Broward Tea Party, Occupy Fort Lauderdale To Protest At Obama Fundraiser

Broward’s Left and Right have one thing in common – scheduled demonstrations tonight against Michelle Obama in Davie.
Members of the local Tea Party and Occupy Fort Lauderdale have announced plans to protest a fundraiser featuring the First Lady.
The two groups aren’t on the picket line for the same reasons, although it will be amusing to see them at the same event.
The Tea Party folks are protesting the Obama Administration. Occupy Fort Lauderdale sympathizers are against the big money influence on politics that the fundraiser represents.
Some guests at the Signature Grand event are expected to pay $25,000 for a 10-seat table. These high-rollers also get to attend a reception with the First Lady and get a picture taken with her.
Advertised as attending the event along with Ms. Obama are U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, and Tracy Mourning, wife of former Miami Heat Alonzo Mourning.

Please note time change, the fundraiser starts at 5:30PM, we should be there at least one hour prior to make ourselves seen. Feel free to come even earlier than that but if you get there before the “Flag Truck”, make sure you leave an area open that faces SR84 so the flag truck can be parked there for full visual impact.

PARKING INSTRUCTIONS: Please park on the SW corner of SR84 and SW 70 Avenue, there is a big parking area there. Keep an eye out for the “Flag Truck”. You can access SW 70 Avenue from both SR84 or College Avenue.
STAGING INSTRUCTIONS: Hotel has 2 entries and close to each other so we need to cover them both.

Sounds like fun.
Too bad I won’t be there. Don’t have that kind of money, and if I did, I wouldn’t be there anyhow.
Talk about ethics, influence buying and lobbying. This is what they should be addressing. Now we are talking big bucks.
If any county commissioners are going to be there, are they paying? or is it a gift?
Any chance of getting some pictures of the guests? But if you do, then do it for the other side when they come.

It’s fascinating that nobody asked for pictures of attendees when George W was running for re-election. I voted for him the first time not the second. But there was no great rediscovery of ethics back then, when many of same lobbyists and businesses were pouring money into his campaign.
There’s nothing quite so disgusting as what’s become of American politics and civility. It doesn’t bother me that there are disagreements on issues. That’s to be expected. I am offended by how we go about dealing with those disagreements. We have no self-respect much less respect for others and that is why there is no civility, no statesmanship, no leadership, nothing is honored. We are a nation of pigs not eagles.
This nation is not even close to the status our parents were. That was a generation of honorable patriots who had respect and civility. Ours is the first in American history that isn’t better than that last. This is totally and completely our fault. But saying that is also a waste of time because we don’t even have the class to get our arms around that fact, much less take responsibilty for it.
Who we elect as president doesn’t matter anymore because America has become a nation of disrespectful, low life scumbags. Why would anyone want to run much less serve as President of Scumbags? We are not worthy of the nation we live in anymore. I hate this time in our history.

Occupy Fort Lauderdale is coming to the Signature Grand to recognize that we reside in a county where “Pay to Play” is the norm.
Most (if not all) of Broward County’s Occupy can’t afford to purchase the access that is for sale at this event.
I only have good things to say about who Debbie Wasserman Shultz is and about who Michelle Obama seems to be, but as a fundraising effort they are selling access and photos.
This is not the America our forefathers invisioned and no where in the Constitution is money equated with speech or access. This is a creation of the 1% that controls the body politics and one of the primary reasons that the Occupy protesters/participants have taken to the streets.
As for the Tea Party, they are the mirror image of Occupy and all sides need to recognise the anger eminating from the streets, from the right, left and center that is manifesting and the reason that is happening, before change is forced upon we/us/them!

The tea party notice suggest both “hotel” entrances at Signature Grand Hotel be covered…ITS NOT A HOTEL…btw all Obama has done so far is avoid W’s depession, kill bin Laden and a bunch of other really bad guys, win in Lybia without boots on the ground, create unity in the world against the likes of Ghaddafi and new ways of fighting wars, started taking profits out of health care…much more avaialble on request

I DID VOTE FOR OBAMA THE FIRST TIME, I WILL NOT BE VOTING FOR HIM IN 2012. HE HAS NOT LIVED UP TO HIS PROMISES, MATTER OF FACT THE ECONOMY IS WORSE, HE HAS JUST ADDED TO THE DEBIT. HE IS ALWAYS IN CONFORTATION W/CONGRESS, HIS IDEAS ARE NOT MY IDEAS. I BELIEVE WE NEED TO CUT FOREIGN AIDE, TAKE CARE OF THOSE AT HOME FIRST. WE ARE ALWAYS STICKING OUR NOSES WHERE IT DOESN’T BELONG.
