Bogdanoff Running For State Senate; House Seat Open

BY BUDDY NEVINS

It’s official state Rep. Ellyn Bogdanoff is running for state Senate.

Ellyn Bogdanoff

Bogdanoff, R-Fort Lauderdale, is due to file her paper work Tuesday to enter the race for Senate District 25, which stretches from Northeast Broward through much of eastern Palm Beach County.

The senate seat is held by Senate President Jeff Atwater.

Atwater announced Tuesday he was running for Florida Chief Financial Officer.  He must give up his Senate post under Florida’s Resign-to-Run law.

Her move will leave a Broward-based state House District 91 open. A scramble is expected for the northeast Broward seat, which leans Republican.

Among those who are being discussed to replace Bogdanoff  are Chris Chiari, a Democrat who lost two races for the seat in the past; Republican Mayor Oliver Parker of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, who lost an election to Bogdanoff in 2004 and Commissioner Chip LaMarca of Lighthouse Point, who is the Broward Republican chairman.

    She’s a winner.

  2. Why? says:

She has no answers to our problems. She and her gang have no platform to speak of, none that they adhere to in any helpful way to society, only this constant personality disorder that they call “conservatism.” Why in the world would we vote for someone that supports this horrible status quo statewide? What we need is fresh thinkers with new approaches that will transform the State into a prosperous place again.

  3. Ann says:

Because she did such a good job of managing the changes to the sales tax exemptions this year???

When will we stop rewarding incompetence in Tallahassee????

  4. Beth The Bounty Hunter says:

It’s time for Bogdanoff to go….I’ve heard Christian Chiari speak on numerous occasions and he knows what he is talking about. Somebody must have been scared of him in the election because his signs kept getting slashed and cut out. go Ellen and let’s get Chris!!!!

  5. Time Out says:

I believe that district is largely in Palm Beach County. Ellyn will have an uphill battle for any votes which makes it good for her that two Palm candidates are running. They could divide the Palm vote with her, while she wins the bulk of the Broward vote in the primary. The general election is another matter. She will have to run on a ticket with the ultra conservative McCollum.

  6. Rob PBG, FL says:

Senator Ellyn Bogdanoff a liberal in republicans clothing. This week bogdanoff and her left leaning antigun lobbyists gutted a bill (SB234) that would have allowed Floridians the same gun rights as 47 other states, it seems Bogdanoff has joined forces with Obama in striping citizens of their rights. The good news, Bogdanoff is up for reelection in 2012, so if you are in Broward, or Palm Beach County you can cast your vote against Obama’s new BFF in Florida.
