Commissioner’s Pathetic Thinly-Veiled Racism

BY BUDDY NEVINS

At the very least, the voters of Cooper City should be ashamed.

After all, they elected John Sims.

John Sims

Sims is responsible for the following distasteful and disrespectful shot at our president. It is dripping with thinly-veiled anti-black and anti-Hispanic racism.

He posted it on Facebook and it was slipped to me by a source:

Commissioner John SimsNovember 30

Just wanted to let you know…today I received my 2013 Social Security Stimulus Package. It contained two tomato seeds, cornbread mix, two discount coupons to KFC, an ‘Obama Hope & Change’ bumper sticker, a prayer rug, a machine to blow smoke up my ass and a ‘Blame it on Bush’ poster for the front yard. The directions were in Spanish. Yours should arrive soon.

I find it scary that 21 people “liked” the comment.  But then again, millions are brain-washed daily into believing Fox News is real news.

Sims is a prime example of too many Republicans.

He’s an angry old white man who refuses to recognize that the world has changed.

Read that slap at Spanish speakers at the end of his comment and you’ll understand why the GOP has a problem getting the votes of Hispanics.

And blacks?  Forget about it. What black would join a party that embraces the likes of Sims.

He continues to get invitations to speak at Republican events although he was embroiled in a similar incident of bigotry four years ago.

A picture of then-Mayor Debbie Eisinger appeared in a blog he owned with a Hitler mustache. Eisinger, a Jew, called it a hate crime, but nothing was done to Sims.

Democratic boss Mitch Ceasar was shown the recent comment. He had this to say:

“I would hope as a community we have made progress in racial relations and human relations.  I find it unfortunate that an elected official would be so insensitive to publish remarks that are both radical and incredibly inappropriate.”

With these comments, Sims demonstrated that he is an embarrassment to Cooper City.

And one more thing.

Hey, John.

The election is over.  Obama won….and he won BIG in Broward County.

And you, John Sims, are part of the past.

This reeks of racism. It is disgusting to the core and any resident of Cooper City that voted for this joker should have the right to take his or her vote back. This is what moves our country backwards. As a white man born in the south, I have embraced the diversity of the country and I am thankful daily that my dad told me that I should not move back home as the discrimination is disgusting and here it is in an elected official. Shameful.

  2. Chaz Stevens, Genius says:

Ask John about his job at a certain engineering firm, formerly in Boca, now in Pompano Beach (on Military Trail)… A certain family owned enterprise bought out by a large multinational.

How he got shown the door… How he was always surfing the web (aka naughty bits)… How he was goofing off all day long.

How he was blisteringly fucking incompetent.

How he was intensely disliked by his coworkers… How they put up with his lying. His cheating… His deception.

A close personal friend of mine, who worked with Sims, told me, “I’ve never met a bigger liar in all of my days. One thing is sure… If Simms was talking, he was lying.”

How he can’t find another job.

Yeah John. I know your whole deal…

We both know I was under a cone of silence that’s no longer applicable.

Want me to tell the world? Or will you?

  3. Charles says:

You know Buddy, that’s obnoxious and puerile.

“Sims is a prime example of too many Republicans.”

There are people in both parties who make vile disgusting remarks (need I remind you of Harry Reid and Joe Bidens comments of Barack Obama circa 2008)

This is not a party thing its a generational thing. John Sims represents himself and his constituents, no more. Do not use the comments of one asshole and few of his FB followers to denigrate a party of millions. All this serves is to poison the well of discourse, you should be ashamed Buddy, this is some Sam Fieldery.

    FROM BUDDY:

You are absolutely correct that both parties have their embarrassments. However, the Republican Party recently has ben plagued with candidates and office holders who are very comfortable making anti-woman, anti-gay, anti-black and especially anti Hispanic comments. How about this from 2011?

DALLAS — Lauro Garza, head of Somos Republicans, the largest organization of Latino conservatives in Texas, has quit the Republican Party because of what he described as the anti-Latino rhetoric of GOP leaders.

“There is no place for Latinos in the Republican Party”, Garza, who had identified as a Republican for 30 years, said in Spanish.

or this from Jan. 6 2012 New York Times discussing how Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich all played the racial card during the primary campaign:

Racial politics play well for Republicans. Santorum and Paul finished second and third in Iowa. Time will tell if Gingrich rebounds. Playing to racial anxiety and fear isn’t a fluke; it’s a strategy that energizes the Republican base.

Kevin Phillips, who popularized the right’s “Southern Strategy,” was quoted in The New York Times Magazine in May 1970 as saying that “the more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans.”

To deny that the success of the Republicans in recent years have been built on the politics of pitting whites against blacks and Hispanics is to deny history. I don’t think I even have to comment on the GOP’s problem with women and gays.

  4. Chaz Stevens, Genius says:

    And don’t forget…

Simms, when caught red handed posting that Nazi symbols, blamed his son for the transgression…

Yeah, my son hacked my account, created that hateful image, and posted it online.

    What a cowardly little bastard.

I despise you John. Very few people in life I can say that about… But you deserve all the fresh hell this life can muster up and throw your way.

  5. Chaz Stevens, Genius says:

PS Sims worked the Dolphins games as an NFL employee…

Not sure if he still does… but guess what fucker?

I’m gonna reach out and share with them your racist thoughts.

  6. Timmy Stevens Ain't No Genius says:

    Timmy:
Sims is a public figure. Therefore, you can basically trash him with lies and then you can hide behind the Constitution.
HOWEVER, when the public figure can show actual malice on the part of the speaker, the speaker becomes respondsible for his defamatory remarks.
Let me remind you about your above post in re: Msssr. Sims:
“I despise you John. Very few people in life I can say that about… But you deserve all the fresh hell this life can muster up and throw your way.”
Now, all bets are off. You have shown “actual malice”.
You have a big mouth. You appear to be wrong more than you are right.
I think that you will slip up.
If I were Sims, I would have an attorney on speed dial.

  7. What Would Reagan Do? says:

Geez, Buddy. You take a cheap shot at Fox News and then you quote the New York Times as a legitimate news source? The New York Times!! I want what you’re smoking.

  8. christine says:

Sad. You have Sims a Republican and poster #2, #4 and#5 from opposite ends of the political spectrum, yet both with so much hate in their blood, you’d think they were cut from the same cloth.

  9. Jay says:

@christine I think the hate comes from Mr Sims as he clearly prefers a lilly white world. He needs to step down or at the least Cooper City needs a recall. The man (or should I say coward) is clearly a bigot.

  10. ExCompassionate Conservative says:

“PS Sims worked the Dolphins games as an NFL employee”

Can you eleborate on this with more details?

  11. Ghost of McLovin says:

yes buddy all republicans are racist, elitist and fox news is the only network interested in ratings. generalize much? ps i am a young white republican that loves kfc. and black women

    FROM BUDDY:

Of course not. Only those like Sims…and there are so many of them swaying primaries that it is costing the GOP elections.

  12. Jack Tayport says:

Don’t forget that John Sims was heavily involved with “Shak” Dhanji who was running for Sheriff and amazing how much money was collected by Sims for a phoney lottery created by Dhanji and now Dhanji has fled the country and I am positive that scumbag Sims is still in contact with him. To me Sims is a low life crook

  13. Ed Foley says:

So now you’re People’s Revolutionary Colonel of the Orwellian Inner Party Buddy Nevins. Shame on you. Let people think and say what they like. The voters can decide.

  14. Buddy Nevins says:

    FROM BUDDY:

Mr. Jones distributed this e-mail to city officials and the media in response to Browardbeat.com’s article:

    Mayor and Commissioners,

On November 30, 2012, Commissioner Sims posted the below quoted
statement on his public Facebook page. His statement is demeaning and
racist towards African Americans, and Hispanics. The references to
discount coupons to KFC, cornbread, and a prayer rug are obviously
intended to stoke negative racial stereotypes towards African
Americans and Muslims. His reference to the directions being in
Spanish, is obviously intended to portray Hispanics as dependent on
    the Social Security system.

As a longtime Cooper City resident who has volunteered as a Cooper
City Optimist Sports Coach and at Cooper City Elementary School, I
find his actions to be disgusting, intolerant, and reprehensible. I
call upon each of you to publicly denounce John Sims and request his
resignation from the Cooper City Commission.

    Commissioner John Sims

Just wanted to let you know…today I received my 2013 Social Security
Stimulus Package. It contained two tomato seeds, cornbread mix, two

    James Jones
    Cooper City, FL

  15. Chaz Stevens, Genius says:

    @Buddy…

    The funny thing…

If Sims looses his paying gig (i.e. money from the Government), he’ll need to take up other forms of govn’t assistance.

I’ve taken the liberty to forward a copy of this blog to the NFL VP of Public Relations.

  16. ExCompassionate Conservative says:

Cooper City? Great local issue for a local resident? Cheap AM radio hosts Steve Kane who calls Cooper City home and Brian Craig should invite him on to the show and have their kids “friend” him for damage control on facebook. Do it in February for Black History month guys.

Brian Craig may be too busy working overtime to overturn ObamaCare so his wife can enjoy having “preconditions” which health insurers love to use to deny coverage.

Mr. Stevens. What is Mr Sims current relationship to the NFL?

  17. The real James Jones says:

    http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2004-01-06/news/0401060160_1_police-officer-jones-s-wife-hollywood-police

Is this the same James Jones, the one who was boinking Louie Granteed’s wife? The racist who hates GLBT OFFICERS?

    http://www.change.org/petitions/tell-hollywood-florida-police-to-address-police-department-homophobia

    FROM BUDDY:

    I have no idea.

  18. Jay says:

@Ed Foley someone nees to let the public know when this happens. Clearly the people of Cooper City did not know about this racist clown prior to now. Buddy, keep up the good work!

  19. Sims must Resign says:

I see the racist (soon to be ex-commissioner) John Sims is attempting to attack Mr. Jones for calling him out on his hateful racist actions. It’s funny how the guilty always resort to ad-hominem attacks when they get caught.

If it is the same James Jones, records indicate he was cleared of the allegation Mr Simms linked to above.

  20. You folks are sick says:

Don’t you folks have anything better to do? You should be ashamed. First Amendment rights rule…

  21. Ed Foley says:

@Jay – Maybe we can get kids to report their parents as well. Oh! Wait… that’s already happening. The answer to speech you don’t like is more speech not enforced silence.

  22. Jay says:

Finally the Sun Sentinel has picked up the story. Hopefully they will help root out the racism here. Cooper City do what is right.

  23. Dont tred on me says:

Buddy.. Jones was a big supporter of Granteed and Scott Israel. He is obviously a idiot for backing Israel over Al Lamberti. Hollywood should be very afraid for having a dumb liberal for a chief.. .

  24. Chaz Stevens, Genius says:

    Hey Buddy.

First Bob Norman takes my Atkins-Grad story and packages it up as his own.

Then he takes your Sims story and runs with it.

Is this what qualifies for Bob Norman Investigates these days?

  25. ExCompassionate Conservative says:

“Don’t you folks have anything better to do? You should be ashamed. First Amendment rights rule…”

Actually , with the election over we don’t have anything to do.

Every Black, Hispanic and Muslim American who has any contact with Cooper City should be very concerned. Elected officials are paid to represent all citizens fairly and this casts a shadow over every interchange he has had or will have with employees, residents or visitors to Cooper City.

Taxpayers face a potential gusher of legal bills if his name pops up in any disputes.

I would not enjoy working my ass off to pay taxes to have this mess on the payroll and besmirch my town.

I do commend Mr. Simms on his honesty. At one time I thought that minorities were exaggerating their emotions about older white guys who smile at you in public but harbor nastiness in private.

  26. Spectator says:

Congradulations Buddy! on breaking the story first . All media outlets have picked it up now and are running with it. Thanks, for exposing the poor taste in judgement.

    FROM BUDDY:

    You’re welcome.

  27. Kevin says:

Well, all of your people defending Commissioner Sims might be right that he’s not a racist.

But he sure is a dumb-shit for posting something like that.

  28. Kevin says:

err…. sorry for the spelling errors. Stupid Mac autocorrect!

Man, I wish I could blame autocorrect for all life’s problems!

  29. Kevin says:

Also, as someone who grew up in South Carolina and loves southern food, I think it would be completely AWESOME if the President of the United States sent me tomatoes, cornbread, and fried chicken. A quart of buttermilk and I’d vote Democratic for the rest if my life!

(See, even Sims’ racism is not very bright).

  30. no kidding says:

Amazing how the right to free speech kicks a few in the teeth.
Even if electeds have these opinions, putting them out there is a disaster to come. Although he was being sarcastic.

I saw a Detroit councilwoman on th news that said in essense, we voted for obama, now bring home the bacon, thats how its done, quid pro quo. Was that sarcasism?
    Not racist but maybe worse.

And as always Buddy has the scoop before anyone in news biz in S FL.

  31. Watchdog says:

In 1991, John Sims was going through a bitter divorce and was charged with domestic battery after an altercation with his PREGNANT wife in which he wrestled her to the ground and pulled off her wedding ring.

For some people, abusive behavior is in their genes.

the best part is that mike good left a comment…two peas in a pod. What is he doing these days since he was canned from Hallandale Beach?

  33. Chaz Stevens, Genius says:

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Cooper City Commissioner John Sims once assaulted a pregnant woman.

Sims was arrested and plead guilty to Aggravated Battery for assaulting a pregnant woman and was sentenced to two years of probation. See Miami Dade 11th Circuit Court Criminal Case No.: 91-5433.

Sims was found to be in violation of the terms of his probation and was then ordered to serve an additional two years of probation. See Miami-Dade Circuit Court Case Criminal Case No.: 91-5433.

Court determined that Sims failed to pay child support in the amount of $25,647.10, and legal fees in the amount of $15,882.79. See Miami-Dade 11th Circuit Court, Case No. 91-36013FC24.

Sims threatened a BSO Deputy while a Code Enforcement Officer was trying to serve two code violations on a neighbor. See Miami Herald Article (1/25/07).

Mr. Sims has been attending the Domesic Intervention Program since June, 1991. He continues to justify his violent actions and blames his wife for his abusive behavior. Mr. Sims has a great deal of hostility towards his wife and the justice system. He has been unable to work through this anger so as to make progress in therapy. He has maintained a very negative and sarcastic attitupe throughout his treatment.

Therefore, it is our professional opinion that Mr. Sims has reached maximum potential in therapy at this time. However, he still remains at high risk for becoming physically violent again in the future. The protection and well-being of his wife and new baby should be the utmost priority of the Court at this tine.

Hollywood Officer Is Reassigned Amid Allegations Of Abuse

January 6, 2004|By Vicky Agnew Staff Writer

A high-ranking Hollywood police officer has been temporarily reassigned while the department investigates allegations he physically abused his wife, Hollywood police said.

Maj. James P. Jones, 40, a 20-year decorated veteran of the department, was served with a temporary restraining order against domestic violence at his Cooper City home on New Year’s Eve. He was not arrested or charged.

Jones’s wife, Tara Lane Jones, applied for the order Dec. 30.
On Monday, James Jones called the allegations false and added “it will all be worked out in court. We’re getting divorced. … It’s a marital issue, and we have a small son involved whom we both love very much.”

According to his personnel file, Jones, who led the community policing division, has more than 30 commendations and no prior discipline. He has no criminal history, according to county and state records.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office, which dispatches for Cooper City police, has no record of any calls to the home, spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said.

Jones said he has been reassigned to administrative duty in Police Chief James Scarberry’s office while internal affairs investigates.

Tara Jones could not be reached for comment. Her father, Lane Bradford, said his daughter was not injured and is caring for the couple’s 21-month-old son elsewhere.

The restraining order requires James Jones to leave the home, surrender any firearms to the Sheriff’s Office and have no contact with his wife for 15 days. A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14, according to court documents.

The day the order was served, James Jones notified Assistant Hollywood Police Chief Chad Wagner. Wagner went to Jones’ home and took possession of his department-issued H&K .45-caliber automatic, in compliance with department policy, spokesman Capt. Tony Rode said.
