Billionaire Tom Steyer To Open Broward Field Office For Progressives

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Billionaire hedge fund manager Tom Steyer wants to change America, mainly by dumping President Donald Trump and the Republican congressional majority.

To this end, Steyer formed NextGen America to push for combating climate change and furthering immigrant rights, affordable health care and a wish list of other goals sought by progressives.

Tom Steyer

Steyer has pledged to spend $30 million to pump up the youth vote in this year’s election in key states.  He and his wife Kathryn have spent $16 million so far in the 2018 election cycle.

On Tuesday (May 1), Steyer is scheduled to bring his battle for progressive views to Fort Lauderdale.  He will help a like-minded group For Our Future Florida open a Broward field office. He will be joined by Democratic State Reps. Jared Moskowitz of Coral Springs and Joseph Geller of Aventura.

In addition to the Broward office, FOFF is opening other offices across the state.

The group’s game plan for Florida in the coming elections is to increase the turnout among anti-Republican and anti-Trump voters. Steyer (and his money) will be there to help.

For Our Future Florida explains its goals a little differently on its web page, eschewing the straight political spin:

“Our mission is to mobilize and empower people and community-based organizations to drive real change and advance our shared agenda – this is community organizing to win!

“Fundamental to our core are progressive values, like creating shared economic prosperity, building strong public schools, addressing climate change, and supporting racial justice. What sets us apart in this hyper-political circus-like atmosphere is our ability to listen to and talk with people, not at people, and work with people, not around people.”

Make no mistake.  This effort is designed to enable Democrats win by increasing the turnout in places like D-rich Broward.

Founded in 2016, For Our Florida Future is supported by many unions and union-connected organizations. The Broward office is at 1001 NW 62 St., Unit 414, Fort Lauderdale, where the Steyer event is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Isn’t this the same guy who promised to spend 100m last cycle in FL to start a conversation about climate change. What happened to that promise?

    I vote with Tom Steyer.
