Broward Anti-Abortion Leader Needs To Be Honest

“Every man’s death diminishes me, for I am part of mankind
                                                     John Donne

“I have never killed anyone.  But that does not mean that I haven’t occasionally enjoyed an obituary
                                                     Clarence Darrow

Like most of us, I have to go with Darrow on this one.

That‘s why I find  particularly disingenuous the reaction of  Tewannah Aman –the Executive Director of Broward Right to Life–to the murder of Dr. George Tiller.

Tiller was the OBY-GYN who was murdered in Kansas by a Right of Lifer. Tiller was one of the few doctors doing third-term abortions.  It was undisputed that over his career he did over 10,000 abortions of all kinds.

It’s hard to swallow that Aman really found Tiller’s death “abominable.  Here are her comments in The Miami Herald.

If I truly believed that aborting a three-week fetus was the equivalent of killing a three-year old child, why would I mourn the death of Tiller any more than the death of Ted Bundy?  After all, viewed as a serial killer, Tiller makes Bundy look like a Quaker.

Here’s what’s really going on.  To maintain public support and minimize the political blowback, the mainstream anti-choice crowd has to feign outrage.  Privately, they are partying like its New Year’s Eve.

To believe otherwise is to conclude that they hold that all lives are equal and that all deaths equally tragic.  If that is what Aman believes, she has much in common with a sociopath who also can’t value one life over another.

They both think killing anyone is the same as killing everyone. The difference is that one is for killing them all. The other is for killing no one.

No moral scale.  Only absolutism.

It is fair to ask Aman: Do you regret the death of the 19 hijackers as much as their 3,000 victims?

I believe that I stand with the vast majority when, depending on the circumstances, I am able to value one life over another.  Some need to live and some, as I have argued in self defense to a jury, “just needed killin‘.

Aman just needs to be honest.

  1. Mister Courthouse says:

    Sam,
Does the Bar know you are advocating killing?

  2. Retroactive Abortion says:

I like the concept of retroactive abortion. Study them for a few years first and then decide whether you want to abort or not.

  3. Sam Fields says:

In my family the question of “when does life begin” was resolved at the time you got accepted to law school or medical school

  4. Mister Courthouse says:

Too bad Sam Fields’ mother didn’t abort him.

  5. My Dad says:

My dad had an interesting concept of abortion. He told all us kids, that he and mom brought us into this world and so they reserved the right to take us out of it. And he meant it. We all got along with dad but his word was law in his house. And his rules applied so long as any of us lived there. After that, we were on our own. I have my own family now and have borrowed dad’s concept. So far so good.

  6. The Long Black Robe (ret.) says:

The overriding concept should be respect for the law. It is as easy as that.
The law said what George Tiller was doing was legal. The law states that killing Mr. Tiller, and anyone else, is illegal.
The law today says that abortion in most cases is legal. If people don’t like that, change the law through their representatives.
Sam’s argument that “some people need killing” might work on a gullible jurors, but it is not the law and should not be allowed. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands and kill people, for whatever reason, unless it is for self-defense.

  7. Dear My Dad says:

Does that mean your rules apply to your spouse, if you are married? Would she listen to you if you told her not to have an abortion or to have an abortion? Or is that a woman’s right to chose?

  8. Sam Fields says:

    Dear Mr. outhouse
You are such a clever wordsmith

  9. Dishonest and derisive says:

Have you ever met or spoken to Tewannah? Did you call her for comments? And why would you so deviantly editor her article- she condemmed the killing. The killer is far more deranged, than he is anti-abortion, or Christian [he can’t understand our faith if he’d shoot a non threatening man.] You simply add poison, to a vitriolic debate, that was begun by a bastardized court decision, in what should have been a state-by-state legislative debate.

  10. JohnPaulLife says:

I’m with John Donne on this one, all the way. The murder of Tiller was a heinous crime that pro-lifers, true to their moral convictions, have uniformly condemned. Mr. Fields, without evidence or arguments, gives us his conjecture that pro-lifers, like left-wing attorney and ACLU friend, Clarence Darrow, take secret delight in the death of an enemy. We don’t.

Fields is offering a very dangerous ethic, telling us, in effect, that some lives are more worth living than others. That’s an irrational idea with a very bad pedigree. Come on, Sam. You don’t believe that, do you?

  11. Anne says:

I feel sorry for Sam Fields. His words betray a very frustated, cynical frame of mind.
    Yes, we all are equal.
Yes, it is sad when anyone of us is killed; no matter the age or status of the person. 1 day old or 90 years, born or unborn.
I would invite Fields to work alongside Tewannah Aman for a couple of weeks. He may just discover that pro-lifers are just as human as he is…maybe a little more loving. The least he would discover is to respect another person’s opinion; and, maybe, that truly we are all equal, no matter who we are, friend or foe. But, I guess, Fields would be too proud to dare to approach Tewannah Aman with an open mind. It’s so much easier to trash.

  12. Pamela Scannell says:

I find it interesting that Mr. Fields believes he is a mind reader. I mean, a skill like that could make you rich. Mr. Fields, what am I thinking right now?? Oh! you don”t know? Listen, am I mourning Dr. Tiller’s death? No! What I do find appalling is that some zealot and obviously unstable person committed murder, an act against God’s law and US law. Thou shall not kill. Period! Judgement is in the hands of the Lord. This guy only makes us pro-lifer’s look bad, because pro-choice folks are alwasy looking for a way to condemn us. What I find FASCINATING!! is that this Dr. Tiller actually had the stones to attend church, this goes to show that he was a sociopath, commiting those hideous acts and then pretending he was a moral person, holy cow! He obviously never cracked open his Bible. Here’s what abortion is all about, greed, greed, greed! We all need to remember that God sees our hearts, including mine and is the FINAL judge, not man! PS- Before I became a Christian, I endured an abortion and have suffered the emotional consequences ever since, so I know from where I speak.

  13. Seann O'Brien says:

So let me get this straight- you’re upset that Ms. Aman is not celebrating the unlawful killing of this man. Don’t you think it’s possible that she is, like she says she is, pro-life. I don’t what to put words in her mouth (like you have), but I’m guessing that she thinks there should be laws to lock butchers like Tiller up. That’s normally what we do in this country when someone kills an innocent.

  14. Rabjoe says:

The Bible says Sam,that the Lord takes no delight in the death of the evil, He would rather have him repent and do what is RIGHT in the Lord’s eyes! You see Sammy, in the spiritual sense, George Tiller (like yourself),is already dead in your sin. “The wages of sin is death!” However, instead of bashing some advocate who stands up for God’s TRUTH and standards, you can only ridicule? “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”1 Jn.1:9 Repent!!!

  15. Davina Jacobs says:

    Dear Sam,

It is best said in God’s word (I pray this helps your understanding of where Tewannah is coming from and what God has to say about this. I share this in Love with the hope the eyes of your understanding be enlightened) May The Lord Bless you and keep you!

Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. 17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 Therefore “If you enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.

Sam, It’s by His grace I know true Love and it is my hope that you receive Him; to know what He has done out of His love for you!

  16. My Dad says:

I think we all know that the law resolves the question as to the rights of women to choose whether to carry a pregnancy to full term or terminate it within the first three months. Those rights apply to wives as well. What no law can do is remove the impact this decision has on one’s conscience and if you speak to any woman who has had an abortion, and thereafter had children, only the most cold of them feel no guilt about their choice. Relief? Yes. But lots of guilt.

Let’s be clear here. There are certain legal forms of homicide and abortion is one of them. But there’s a big difference between having an abortion and blowing your nose. An abortion kills life, it may be legal but let’s not sugar coat the facts. The thing to do is work very hard not to every be in such a position, to avoid at all cost the prospect of an unwanted pregnancy, because the price in terms of guilt that most women facing that choice have stays with them for life. Especially if they later have other children.

Men can never quite understand what life really means in the same way that a woman can because only a woman can get pregnant. Every woman knows that any pregnancy involves life and that terminating that pregnancy is terminating life. I support choice. I just don’t want anyone to kid themselves about what they’re actually doing. I don’t like the cop out. Abortion is a legalized form of homicide and it has to be looked at in that context.

  17. Defender of the Faith says:

As able ministers of the New Testament, the laws of God are written in our hearts. We do not condemn, but we judge. What Tiller did was murder, just like the man that killed him committed murder. We see a biblical truth: “be not deceived; God is not mocked:for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap”. Murder reaps murder.
As Tiller passed from this life into eternity, he has also experienced another biblical truth, that “it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God”. For our God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who comes in the name of Yeshua Adonai, “is a consuming fire”.
One of the 6 things that God hates, 7 are an abomination to Him, is the shedding of innocent blood. Tiller wasn’t innocent. The babies were. However, the murder of Tiller removes any chance he might have had to repent and turn to the Living God, since the shedding of the innoncent blood of Messiah Yeshua, grants us forgiveness.
    This is the tragedy.

  18. Sam Fields says:

    Dear Davina Jacobs,
Now that your God has changed his mind and erased the old ”eye for an eye” did you ask yourself why he changed the rules?

Next week could he go back the old rules?

I have read your prattle but like most of your kind you are unable to explain how all this would work in the real world?

    Are you a pacifist?

For example if you saw the movie Valkarie were you happy that Hitler– also one of God’s lil’ children–did not get killed.

I would love to see your answer but only if you put a “Yes”, “No” or “I don’t know” in the answer. If you are only going to ramble on an avoid taking a stand save it.

  19. Davina Jacobs says:

    Hello Sam:

God does not change nor does He contradict Himself. The Scripture referenced said it is His to judge. It is not for me to avenge myself or others. He gives us clear word about how we are to conduct ourselves and what a Relief! I praise The Lord I am a new creation! I’m not consumed with anger, fear, anxiety and getting back at every person that has done wrong to me, you see I realized one day I could not cast a single stone beacuse I was not nor would I ever be righteous. I found one who was is and always will be and since I’ve called on His name He has not let me down! Now I’m consumed with the Love of Jesus Christ. I just want to share it, in the hope that those who are where I was- consumed with pain, anger, fear (and acting out on it) might know it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s our choice!

Though I did not see that movie- to answer your question… We are all Gods creation not all His children John 1:12-13

and by His grace I do not take joy in the death of anyone, ESPECIALLY those that have not accepted Him as Lord and Savior.

    What do you believe Sam?

May God Bless you with an understanding that you desperately need Jesus as your Lord and Savoir. He wont force you, it’s up to you to choose. I just pray you do!

    Davina Jacobs

  20. Kay Oh! says:

Fields, I know Tewannah and you could not be more wrong. Those of us who are pro-life do not celebrate the death of an abortionist. We do not work for their demise, we pray for them to have a change of heart.

  21. Kay Oh! says:

The abortion laws as they exist now allow abortion through the entire pregnancy. The “first three months” is incorrect. Dr. Tiller was one of only a few Drs. who performed (legal) late-term abortions. He could abort up to the time of birth. One form of late-term abortion actually involves the child descending into the birth canal, then being killed by means I won’t describe in detail in this forum.
