Scott Names Three To Group That Picks Judges

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Gov. Rick Scott named three members to Broward’s Judicial Nominating Commission on Wednesday.

The appointments are among the most powerful and coveted in Broward’s legal world — other than judge — because the JNC is the group recommends who Scott will appoint to the bench.

Those appointed include:

* William McCormick, 46, of Margate, is a partner with GrayRobinson P.A. He is reappointed for a term beginning November 19, 2014, and ending July 1, 2018.

William McCormick
* Sidney Calloway, 55, of Davie, is a partner with Shutts Bowen LLP. He succeeds Jamie Finizio-Bascombe and is appointed from a list of nominees submitted by the Florida Bar for a term beginning December 8, 2014, and ending July 1, 2018.

Governor Scott continues to make quality appointments regarding the judiciary despite what the Sun-Sentinel Editorial Board thinks. The picks are clearly non-partisan as Mr. Keller is a democrat.

Mr. Calloway is former President of the TJ Reddick Bar Association and has won numerous awards. Mr. McCormick is a highly skilled commercial litigator. Great job.
