Governor Celebrates Two Holidays

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Our governor is ecumenical…up to a point.

Rick Scott celebrated Chanukah at the governor’s mansion and three days later lit the Christmas tree.

This is par for politicians. Presidents have been doing it for years.

It is an attempt to prove pols are just  like regular folks.

As if lighting a Chanukah candle or a Christmas tree makes the multi-million dollar health care executive just like us.  This is a guy who has a $10 million mansion in Naples. This is a guy who bought and stored an entire second roof of tiles in a warehouse as a backup if we have a storm.

Still, I’ve got to laugh at these photos. I wonder in the future if the celebrations will stops at a Jewish and Christian holiday?

Will we ever see an Islamic or Hindu holiday celebrated in the governor’s mansion?  There are plenty of Islamic and Hindu voters in this state.

Chinese New Year? Noruz, which is the Zoroastrian New Year and is recognized by the United Nations?

Festivus?

Atty. General Pam Bundi (far left) and Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater (far right) next to Agricultural Commissioner Adam Putnam (red hair) join Gov. Rick Scott and Mrs. Scott in tree lighting at the governor’s mansion

Gov. Rick Scott lights the first Chunikah candal with a Tallahassee rabbi.  That’s right, a Tallahassee rabbi.

any body think Governor Scott will get a serious Republican Primary challenger? and if so, any speculative guesses, or even insider scooooop?

So what is the issue? All politicians do it. The President does it. Why didn’t you challenge Obama? Although I did not vote for Scott, and am hardly a fan of his, I don’t know why this is an issue. And by the way, when I lived in Parkland, I had an extra set of roof tiles stored in my garage. It is just being a smart homeowner. The folks who purchased my home were mighty appreciative!
