Scott Rothstein To The Rescue
BY BUDDY NEVINS
If the recession has hit your charity, you might want to invite superlawyer Scott Rothstein and his wife, Kimberly Rothstein.
The Rothsteins are single-handedly keeping a number of Broward County’s charities in the black with their philanthropy.
Since the first of the year the Rothsteins have:
- Given between $500,000 and $1 million to the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County. Charity sources say they haven’t totaled up yet the take from two big events where Rothstein and his firm gave money. But at just one event at the Boca Raton Resort and Club, Rothstein was a $50,000 sponsor and kicked in “six figures” more for auction goodies, according to an official of the club.
- Donated thousands to the Broward Public Library Foundation for its Literary Feast 2009. The Rothsteins and his firm Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler were two of the three leading sponsors Nova Southeastern University was the other one — of last weekend’s festival. The event included flying in over a dozen well-known authors from out of town.
- Bought a $25,000 platinum sponsorship — the top catagory — at the Broward Partnership for the Homeless dinner April 4. The price $25,000 and that is before he starts bidding in the charity auction.
Scott may be a tad eccentric. The bodyguards are a bit much, since I’ve met with many very rich guys over the years and none of them had them.
I lived in an apartment when I was a kid and Meyer “The Brain” Lansky’s brother, Jake”The Enforcer” Lansky, had an apartment in the same building. I saw both the Lanskys numerous times and they didn’t have bodyguards, or they did they kept them well hidden.
But who cares about Rothstein’s idiosyncrasies when he is so generous.
Broward is a better place because of Scott and Kimberly.

I agree with Nevins on this one. Rothstein is a spur in the side of all the law firms. I don’t see them contributing to the poor like Scott so they need to shut up.

Rothstein is a puppetmaster of the Republican party. We know you Nevins switched parties and throw your fate in with them Do you have to glorify them?

Scott Rothstein is a prince. Where is the charity money from Ruden, Greenberg, Shutts, Gunster and the rest of the downtown Fort Lauderdale crowd?

Rothstein the Savior of Charities?
Whatever man. The guy was named as Humanitarian of the Year by the Emerald Society of Fort Lauderdale a few weeks ago.
You’d think that a 70-80 lawyer firm might be able to come up with something a bit more than 1 table and 1 add when the named partner is being given a Man of the Year award and the proceeds were being used to fund scholarships for local high school students in need.
Charles Whitelock, who I think is in sole practice, bought multiple tables and had his friends and family there.
Scott may have talked the talk about giving until it hurts at the event, but he certainly didn’t walk the walk last week.

First and foremost, on behalf of the Emerald Society it was our honor and privilege to award Mr. Rothstein our Humanitarian of the Year Award.
I am sure Mr. Rothstein gets asked to participate in many many charitable events and from what I have read he is generous to all of them.
The point of making Mr. Rothstien our Humanitarian of the Year was to celebrate him for his good work in our community, not to have him purchase tables and advertisements.
I am proud to say even in an off election year and with the current state of our economy the Emerald Society Breakfast was one of the most profitable we have ever had. Part of our success this year was the show of support from the community who attended to celebrate all of our honorees.
Sincerely

Where is all that money coming from? Who are all these clients? I don’t see how all this works and sooner or later that entire thing will have to come to a crashing halt. That lawfirm is like a levitation trick, you see it but can you really believe it?

Hey Folks-I run a large non-profit, and no I have not received any funds from Rothstein or his firm, But I salute the man because he supports OUR community. Why does evrybody try to attack the good things people do?

I have heard from a pretty good source that Rothstein pledges money to the charities but doesn’t make good on his pledges. Does anyone know if this is true? It could just be a well placed rumor. I commend him for donating… I just hope that the information I have received is not true.
FROM BUDDY: I haven’t heard anything of the kind. In fact, I checked with some of these charities and everyone I contacted got their money from Rothstein.
He simply has a good heart and likes sharing his good fortune.

And now we know where he got the money from . . .

I love how people are so naive when they see the glitz and glamour that some people portray. The truly wealthy don’t have to flash it around, and they rarely do. It’s funny that somebody on this website questioned the source of his wealth back 3/24/09, but nobody realized the sham until now. I never heard of any huge cases that he or RRA won that could give him the kind of wealth he liked to throw around and flaunt. What a scumbag. Rot in hell Rothstein.

Ha! A prince with a kingdom of stolen, pilfered money. It’s pretty easy to throw money around to charities when it’s neither earned nor yours….

I am hard of Hearing, could you please repeat where the hell my money went…

“He simply has a good heart and likes sharing his good fortune.”
So did Bernie.
But didn’t realize that stealing millions and living an eccentric lifestyle off the money of others was “good fortune”.
He is an arrogant two bit their who will come out of jail shorter than is current 5′ 5″ status.

Yeah, Rothstein is a real prince. Steal from the rich so he can give to the poor and take credit.

This article is soooo ironic in view of the news. I think Broward is a much worse place now.
