Tamarac Recall Successful! Election To Be Set

Tamarac Commissioner Patte Atkins-Grad is headed to a recall election.

The Supervisor of Elections today told recall supporters that they had collected 2,296 valid signatures on a petition calling for Atkins-Grad’s removal.

They only needed 1,875.

“We did it,” recall chief Sharon Baron crowed.

A recall election for the commissioner could be set within 30 days. Atkins-Grad can also resign, something Baron does not expect.

The recall was sparked by Atkins-Grad’s admission during a trial that she took favors from the developer of an unpopular project.  She was acquitted of the corruption charges after her attorney argued that she was too naive to know taking gifts was illegal.

Atkins-Grad also is contesting the recall in court, but lost at the trial level.  The case is now in the Court of Appeals.

  1. Aletheia says:

Bye, bye birdbrain! Stupidity is not an acceptable defense! You weren’t too naive to take the gifts…now were you, Patte?

  2. Walter Morris says:

I’m hoping that Michelle Gomez replaces Patte. Michelle has experience in the position and I believe she would represent District 2 with her best efforts.

  3. Alice in Wonderland says:

I hope Ilene Michelson enters the race.

  4. Susan says:

Now she should be made to pay back any lawyer fees and any other fees that the city provided for her.

  5. Alice McGill says:

How absolutely refreshing to see the residents of a city taking the reins. Congratulations to all the voters who worked so hard to accomplish your goal. Dania Beach is not in the hands of the residents. The Duke political machine of Walter, Lisa, Bobbie, Patrick, and Chaz are in charge. It is an ugly situation that will change for the better. It can’t get much worse. Go, Tamarac!

  6. Tits McGee says:

@Walter Morris Michelle Gomez is a member of the Tamarac Kiwanis Crew-Entin, Barry Harris and etc–behind this recall. they like Gomez because of her family money but nosy neighbors say one of the recall organizers wants to run. You boob!

  7. Just wondering says:

If she is appealing the trial court’s refusal to overturn the recall, won’t the recall be stayed pending the completion of the appeal process?

    FROM BUDDY:

I’m sure they will be asking for a stay. Whether they get one is another question.

  8. Ha Ha Ha says:

Atkins-Grad may soon be arrested for battery and perp-walked accordingly.

  9. Alvin Entin says:

McGee, get your facts straight. I am not now, and have never been a member of Tamarac or another Kiwanis Club. You my dear lady are incorrect and probably a friend of Atkins Grad. Enjoy yourself now, the election is in sight.

  10. Tits McGee says:

@alvin, I said Entin not “Alvin Entin.” Do you have family in Kiwanis? a brother? i never met Atkins Grad. She should share a cell with Beth Talabisco. How is your recall of mayor Beth going? You boob

  11. Alvin Entin says:

You call me boob with a name like Tits? My brother is in Kiwanis, but has had NOTHING to do with the recall except signing it at the very end. I can assure you that my brother who is in Kiwanis for all the right reasons would have probably preferred that I had not been involved in it at all. There is np basis to recall Ms Talabisco while her case is unresolved. But then, you knew that didn’t you!

  12. Tits McGee says:

@Alvin Entin, tis true mayor Beth’s case is “unresolved.” But Atkins Grad’s case was “resolved” when she was acquitted. But you pick and choose your indignation, don’t you? Have you discussed the recall with Ms Gomez? Baron and Harris already counting all those Hebrew National freebies?

  13. Ha Ha Ha says:

There’s nothing unresolved about Diane “Gimme Immunity From Prosecution, Then I’ll Sing” Glasser – she took plenty of Chait money… AND Glasser is pulling a partial Atkins-Grad as well by claiming to have “medical and memory loss problems…”

“[…] Perhaps Glasser isn’t too upset. She said The Chaits, meaning father and son Bruce and Shawn, paid […] They met in a bagel shop on March 15, 2006, just the day after the election where Bruce Chait handed her an envelope. […] The envelope had a check, made out to Diane Glasser, in the amount of $15,000. […]”

  14. Peace in Tamarac says:

I can no longer stand by and read the misinformation that TM is providing to the community. Please have your facts straight about individuals, i.e, Michelle J. Gomez, before putting them in a public forum. You are so far off mark on the inheritance (there is none) and perhaps her involvement in Kiwanis does not have anything to do with the people you listed. It is your right not to like or support her but it is your responsibility to provide accurate information. Tamarac needs to heal and untruths like these are not helping.

Tamarac commissioner will resign if paid settlement
Patricia Atkins-Grad writes she’ll resign if paid $8K
