress to admit you can’t be both.

The Real Message For Today

For six hours last week Ken Burns gave us his latest entertaining history lesson.  This one was about the rise and fall of Prohibition.

Burns makes clear that growing violence more than anything else turned the country against the Noble Experiment.

As all of us know, the worst day was St Valentine’s Day 1929 when Al Capone’s henchmen whacked seven members of the rival gangland figure GeorgeBugs” Moran gang.

You know what followers of the Drug Wars call a day with seven machine gunning homicides: “A holiday truce”.

A report from the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime reported that last year 468,000 were killed in drug wars. A third in Africa, a third in the Americas and the rest spread around the world.

A young male in Central America has a 1 in 50 chance or being murdered over drugs.

In just the last couple of weeks 80 were killed in the Mexican state of Veracruz.

Etcetera, Etcetera, etcetera.

The latest Gallup Poll now says that 50% of Americans favor legalizing pot.

Jewish Santeria?

Most South Floridians are used to the meshugas (craziness) involving Santeria and chickens.

Quite often you will find our feathered friends lying dead in front of the Dade criminal courthouse. Following incantations and slaughter, they have been placed there to assure a Not Guilty for some drug dealer.

Less known is that, the day before Yom Kippur, Orthodox Jews also worship through chickens.  They have concluded that if you swing a live chicken around your head it will transfer your sins to poultry.  It will “befoul” your fowl.

I wonder?  Afterwards, is it o.k. to use it for chicken soup?

 One Man’s Freedom…

The 1960’s comedian Jackie Vernon used claim that his best pickup line at the beach was to ask some girl help him look for his lost Medal of Honor.

I don’t know if it got him laid. But this week The Supreme Court will decide if that pick up line and wearing an unearned medal could also get you arrested. It will consider the constitutionality of The Stolen Valor Act which criminalizes wearing military medals you have not won.

In the same vein, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz got his colleagues to condemn the sale of offensive Halloween candy. The resolution they passed unanimously asked retailers to ban the offensive sweet.

This subversive tasty treat, known as “pothead candy”, is shaped like marijuana leaves and comes with the message of  legalize written on the packaging.

Sounds like an update of the candy cigarettes we used to buy.

I have never been so embarrassed to be a born again Christian as the day that Jeffress tried to make sense of the nonsense within our faith that condemns other Christian faiths to cult status. You would think that the Pastor of the “LARGEST BAPTIST CHURCH” in America would have a good handle on the beliefs of Mormanism, and how it compares to Pauline Christianity. Obviously not.

Or maybe he was just using his pulpit to endorse one political candidate over another, using the relevant thread and connection between Gov. Perry’s “born again Christian” status as a positively differentiating factor.

That approach overlooks the fact that jails, whore houses and half-way houses are filled with the saved and the atheist alike. It simply disregards the fact that junkies and jerks call themselves Christians and Jews as well. That argument goes nowhere. It was shallow and stupid to think that it would. How embarrassing!

  2. GOP Proud says:

Its good to see that Florida Congressional candidate Karen Harrington who is running for Congressional Seat 20 has joined the Gay Republicans as Treasurer of the organization.

Hopefully, she will support openly gay Broward County Court Judge Robert Lee in his re-election campaign in 2012.

We hope to see both Judge Lee and Karen Harrington at next year’s Gay Pride parade in Wilton Manors.

Should Sam be looking for a new job instead of babbling on and on and on and on? His law firm went under last week.

  4. The Pendulum Swings says:

That’s all that Sam does is babble. Ask how many crooked Deputies he has represented. He seems to enjoy Domestic Violence. Definately not for the victim.

The Good Lord will definately give him what he deserves!!!
