Judicial Candidate Lloyd Golburgh’s Open Letter

Mr. Nevins,

I have never met you, either, but I was a journalism major in College. The first thing I learned there was to write facts, not fiction.

lloyd golburgh

Lloyd Golburgh

I have been a criminal defense lawyer for over sixteen years working for people charged by the government with crimes. My job was to make sure they received what our constitution and our bill of right promised them.

And I do it very well.

I am not a friend of drunk drivers.

For that matter, I’m not a friend of the big banks either. I’ve worked in the trenches of that building downtown for a long time and tried many cases.

Others tell me I’m smart, fair, and empathetic.

Those qualities along with my experience as an actual trial lawyer, make me qualified.

Oh, and by the way, next time you report that I failed to return your phone call for comment, actually make the call first.

(Actually, Lloyd, I did call the number on the Supervisor of Elections website. It was 2:56 p.m. Friday. Regardless,  Browardbeat.com would be interested in discussing with you the race at anytime. Contact Browardbeat@hotmail.com.   Once again, for Browardbeat.com readers, here is a link to your website.)

  1. Reader says:

I read the link. Lloyd Golburgh is exactly as you portrayed him and that is, a drunk driving attorney. That is all that is on his website.

  2. Osama bin Golburgh says:

this will be a batte of “the defenders”

in this corner Lloyd “BAC” Golburgh defender of drunks so they can drive on our streets again to injur or kill

    vs.

in the opposite corner Judge Edward Merrigan defender of our freedom and liberty. Bronze Star winner and Iraqui war vet.

    No Contest: Merrigan

Lloyd you are as anti american as they come. It’s guys like Merrigan who put their lives on the line to protect those constitutional rights that keep you in business keeping drunks on the road.

  3. hi my name is jewish says:

    lloyd

you should kissing merrigan’s butt for putting his life on the line so jerks like you can get rich putting drunk drivers back on the street. Get real your not runnin because you think you are more qualified but in reality it’s because your jewish. No matter, while people may disagree with the war, people are thankful (unlike you) for guys like merrigan putting their lives on the line.

  4. No Brainer says:

So I have no interest in this race in any real sense. Never met Merrigan and never met Golburgh.

Don’t know who I’m voting for or even if I’ll be voting in this race (I make it a practice not to vote in a race where I don’t have a real preference of either candidate).

Haven’t heard from Merrigan yet, but find it interesting that the first words from Golburgh in this race are not about his background or his qualifications, but an attack on Buddy Nevins for his article.

Yes, make the comparison to your journalism BA from 20 years ago to a journalist who’s been at this for nearly as long aso you’ve been alive(sorry to date you Buddy).

Before you go off half-cocked and accuse someone of lying (which is what you did), maybe you should take a breath first, count to 10, and then decide if that’s the best course of action. It’s what most of us call having a good temperament….something I hear judges are supposed to have….

  5. frank icanosty says:

it is a tragedy that our Bill of Rights, rather than protecting the best of us [the overhwelming percentage], has been perverted so as to allow ehtically barren attorneys to repeatedly enable and coddle the worst of us. Maybe Shakespeare was on to something.

  6. hmmmm says:

    Mr. Golburgh:

What makes you better qualified than Judge Merrigan to take over his seat?
Have you ever appeared before him?
Why have you decided to run against Judge Merrigan?
What can you offer the people that he cannot offer?
Have you served as a member of the Armed Forces?
What qualifies you to sit as a judge?
What organizations do you belong to?
How long have you lived in this community?

    Thank you.

And Judge Merrigan, you can answer the same questions.

FROM BUDDY: I would like to add one question:

There have been allegations received by Browardbeat.com that some of the judicial challengers are filing for office becauase their law practices are not doing well financially.
So Mr. Golburgh, how much did you earn the past two years? (some of your financial information will be made public anyway once you file for office.)

  7. pluheeese says:

lloyd aint got much to say now…typical wuss

  8. Chaz Stevens says:

    >> I have never met you, either, but I was a journalism major in College

And along the way mastered the art of Capitalizing words that shouldn’t be capitalized.

  9. not a lawyer says:

timothy it’s past your bed time

  10. God Bless America says:

Goldburgh, it is your right to run for office, but it is obvious what this is really about. Your desire to attack someone fighting for this country is as anti-American as it gets. Is there a reason why you decided to challenge Ed Merrigan other than your religion and the Seidman crew who are backing you? You are already someone’s puppet. Pathetic. Bring it on.

  11. Broward Lawyer says:

There’s more here at play then meets the eye. I think Goldburgh’s backer are not happy that Merrigan got his judgeship because of his political/family connection to Mayor Jack Seiler.
Why don’t you look at and report to us about that, Buddy & Chaz & Christenson and all the other Bloggers. I think they call it nepotism. Merrigan was appointed by Governor Charlie Crist Rothstein

  12. Dumb says:

So let me get this straight. The republican gov did a favor for a term limited state rep who is a mayor of a broward city and a democrat Please, what could Seiler offer Crist?

  13. Penny Lane says:

    @Dumb
You hit the nail on the head with that one! Looks more like someone’s playing the name game. Don’t think it will work this time around.

  14. Railroaded says:

    Interesting.
Lloyd Golburgh running for office? He’d fit right in with the other slobs. Because of him not returning my phone calls (I have phone records for proof) I had penalties that could easily have been dismissed had he paid any attention whatsoever. Not a single call or email in several months leading up to court appearance. And on top of that he charged me over $3000. What a nerve — I sincerely hope he or his family end up behind bars and they receive the same “vigorous representation” he provides. If I could, I’d sue him for his terrible ethics. FOR SHAME, LLOYD!

  15. Jack Pomeroy says:

The worst. You believe you’re his client, but you are his victim. No professional integrity or empathy.

  16. Longtimelawyer says:

Wow. Many of you are trashing Lloyd and don’t even know him. I love this protecting our country crap regarding Merrigan. I think Merrigan would be the first to admit he never fired a shot while in the military. He was behind a desk working as a military lawyer. Big freakin deal. Just because you join the military you are automatically a hero? No, the heros are the guys that strap on their balls every day and go on dangerous missions.

Its Golburghs right to challenge a judge if he feels he could do a better job. No one has a right to say to him, “how dare you challenge Merrigan!”. Who the f are you all to say that? I know Golburgh for many years. He’s tried hundreds of cases. He’s an excellent trial lawyer. Those of you that criticize him for defending people of accused of DUI must be people who NEVER had a single drink and drove a vehicle right? If yes, then you are hypocrites. If no, then you have absolutely no true perspective on what it is to be accused of DUI. Plus of course, police never ever lie right? Those of you that think a person accused of a crime don’t deserve the right to defend themselves should pack up and leave our country right now. There are many countries that will accomodate your, “guilty until proven innocent” ideology.

I think Lloyd is as qualified if not more qualified than Merrigan to be a judge based solely alone on his time in the courtroom trying cases.

While I respect anyone who decides to serve in our armed forces, serving in our armed forces doesn’t mean they should get special treatment merely because they put on a uniform once a months and 2 weeks out of the year.

    So, f you all.

  17. FREEDOMFORALL says:

As far as these questions. I don’t know all the answers, but here’s how I would answer if I were Golburgh….

    Mr. Golburgh:

What makes you better qualified than Judge Merrigan to take over his seat? THE FACT THAT I’VE TRIED A ZILLION MORE CASES THAN HE HAS. AS A LAWYER, I WOULD WANT A JUDGE WITH EXPERIENCE IN COURT APPLYING THE RULES OF EVIDENCE AND PROCEDURE. A JUDGE HAS A PERSON’S FATE IN THEIR HANDS AND BEING A “NICE GUY” ISN’T ENOUGH TO ENSURE A FAIR TRIAL.
Have you ever appeared before him? I CAN’T ANSWER FOR LLOYD ON THAT ONE. MAYBE THE REASON HE DECIDED TO RUN AGAINST HIM IS BECAUSE HE SAW THAT HE CAN DO A BETTER JOB?
Why have you decided to run against Judge Merrigan? IT’S MY RIGHT AS AN AMERICAN AND I THINK I CAN DO A BETTER JOB. YOU ARE FREE TO DISAGREE WITH THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS IF YOU WISH.
What can you offer the people that he cannot offer? MY CAREER AS A LAWYER DIDN’T INVOLVE SITTING BEHIND A DESK IN A CIVILIAN OR MILITARY CAPACITY. MY CAREER AS A TRIAL LAWYER INVOLVED REPRESENTING CLIENTS IN COURT AND IN TRIAL. I THINK THE PUBLIC WOULD RATHER HAVE A JUDGE WHO HAS PERSPECTIVE REPRESENTING CITIZENS ACCUSED OF CRIMES IN COURT THAN A JUDGE WHO HAS NO TRIAL EXPERIENCE AND CAN’T RELATE TO WHAT A CITIZEN ACCUSED OF A CRIME GOES THROUGH.
Have you served as a member of the Armed Forces? NO, AND HOW WOULD THAT MAKE ME MORE QUALIFIED FOR A POSITION AS A JUDGE? MERRIGAN DIDN’T HAVE A REAL MILITARY POSITION. HIS JOB IN THE MILITARY WAS THE SAME JOB HE DID IN THE CIVILIAN WORLD. IF I WAS A PLUMBER IN THE CIVILIAN WORLD AND WAS A MILITARY PLUMBER ALSO IN THE RESERVES WOULD I BE A HERO? LET’S NOT MINIMIZE WHAT A HERO TRULY IS.
What qualifies you to sit as a judge? SIMPLY PUT, MY TRIAL EXPERIENCE AND COURTROOM EXPERIENCE. PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT TRIED AT LEAST 10 CASES AS FIRST CHAIR SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE JUDGES. WOULD YOU LET SOMEONE BE A RACE CAR DRIVER WHO HAS NEVER DRIVEN A CAR?
What organizations do you belong to? WHO CARES? AS A JUDGE DON’T YOU WANT TO BE AS IMPARTIAL AS POSSIBLE? WOULDN’T TIES TO PARTICULAR ORGANIZATIONS AND PEOPLE MAKE YOU MORE LIKELY TO BE PARTIAL?
How long have you lived in this community? I HAVE LIVED IN BROWARD FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS AND IN SOUTH FLORIDA ALL MY LIFE. MY LAW PRACTICE HAS ALWAYS BEEN BASED IN BROWARD. BEEN HERE LONGER THAN THE GOVERNOR OF OUR STATE THAT YOU GOOSE STEPPING COMMUNISTS VOTED INTO OFFICE.

  18. FREEDOMFORALL says:

Don’t know why I am so obsessed with this. Doesn’t matter at this moment, but maybe later.

Went to Merrigan’s site. Site refers to him as a “war hero” because he received a bronze star? C’mon, give me a break. He was a military lawyer and now his assignment is Civil Affairs? He received a bronze star for doing his job well as a paper pusher. I guess it doesn’t mean much to be an actual war hero these days. We call guys that receive medals of honor and other medals for bravery war heros, not because a guy did his job well pushing paper! Love the pic on Merrigan’s site posing in front of some artillery!! Hah, what did he do? Requisition the paint for the artillery? I will bet you he was never around when those cannons were fired. Ticks me off when people throw the word “hero” around so loosely and use their behind the desk military job to imply that they are “heros”. If he had gotten a papercut or tripped on some barbed wire, I’m sure we would see, “purple heart recipient” on his site too.
