Something very dangerous is brewing in U. S. House District 22: Allen West.
Parts of West’s campaign are nothing more than hate speech.
He says Moslems have been damned by God. Anybody who gave to this bigot should demand their money back.
His vehemence against anyone who practicing Moslem is disgusting and not worthy of the Republican Party, which always claims to have a Big Tent.
Maybe this is where the Republican Party is headed.
His website is filled with rhetoric more reminiscent of a racist than of a congressional candidate.
He refuses to capitalize Muhammad and Islam on his website, making an editorial comment that they are not worthy.
Worst of all is the following statement on his website. It has no place in politics:
“Genesis Chapter 16, verses 11-12 states, ‘And the Angel of the Lord said to her (Hagar): Behold you are with child, and you shall bear a son, you shall call his name Ishmael, because the Lord has heard your affliction. He shall be a wild man; His hand shall be against everyman, and every man’s hand against him. And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.’
Ishmael of course became the beginning of the Arab people.and God’s word is immutable truth.
In West’s America, we should write off the millions of law-abiding Arabs in this country because God supposedly damned them!
I wonder if Tripp Scott law firm’s managing partner Ed Pozzuoli knew when he gave West $2,300 he would be furthering this kind of hate speech?
Does Wayne Huizenga Jr. and Sr., who each gave $2,300, approve of this trash?
What about Fred Perry of the Bank of America, who gave nearly $5,000 to West’s campaigns?
Or The Regional Republican Club of Coral Springs? Or a physician at the Fort Lauderdale Eye Institute? Or dentists at Nova Southeastern dental school?
All are West contributors.
Years ago, racists used the Bible to prove that segregation was a proper way of life.
Exodus 33:16 was a popular quotation of Southern bigots: “So shall we be separated, and all of Thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.”
A local powerbroker in the early 1970s insisted during an interview that the Bible proved that segregation was proper. He quoted the exact chapter of Genesis that West uses on his campaign website to damn Arabs. The powerbroker said the chapter “obviously” referred to blacks.
Last week I got a call from a major local political contributor. He said he gave money to West and then went to a speech given by the candidate.
He came away disgusted. This guy runs a business and has Moslem employees. He was ashamed he ever gave money to West.
There is no doubt we are at war with radical Islamists, who would like to crush anyone who disagrees with their Seventh Century view of the world.
We are not alone in this war. Suicide bombers today struck at the Moscow subway. They have attacked Spain and England.
I believe we need to take drastic steps, such as stepped up surveillance and trying terrorists in military courts.
Bigotry is not the answer. It is wrong to label an entire religion as damned by God.
America has many friends in the Moslem world. We will never beat the terrorists without the help of these friends.
Make no mistake: America can not go to war with the entire Moslem world.
Allen West is wrong for the Republican Party. He would take the Big Tent and shrink it to a pup tent, which would fit only those approved by Allen West.
Moslems need not apply.
