Bloomberg Campaign Comes To Parkland

BY BUDDY NEVINS

In a symbolic show of support for gun control, Mike Bloomberg’s campaign is opening an office in Parkland.

His campaign signed a lease for a field office in the northwest Broward town today on the second anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Doulgas High murderous rampage on Feb. 14, 2018, a source told Browardbeat.

Bloomberg was endorsed yesterday by Parkland’s congressman, U. S. Rep. Ted Deutsch, D-Boca Raton.

The former New York Mayor and billionaire media mogul spent tens of millions of dollars promoting gun control his nonprofit Everytown for Gun Safety.

He has also made gun control one of his Democratic presidential campaign’s signature issues.

Good for Mr Bloomberg! Gun ‘Rights’ have made our country THE ONLY CIVILIZED COUNTRY WITH HUGE MURDER N GUN VIOLENCE RATES. I dont believe the Suoreme Court Decisions such as ‘Heller’ mean ANYONE CAN HAVE ANY GUN.

  2. City activist Robert Walsh says:

Here comes the money guy.Although he will never get the Black vote. His ” stop and frisk” will and I don.t care how.many times he apologizes Black people will not forget,or vote for him.Although it has been reported he is will to spend 2 Billion dollars if necessary.Basically all Mr.Bloomberg is doing is getting in the way for Joe Biden.Besides with the last 100 yrs I don’t t think the United States has ever elected a president that was not at least 6 ft.tall.So I guess I will stick to cutting hair ..

  3. Charlotte Greenbarg says:

Positions very malleable. From NYT “The stakes for Mr. Bloomberg in the gun debate may be particularly high, as he seeks to persuade Democratic voters to look past some of his more conservative positions — including his record of championing aggressive policing as mayor, and his general sympathy for the banking industry — and embrace him as a key champion of a few core progressive concerns. And as other Democrats criticize the way he is using his personal fortune in the election, Mr. Bloomberg has pointed to his self-funded advocacy on guns, climate and other issues as proof of his good intentions.”

He’s an opportunist who disavows prior more conservative actions when called out.

  4. Charlotte Greenbarg says:

    From Wikipedia: “Political positions
Bloomberg was a lifelong Democrat until 2001, when he switched to the Republican Party before running for Mayor. He switched to an independent in 2007, and registered again as a Democrat in October 2018.”

  5. Charlotte Greenbarg says:

From the Washington Post,Henry Olsen “Back in March, Bloomberg said he wouldn’t run because he was “clear-eyed about the difficulty of winning the Democratic nomination in such a crowded field.” The field remains crowded and eight months have passed, making his job that much harder. Perhaps he sees a path no one else can divine. Or perhaps he just needs to stop looking in the mirror and get himself a new set of glasses.”

  6. Richard J Kaplan (Ret.) says:

    Buddy,

While as Mayor I met and worked with projects that Mayor Bloomberg participated with. He is very capable.

After serving as Mayor, Bloomberg also created and funded the group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, that many Mayors, including myself joined.

Not long afterwards I had a spirited conversation with someone with the NRA on the phone against this organization and trying to get me to remove my support. This had worked with some of my colleagues.

I asked them if they were really in support of people having illegal guns. Their answer was that they were against anything that in any way restricted gun ownership and that is really what this organization was about, which while not said, presumably meant they were in favor of illegal guns. There were also some reference that unless I dropped out I would not being re-elected.

Obviously I didn’t agree and told them that I felt they had failed in their responsibility to promote gun safety.

I’ll leave it at that on what the NRA really stands for.

Now I have endorsed someone else, but I can tell you that I wouldn’t discount Bloomberg as a credible candidate that I could support if my candidate doesn’t succeed.

  7. Just One Vote says:

FL dems vote March 17. And then on to the Dem convention July 13. Five short months away. Can Bloomberg buy the nomination? Will the other Dems step back and allow this?
Can hrc as Veep get it done? Bloomberg has unlimited funds, can write blank checks, pay top dollar. Seems more like a disrupter, monkey wrench in the wheel. Newspapers and blogs will be busy!! Hope they all make money!!

  8. Count LF Chodkiewicz Chudzikiewicz says:

    Harry Truman was 5 8

    Dwight Eisenhower was 5 10

    You all get my point.

  9. A Reader says:

Sorry I cannot comment on Bloomberg. I am still grieving over Andrew Yang’s leaving the competition. I was so looking forward to that $1000 a month stipend. Tears!! Pass the tissues, please.
However, if Bloomberg makes a better offer, I might consider him as a viable candidate.

  10. Floridan says:

I care a lot less about the money than I do the policies and the ability to honestly and competently perform the duties of the nation’s chief executive. Bloomberg still has a way to go before he can be considered the obvious choice, but it appears the other candidates are taking him seriously.

  11. Oh please says:

@ Richard J. Kaplan, what is the need for a funded group called Mayors Against ILLEGAL Guns? If the guns at issue are already illegal, then there are already laws on the books to address them, so enforce the laws. The anti gun true end game is to keep passing laws to make more, then all, guns illegal. You can say it’s not true, but it is. Use gun crimes and illegal guns to make legal guns, owned by law-abiding citizens, illegal. No thank you. Vote NO Bloomberg.

  12. City activist Robert Walsh says:

Tell u one thing money bags here(Bloomberg) is paying staff at his Wilton Manors off.1500/week.Not bad for basically stuffing envelopes and cold calling people all day.

  13. What happens in Las Vegas stays in LV says:

Bloomberg should know when to fold them and stop his campaign now. He was a complete disaster in the debate in LV. He looked like a stand in, not the person depicted in his ads.

  14. Richard J Kaplan (Ret.) says:

Please see “Oh please” to see exactly the point I was trying to make.

I would expect that everybody is against Illegal Guns. Just by mentioning you are against Illegal Guns, supporters of guns immediately believe you are against all guns. That is totally wrong.

Their true goal is to make all guns legal to everyone, everywhere. Even for criminals.

When I hear that they want to support the laws on the books in a meaningful way then I would reconsider my view of them.

The strongest I have said is that I believe that the NRA should fund and support a real program that teaches gun safety. Not just something that pays lip service to safety. They don’t and present laws required on gun safety are a joke. Guns are more of a danger to the owner then those they are trying to be protected from.

So you know, I went through 8 weeks of training by a US Major and I am a qualified Marksman on the rifle. I didn’t qualify on a hand gun so I wouldn’t own one until I qualify. SAFETY FIRST.

  15. Alexis de Tocqueville says:

    @9
I tried to warn you about this….

  16. Ha Ha Ha says:

@11 The “anti gun end game is to keep passing laws to make more, then all, guns” SAFE. No law can override the US Constitution, so your claim that new laws will make all guns illegal is totally delusional.

  17. City activist Robert Walsh says:

Seeing Me.Bloomberg at the debate last night and how rude the other canidates were was awful.Counterproductive.Considering Bloomberg can cause major chaos esp to Biden.Even say Mayor Pete gets out and Kloubachar supporters will go to Biden.Warren supporters will go to Bernie. So given the math Bloomberg will stand in the way for both Biden/ Sanders.Instead of telling Bloomberg off they all should have been more receptive to money bags.

  18. Count LF Chodkiewicz Chudzikiewicz says:

For Sanders to attack the leading pro Israel group in the Jewish Community n DEFEND CASTRO in Florida – where Cuban Jews settled after BEING ROBBED N HARASSED BY CASTRO will give Florida to Trump if he’s the CANDIDATE.

  19. City activist Robert Walsh says:

Now after spending over 500 million dollars he drops out.Now that him and the others are out of Sanders/ Biden way let the real race begin.Tell u one thing the DNC is playing dirty when it comes to Bernie. For instance Biden won Texas- BS.Im hearing alot of polling locations along the Texas border ,either voting machines were down or even open. That is not right.Play fair.Oh it’s evident that the DNC would rather have Biden. We the people pick the canidates, not u DNC.
