Rick Scott Using State Money For Campaign?

BY BUDDY NEVINS

A reader, who holds a real estate license, sent me the letter below.

It  came with his license renewal.

My reader wrote: “This is clearly a campaign letter being sent with public dollars.”

Clearly it’s not a straight-up campaign ad. It doesn’t mention Gov. Rick Scott’s re-election or the upcoming campaign.

Clearly it is a reminder to every professional getting this letter that the governor is Rick Scott.

Nothing new in using state money to publicize the current occupant of the governor’s mansion. For instance,  the governor’s name and picture has appeared for years on the maps of Florida handed out by the state.

This note, however, wanders off into a quasi-campaign pitch when Scott writes about his goals and that Florida is “moving in the right direction” under his “right strategies.”

Is the message from Scott is kosher? You decide.

The letter is below.  Click to enlarge (the legend at the top of the screen is the work of the reader who sent it.):

    Yep, that’s a campaign letter, fer sher. And how much personal wealth does this guy have?

    I never cease to be amazed at how people with so much wealth of their own are willing to bleed us taxpayers at every turn. How can we stop Scott from perpetuating this latest political scam?

    Governor Scott needs to be sent packing at the next election, plain and simple.

  4. just one vote says:

    @Notocorruption
    Governor Scott WILL be sent packing at the next election, plain and simple.

  5. acitizen says:

    This a obviously part of his stump speech clear and simple!

  6. City Activist Robert Walsh says:

    This Gov. is slippery. He is going to play dirty. Play Dirtier. And get me my voting rights bach,. From this bigot.

  7. David Brown says:

    Buddy, why don’t you contact the Governor’s office and find out how many millions of these letters were printed, how long he has been doing this and exactly into which agencies and departments mailings they are being added.

    The letter you posted could not have been written just for Real Estate License renewals. It is a generic letter fully consistent with his campaign messaging that can be added to any, and maybe all, outgoing mail from a number of state offices.

    Inquiring minds want to know.

    “Organizing for America” has worked out so far for Obama. This shouldn’t be a problem for Rick

  9. Nick Sakhnovsky says:

    If the same letter went out since his inauguration in 2011, then maybe it’s kosher. If it just started going out this year, it is not just a reminder of who is governor — but who is governor gearing up for re-election. And p.s.: the state maps with the gov’s photo on them end up primarily in out-of-state tourists’ hands, not those of Fla. voters. The depicted letter, though, is intended for Fla. voters/businesspeople and, more importantly, potential donors.

  10. Taxpayer says:

    the license I renewed in August 2012 did NOT come with that letter insert, but my renewed license in feb 2013 INCLUDED that letter in the envelope
    he figures all the people he ‘regulates’ thru DBPR will support him
    NOT me (Crist where are you and are you getting ready?)
    if the stats were available for all licenscees who either went inactive, or are delinquent would tell the real story
    he can hang out in Naples FL house come January 2015 because he won’t be re-elected

  11. sidelines says:

    @David Brown –
    All businesses regulated by DBPR will be including that letter with the renewed license.
