Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Dr. Steven Bogdanoff is not just your average middle aged Broward County dentist.

Bogdanoff recently volunteered to do a tour in Iraq.

While you are celebrating Thanksgiving and looking forward to the rest of the holidays, Bogdanoff is treating our soliders.

“We have been busy. The soldiers drink a lot of sugary drinks, sweet tea, gator aid, and sodas. I see a lot of decay, bad wisdom teeth, and broken teeth. Once in a while we see trauma, someone falls, or hits something. I haven’t seen an injury from combat thankfully,” Bogdanoff wrote on his blog November 19.

The blog is an interesting glance at Iraq from inside an Army base.  Bogdanoff does teeth.  He doesn’t do combat.so far.

Still, everything is on the front lines in Iraq.

And something that would really bug me: “Cleaning is never over here with the dust and mud. Bogdanoff writes.

Bodanoff is the husband of state Rep. Ellyn Bogdanoff, R-Fort Lauderdale.  His tour started mid-October.

He missed Ellyn’s big re-election victory November 4.  He missed their anniversary for the first time.  And he will miss the holidays.

He is due to leave Iraq January 17

What Steve Bogdanoff is doing is praiseworthy. For a dentist to give up his practice for three months to protect the health of our soldiers is a sacrifice many would not make.

On Thanksgiving, I thank Dr. Bogdanoff and the thousands of other Americans in dangerous places across the globe working to protect us.

(A personal note: My son, Aaron Nevins, is Ellyn Bogdanoff’s district aide.)

This is truly a wonderful thin Dr. Bogdanoff is doing, if everybody in this country would do just a little, not nearly as much as he is doing, we would have a better country in which to live and raise our children.

Also, if families and friends or girlfriends would turn in these men in the black hoodies that are killing and terrorizing Broward County, we would have a better place to live.

You are absolutely right, Beth, the Bounty Hunter. Couldn’t have said it better myself. Thank You for the kind words and people should be thankful for humans of this nature and well being. Maybe they should do some of the same
