Skip Campbell Wins; Will He Now Run For Senate?
BY BUDDY NEVINS
Walter “Skip” Campbell is back.
Skip Campbell in the state Senate
The former state Senator easily won his race for mayor of Coral Springs on Tuesday.
Now the question is whether Campbell will stay around Coral Springs more than two years.
The word is widespread in political circles, largely spread by Campbell’s own team, that he will use the mayor’s seat as a catapult to run for his old Senate seat in 2016.
The northwest Broward seat is now occupied by state Sen. Jeremey Ring, D-Parkland, who is termed out in two years.
Several well-known pols were involved in the background of the race Campbell won against loser Tom Powers.
Sheriff Scott Israel backed Campbell.
County Commissioner Stacy Ritter backed Powers. Oooops.
Campbell’s political consultant was Barbara Miller, who has returned in 2014 as a force in Broward politics in a big, big way.

Can’t we just let Skip and his team enjoy a hard-earned win over Tea Party loyalist Tom Powers? Give it a rest.

Campbell bought this race. He never did anything for the city and now will be running for state Senate. Where do I sign up to work for another candidate?

It is a great day for Coral Springs.

This is a huge win for Skip. In my opinion Tom Powers turned out to be a much stronger candidate then people first thought. And by the way Buddy, Barbara Miller wasn’t involved on Skips campaign at all. Skips campaign manager/consultant was Matt Gotha. Big win in Coral Springs! Go Skip!

Barbara Miller? Anyone who has closely followed this race, actually scratch that any one that even VOTED, knows that Skip’s campaign manager was Matt Gotha. Matt was Skip’s right hand man throughout this whole thing and he deserves the credit for helping run this campaign. Let’s give credit where credit’s due!!

The actual credit should go to Mike Kaplan who did all the heavy lifting. Ask skip and if he answers honestly, he’ll tell you the same thing. Besides all of the mail, Mike has been his longtime advisor and political confidant.
FROM BUDDY:
Mike Kaplan is often an unsung hero behind-the-scenes in campaigns. He and Skip go back years.

Of course he will. This man doesn’t give a damn about being mayor of Coral Springs.

Rip this page out of the blog and stick it in the dictionary under “Sour Grapes.”

Buddy;
Why must you edit my comments?
A bit prudish of you, no?

Thank you to the people that were giving me accolades, but it was surely a team effort. And Mike Kaplan does deserve a ton of credit here. We behind the scenes people often don’t get a lot of publicity, but I will be the first to say that Mike Kaplan did a killer job. And of course all of the volunteers that helped out from day one. The citizens of Coral Springs spoke loud and clear about not being happy with the direction of the city. Skip is going to bring leadership and transparency back to the city! Coral Springs will forever remain a city of excellence!

for what it’s worth, Coral Springs has term limits of 6 years and Powers has already been a commissioner for 4. So if he had been elected, he would have been gone in 2 years as well. same reason boccard was just elected mayor in 2012 and already term limited. If skip stays for a minute longer than 2 years, he’ll be there longer than boccard was, or than powers would have been.

Why would a Dem want to go to Tallahassee where they can not get something done unless they turn their backs on their party. Edwards is the only one to get legislation passed and she is constantly chastised for crossing over. Give me one example of Democratic legislative efforts passed other that Edwards.

In the late 90’s-early 2000’s, I went with one of my inspectors to Skip Campbell’s office to provide documents of the corruption going on in the construction program at Broward County Schools. Mr. Campbell had represented him in a lawsuit and I was led to believe Mr. Campbell knew the right people to bring forth an investigation. Never happened. If he gets to the Senate, he should fit in quite well.

Campbell is one of the lawyers the newly elected vice mayor of Dania Beach uses to clean up mismanagement in her “non profit” corporation.
And, he possibly bought the mayor’s position??? Hmmm, they learn from each other.

so the voters spoke.
now change the CS charter so the shenanigans of filers dropping out after the file closing date prevents this in the future.
