Big Broward Increase In Early Voting, Absentees
BY BUDDY NEVINS
Early and absentee balloting in Broward is easily surpassing the vote four years ago.
As of Saturday, there were 109,271 early votes and 111,406 absentees returned. Those figures will increase since Sunday’s early voting totals were not immediately available and absentee ballots can be received until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Election Day.
In 2010, there were roughly 85,800 early votes and over 75,000 absentee cast.
Who does this year’s increased voting benefit? That’s anybody’s guess.
Democrat Charlie Crist and Republican Gov. Rick Scott were both working hard to encourage their supporters to vote before Election Day. Also, it is not known if the voting on Election Day will be decreased by the hike in early and absentee voting.

I received a letter from Senator Marco Rubio, with postage for my absentee ballot envelope, asking me to vote for only one candidate, George Moraitis. I gladly did.
I did not however vote for Chip LaMarca. Even though the Tea Party supports him I would never vote for someone who is a train wreck in their personal finances and life. Why would I trust him with my tax dollars? Between his troubles with the law and his foreclosures I just couldn’t bring myself to vote for him.
Our party needs to come up with better candidates than this that represent our values.

Hi Buddy, thanks for posting. Broward voted in large numbers on Sunday. There were 19,802 voters Sunday and 240,479 early and absentee voters overall, with more absentees coming in. Also, I believe we are going to have a large turnout on Tuesday as there is a lot of enthusiasm and excitement about this election. Have a great evening.

Final early voting numbers: 19,802 people voted on Sunday (which is by far the largest daily early voting total of all), for a final Grand Total of 129,073 early votes. So 2014’s Broward early voting total is just over 150% of the 2010 number.

Early voting is not without hazards. While exercising my right, I couldn’t help but note and then endure the B.O. or fart odor caused by the adjacent voter.I mentioned the stench to a pole worker who to my horror responded in a totally dismissive fashion and otherwise took no remedial action. I later learned that the offensive voter is certainly old enough to know better as he or she lives in a nearby senior citizen condominium complex in Tamarac. For this reason no thank you I will never again be duped to early vote and neither should you.

Terry, no surprise that mentioning your concern to a “pole” worker had no effect. Surely he or she was not even working in the polling place…

The Democrats like to think they own Broward County but there are still plenty of Republicans to keep them in check. I guarantee that a large percentage of the increased voting was Republicans. Anyone that votes for Crist has no moral compass or intellectual reasoning. How can you support someone who will saying anything to get elected and switch affiliations twice to try and make that happen? Scott may not be perfect, but Crist is an absolute NO vote.
