Fields: GOP Crucifies America in Power Grab

BY SAM FIELDS

“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, October 2010

Republicans have become so obsessed with the goal of defeating Barack Obama that it is now more important than jobs, the deficit or the wars.

To that end, they have chosen to wreck the economy and drive up unemployment rates so they can put the blame on President Obama.

House Speaker John Boehner, R-OH, on September 16 announced the terms and conditions of the Supercommittee charged with coming up with a couple of trillion in deficit reduction. Taxes were off the table. He and his reactionary posse want failure and then blame it on the Prez.

Rewriting history is another part of the GOP stock and trade to get control of the White House.  At the September 11 GOP debate Mitt Romney attacked Congress’s decision to count Social Security dollars to cover budget deficits.

Hey Mitt, it was Ronald Reagan in 1984 that instituted that phony bookkeeping. Going a little further, it was Al Gore who campaigned in 2000 to reverse that rule.  Remember his incessant cry about putting Social Security back in “a lockbox”? Bush and the rest of the GOP opposed that idea.  They wanted to continue with their Bernie Madoff School of Accounting!

In foreign policy, they have attacked President Obama even when all the evidence shows he was unequivocally right.

In 2008, John McCain, R-AZ, and the GOP stood by the principle that the US should NOT go into Pakistan without the permission of the Pakistan government. McCain’s theory was that it was wrong to use unapproved drone attacks into Pakistan to kill al-Qaida’s Operation chief Abu Hafs al Shahri and Deputy Operations chief Atiyah Abd al Rahman.  Did I forget to mention whacking Osama Bin Laden in August?

Had that last operation failed I am sure Republicans would have been attacking him for not doing it another way.  A few dead Seals would have been great news for the GOP propaganda machine.

On Libya, the GOP is even more blatant. Every single GOP candidate rejected Obama’s air strategy as either too much–Michelle Bachmann, R-MN, and Ron Paul, R-TX–or too little—all the rest of them. Many demanded American troops on the ground.

What they really wanted was a Libyan military disaster so they could point the finger at Obama.

Guess what? He was 100% correct and they were 100% wrong.

He put together a NATO strategy that overthrew the dictator without the loss of a single American life.

You have not heard a positive peep or an apology out of a one of them.

The simple truth is that the President’s GOP opponents have put a power grab by the Republican Party over the needs of the American people.

Is it time to start questioning their patriotism?

Don’t know if it is true, but it sure seems that way, and virtually everything the Republicans do also seems to confirm it.

Republicans and Democrats always disagreed, but years ago use to work to pass legislation they could live with, as recently as Clinton.

No longer. Many Republicans were solely elected to create conflict, not solve problems.

The old saying their way or the highway fits perfectly.

Also, Republicans are competing with Obama as much as themselves. That is why I believe you find a spectrum of opinion where Obama can easily fall right in the middle in viewpoint. As long as no Republican directly agrees with him. That would be blasphemy.

sam, this hurts, as an ex long time republican non social conservative, i have to agree with you, it seems the grand old party is appealing to the rich and the zealots, aka christian and jewish talibans, and to hell with the rest of us . so be it, perhaps when they loose big they might change, when their voices of reason both believe in the seer stones wow

  3. Chip OffDaMarca says:

I agree with Sam. Why do you think I tell the Guv to appoint democrats?
Plus Judy S.told me to cozy up with Democrats and DINOs. It’s good to be the king(maker)

  4. Dean Ledbetter says:

Buddy, why do you run this drivel? This is not editorial; it is simply partisan ranting that whips up the democrat party base. Please don’t get me wrong. I am not questioning Sam F.’s right to say what he deeply feels. But to call it news is more of a logical stretch than I am willing to make.

I do not know Sam F. but I can read and see that he is enough of a thinking man to understand why the Republicans are doing what they are doing. The same as the Dem.’s demonized Bush, both senior and Geo W. when the other party held the White House.

What appears to be true is that politicians will be politicians and their goal is power, pure unadulterated power. They will do anything to get it, to preserve it, to keep it out of the hands of their opposition. Without it they can do nothing. First they must get elected in order to get it. Second they must stay in office in order to keep it. If the opposition has it, then it must be taken away, because without it the politician is less than he could be.

The pages of history are filled with the lives of politicians who complained about the opposition, sometimes with good reason. Like Marcus Brutus complained about Julius Caesar, whom he eventually assassinated and Cicero who complained about Mark Anthony, which eventually got him killed. Like certain accusers in the assembly of Athens complained about Socrates, which got him a death sentence. I certainly would have hoped that by now the level of discourse would have been raised with the level of maturity and education of the listeners, I guess not.

If this has been going on for literally thousands of years why is anyone surprised that any politician would say anything derogatory about his or her opposition? Because words are nothing more than a tool by which the politician gains or looses power. The ideas behind them change. They get picked up, celebrated, spread, aggrandized, memorialized, eulogized and discarded like yesterday’s trash. Pure politicians care little for their deeper meaning the ideas represent. They are simply a tool by which the he or she will succeed or fail in the quest for power.

Do I believe the words of Sam F.? He’s a political operative is he not?

  5. Woody72 says:

Sam, you asked “Is it time to start questioning their patriotism?” OF COURSE ! ! ! Would a patriot do what the conservatives did to this Country during their last eight years leadership? NO ! ! !

The truth about jobs is that under eight years of Bush, private employment shrank by 673,000 jobs, federal employment grew by 50,000 jobs, and local government employment grew by 1,753,000 jobs.” National Review Oct 12 2010”

When Bush took office, unemployment was 4.2. When he left it was 7.8 and going up fast.
    That’s a 3.6% spread. Obama is at 9.2. A 1.4% spread and going down.
When Bush left office the Dow was at 8,000 and its now just under 11,400 under Obama.

    You got it right Sam—
now—more importantly, HOW can those GOP’s be defeated?

Disenfranchied you are full of fairy tales.
Lets take a look at your hero Mr no experience doing anything what so ever….

The Washington Post babbled again today about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush. Amazingly enough, a lot of people swallow this BULL.

So once more, a short civics lesson.

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party.

Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for FY 2008 & FY 2009 as well as FY 2010 & FY 2011.

In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases they passed continuing resolutions to wait for the big spender from Chicago. Thats how they were able to come up with the 1000 page stimulis that has not worked.
In addition what caused the 130,000 folks to be laid off in Louisiana, and the 125,000 waiting for Mr Obama to sign a pipeline bill or does he want Canada to sell the oil they have to China…..an then we have his ag refuseing to prosecute the Black Panthers for beating white voters in Philly…Then we have the Interior Dept refusing to issue oil permits in Alaska…Then we have Holder wanting to try terrorists in America and make them American Citizens…Be proud democrats you are the reason we are in this mess he has spent more than the other 43 Presidents before him in our history. In closing does the name Solar Panels sting yet? By the way we asked for a Special prosecutor to look into that mess and I hear Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin have volunteered ….for the job?
