Two Mayors Give Their Views

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Wanna get the scoop on two Broward cities.at least from the mayors’ point of view?

Two interesting blogs are written regularly by Mayor Tom Truex of Davie here and Mayor Richard Kaplan of Lauderhill here.

Lauderhill’s city politics is relatively calm.  The city is undergoing a lot of redevelopment.

Davie is a caldron of conflicting interests battling for power in town hall.

As part of this continuing political fight, Truex is facing a tough re-election against former Commissioner Judy Paul.

Paul is backed by Property Appraiser Lori Parrish’s crowd.

Parrish likes that Paul is against The Commons, the 152-acre shopping and office complex planned for Interstate 75 and Royal Palm Boulevard.  The Commons passed the county commission last week 5-3, but must return to Davie Town Hall for various approvals in the future.

Truex supported The Commons, saying it will provide Davie with millions in tax dollars annually.

The Davie mayor’s race promises to be one of the most combative campaigns next year.

Paul’s campaign has a website here.

I hope Mayor Truex has another four years! He is a great Mayor and very ethical and honest person. Definitely someone who represents the best interest of his constituents.

Well… at least some people who serve the public interests are tech savvy. I wish that Margate would be so, but most elected officials seem to be partial to the chisel and stone tablet.
