Lauren Book Snares Cop Endorsement

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Lauren Book

State Senate candidate Lauren Book has snared the endorsement of the Broward County Police Benevolent Association, which would mean more if she had an opponent.

However, it is an example of how money — she has more than $1 million in her campaign — and clout from her father, veteran lobbyist Ron Book, buys influence for a novice candidate.

That is not to say that Ms. Book doesn’t deserve the endorsement.  I agree with Broward PBA President Jeff Marano when he says:

“Lauren has proven to be an incredible and resilient woman…she will be a great leader and asset not only to her District 32 constituents, but to all Floridians….”

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Broward County Police Benevolent Association has announced its support for Lauren Book for election to the Florida State Senate, District 32, in the General Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

“Lauren has proven to be an incredible and resilient woman,” Broward County PBA President Jeff Marano said. “We are confident she will be a great leader and asset not only to her District 32 constituents, but to all Floridians. Law enforcement relies on public officials and we strive to endorse the very best candidates.”

Book is an author, educator and internationally respected and renowned child advocate. As founder and CEO of Lauren’s Kids, Book seeks to create a world where the exploitation of children is not tolerated. She has been named a PEOPLE All-Star Among Us, L’Oreal Woman of Worth and is the recipient of a Congressional Medal of Merit for her tireless work to protect childhood.

Since 2002, Book has advocated for the passage of laws to better support survivors of abuse and protect children from predators, including the enactment of the nation’s toughest mandatory reporting laws, the creation of child safety zones and the elimination of the Statute of Limitations for prosecution of sexual crimes committed against children. Since 2010, Lauren has walked 1,500 miles across the state of Florida annually to raise awareness and empower survivors with the message that “It’s OK to Tell.”

Book was born and raised in South Florida, where she currently resides and directs Lauren’s Kids. She graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and creative writing and a master’s degree in community psychology and social change.

How much money has the Book’s donated to the Broward PBA over the years?

  2. Count LF Chodkiewicz Chudzikiewicz says:

And the Union should endorse its enemies?

  3. City Activist Robert Walsh says:

I think that some of you are very jealous of Lauren ‘ father and are venting towards her. I think this is a very good endorsement , a feather in her hat. I do not know this gal but I respect/like what she stands for. The street in Ft.Lau. should be named after her for the simple fact to bring awareness to the sexual treatment center(Nancy Cotterman etc-which in its existing shape is a dump(not right). She can win this seat and I hope she does….

  4. Count LF Chodkiewicz Chudzikiewicz says:

NEVER name a place after a living person UNLESS THEY PAY FOR THE PUBLIC AMENITY n then be VERY CAREFUL i.e. Abel Holtz Stadium Seymour Zises n Ivan Boelsky Facilities

I have never met this young person. However, I am a volunteer for abused, abandoned and neglected children. She has a stellar reputation as a child advocate. She is very bright, sincere and has incredible potential as a progressive leader for our community and beyond. I am just a low profile retired attorney trying to have a positive impact on some kids who are in desperate circumstances. Helping these kids and their families is a priority of Ms Book. She is smarter and more sincere than the typical politician. I support her and wish her the best.
