Dania Beach’s Grace Gets Endorsements

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Dania Beach Commission candidate Bobbie H. Grace has has gotten a sweet endorsement.

Monroe Udell, founder of Jaxson’s Ice Cream Parlor and Restaurant, has given her his support.  Udell and Jaxson’s have been a fixture in Dania Beach for generations, since when the town still had farms.

Does that endorsement come with a one of Jaxson’s yummy jumbo sundaes?   When I was a student at South Broward High, I loaded up on chocolate ice cream topped with hot fudge, marshmallow sauce and whipped cream.

Grace also has snared an early endorsement from the Metro Broward Professional Firefighters Local 3080 Dania Beach; Broward County Council of Professional Firefighters and the American Federation of State, Municipal Employees, Local 3535.

Grace, 64, is retired from the telephone company.  She is the city’s former mayor and a long-time Broward political figure.

Her opponent is Carolyn Jones, 62, a retired public schools counselor of special needs students and wife of County Commissioner Al Jones.

The seat became vacant when Al Jones was appointed to the county commission late last year.

An interesting aside:  The news releases for Grace are prepared by Lisa Duke, wife of Commissioner Walter Duke.  Walter Duke and Dania each Vice Mayor “Mac McElylea also endorsed Grace.

What does that say about the Jones?

The special election is April 13.

  1. Expand The Airport Already says:

The county had not treated Dania residents properly with the airport expansion planning. There is more they should have done to make those folk happy. Ultimately the entire county needs the airport expansion. It will bring more jobs and revenue into our area. No one city can hold that up for an entire county. That’s also wrong.

Carolyn Jones is being endorsed by the Mayor Anne Castro and City Commissioner Robert Anton. Now what does that say about Bobby Grace?
