Donald Trump Event Speech Could Cost Fort Laud. State Rep. George Moriatis

BY BUDDY NEVINS

Pity poor Republican state Rep. George Moraitis.

Moraitis is so desperate to win his re-election that he spoke at the Donald J. Trump rally in Sunrise.  He had everything to lose and nothing to win by his embrace of the controversial candidate.

George Moraitis

He must believe cozying up to Trump shores up support among the GOP voters in Florida House District 93.

Wrong.

Moraitis’ support of Trump could backfire in November against Democratic Ken Keechl.

The east Broward district indeed leans Republican on paper. It has roughly 43,000 registered Republicans compared to 41,000 Democrats and 30,000 independents.  The bulk of these voters, however, are moderate — the kind who abhor Trump.

Yes, there are people who hate Hillary Clinton more. They would have supported Moraitis anyway.

Moraitis can only hope that a majority of District 93 voters are tired of Keechl, who has run losing races for Broward County Commission more than once.

A Naval Academy graduate who went on to be a nuclear submarine officer and commander in the Naval Reserve, Moraitis surprised some by endorsing Trump.  After all, Trump ducked military service in the Vietnam War.

Rather than serve, Trump used his riches and privilege to get deferments from the military.

Trump also attacked Vietnam war hero and U. S. Sen John McCain and the parents of U.S. Army Capt. Human Khan, who was killed in Iraq.

Moraitis also ignored the droves of military, CIA and security officials speaking about how dangerous a Trump presidency will be to the country.

The GOP state representative’s ill-advised speech may end up the best thing for Democrats that the Trump rally produced. It provides Ds with a campaign issue to pick up a House seat.

Rejecting Eleanor Sobel For Mayor

Former Broward County Commissioner Sue Gunzburger has some strong opinions about what direction Hollywood should take in the future.

That future isn’t with former Democratic state Sen. Eleanor Sobel as mayor!

Gunzburger spoke at a recent event for candidate Josh Levy, a lawyer.  She said Hollywood needs “a younger person to move the city into the 21st Century.”

A longtime resident, Gunzburger served with Sobel on the Hollywood City Commission in the 1990s.

Sobel went from the Hollywood City Commission to the state House.  She also had a short term on the Broward County School Board and in 2008 won a seat in the state Senate. She must leave the Senate in November due to term limits.

Gunzburger served 22 years on the Broward County Commission.  She was termed out in 2014.

Both women are seniors.

A link to Levy’s Facebook page is here.

Here is Gunzburger’s comments as seen on Facebook:

“Donald Trump’s Draft Deferments: Four for College, One for Bad Feet

New York Times By STEVE EDER and DAVE PHILIPPS AUG. 1, 2016

Back in 1968, at the age of 22, Donald J. Trump seemed the picture of health.
He stood 6 feet 2 inches with an athletic build; had played football, tennis and squash; and was taking up golf. His medical history was unblemished, aside from a routine appendectomy when he was 10.
But after he graduated from college in the spring of 1968, making him eligible to be drafted and sent to Vietnam, he received a diagnosis that would change his path: bone spurs in his heels.
The diagnosis resulted in a coveted 1-Y medical deferment that fall, exempting him from military service as the United States was undertaking huge troop deployments to Southeast Asia, inducting about 300,000 men into the military that year.
The deferment was one of five Mr. Trump received during Vietnam. The others were for education.”

So sad to know that The Donald had to totally give up golf way back in the “spring of 1968.”

    @Hillaryin2016and2020

Odd, Bill Clinton’s draft history reads almost like that of Donald Trump and he became President!
    An omen??

  4. Joe Goldner says:

I was there and there was more then 12k people more likely 15k people , the stadium was full, There were plenty of people of all ages and all races. they were even gay men and women there along with many seniors and many young people . It was great. This post by this guy was a typical lying democrat who is desperate.

    FROM BUDDY:

I looked at numerous pictures posted by Trump supporters on Facebook and Instagram. Every picture and video shows thousands of empty seats, including the one posted here. Every picture shows a lack of diversity.

  5. Stienger's Lawyer says:

Keechl has so much baggage that I don’t think George has much to worry about.

  6. HillaryIn2016And2020 says:

#4 “they were even gay men and women”

Exactly what does a gay man and a gay woman look like?

And try to learn proper English. The proper spelling is: “there were…”

Were your parents GOP brother and sister? Sure sounds like it!

    YOU LOSER!!!!

  7. HillaryIn2016And2020 says:

#4. Concerning the above actual photo, please circle all the Negroes and Hispanics.

    The world needs to know!

  8. HillaryIn2016And2020 says:

GOP tea bagger #3, please supply us with Bill Clinton’s actual draft history. Please do it, like I did, with actual newspaper articles, the name of the newspaper, author and the date. Just like I did. Unless you have no facts….

  9. HillaryIn2016And2020 says:

#4 There were plenty of people at that rally who were NOT Trump supporters. They were there to see THE FOOL talk. Just like people that go to a circus. They go to see the clowns. Others go to see the sexy ladies. And the GOP takes their small kids to the circus because the little ones love to see the GOP elephants…Future, though dying out, GOP voters!

  10. bill cross says:

I was also there. The picture you show is of the arena about an hour before Trump spoke. In the far right you can see the podium and Trump is not present. I do not know the capacity of the BBT Arena, or even the turnout, but it was crowded with only a day notice of the event. Not bad!

As for George, he spoke very elegantly and discussed the major policy differences between the candidates on how to get the economy back on track. The government with increased taxes (Clinton) or the private sector with tax incentives (Trump)? You decide!

  11. HillaryIn2016And2020 says:

#4 writes: “There were plenty of people of all ages and all races.”

Really? All races? Please explain how The Donald receives 0%, as in ZERO PERCENT, of NEGROES in some polls?

This is the first time in the HISTORY of polling that any candidate is receiving ZERO PERCENT in ANY POLL.

    …..

  12. Buddy You Are Wrong says:

    Buddy,

I was at the event, not because I am a Trump supporter, but because I had to see one of these shit shows, I mean Trump rallies for myself. And I have to say I was shocked on how many African American and Latino people I saw there. I can’t speak to gay/lesbian, well because they don’t necessarily have a look or wear a sign but there definitely was diversity. Young and old, male female, black – white – Hispanic. I still think he is unfit to be president, but the narrative that only white people are voting for him is WRONG and democrats need to wake up to the fact that just because CNN and MSNBC says this race is over, doesn’t mean it is so.

When pollster conduct polls, they call me who have voted in previous elections. I think Trump has shown from the primaries, that he is bringing in millions of people who have never voted before and thus wouldn’t be called to be polled. I think it would be a YUUUGE mistake to just assume that Hillary has this locked up.. Don’t forget 2000.. People thought W was an idiot, said the craziest shit and Gore was going to win with no problem. How did that work for Al? Right.. My point exactly..

    FROM BUDDY:

I agree that Democrats had better realize that Trump could win.

  13. arena full says:

Buddy, the picture you have posted was taken before trump came, early in the warm up. I have a frame of the same shot with all the seats full. Email me and I will send it to you. You must be talking the the crooked media if they say the place was not packed. I have pictures in all directions if you want to post them. Lots of diversity. Even Mark Foley was there.

  14. Do Not Forget the Past says:

Keechl: the guy who paid his mortgage with campaign contributions, wined and dined 88 times with other people’s money, went on lavish trips with his partner with taxpayers money, referred to himself, Ritter and Lieberman as the 3 queens.
This guy spent taxpayer’s money with reckless disregard and was known as the pay to play commissioner, just ask Howard Finkelstein and Ron Book.(see Broward Beat blog in 2010)

  15. HillaryIn2016And2020 says:

#12: “When pollster conduct polls, they call me who have voted in previous elections.”

You saying pollsters ONLY call citizens that have voted in the past? That is so wrong. You GOP TOTAL LOSER!! They use voter registration lists. Doesn’t matter if you have voted or not in the past.

    FROM BUDDY:

Actually well constructed polls call only those who have voted consistently in previous elections, i.e., so-called “likely voters” or “super voters.”

  16. HillaryIn2016And2020 says:

#13: “Even Mark Foley was there.”

You really proud to bring up Mark Foley?

    hahahahhahahaha

Foley resigned from Congress on September 29, 2006 acting on a request by the Republican Leadership after allegations surfaced that he had sent suggestive emails and sexually explicit instant messages to teenage boys who had formerly served and were at that time serving as Congressional pages.

Thank you that a child molester is supporting THE DONALD!

    Parents, hide all your kids!

  17. HillaryIn2016And2020 says:

Plenty of people go to Trump rallies JUST to see THE CLOWN!

Don’t assume all those are going to vote for The Donald.

Hell, I would go to a Trump rally. Love to see all the fighting and punches thrown.

I don’t have to pay for it!

  18. A reader says:

    @# 8

A simple Google search tells the whole story of Bill Clinton and his military deferments. He skated by serving his country in the Armed Forces and he became President. An omen?

  19. Talks like a politician says:

    @ # 14
Good job of describing the real Ken Keechl. He does indeed have a lot old baggage. People’s memories are short, but his activities were so obvious, maybe they will trip him up.

  20. WestDavieResident says:

@Hillary2016, I haven’t seen the word “Negroes” in print since the early ’60s! Most people used the term “Black” starting in the late 60’s. That is until the PC Police starting using “African Americans” I believe in the early 90’s when the Dems starting dividing the nation by race, gender, income, and then sexual preference.

So if you are going to call Trump and his supporters “racist”, you might start watching your own language or we might confuse you with the late Robert Byrd, former Democratic Senate Leader who was an avowed KKK member who often used that term until his death in 2010.

  21. Disgusted says:

Trump in 2016 and 2020. Hopefully that filthy criminal Killary will still be in jail. How you morons could even think about voting for the criminal Shrillary for President simply amazes me. I never realized how many stupid people there are in this country.

  22. Dog Killer of the Past says:

Keechl: the guy who pushed through an ordinance to kill dogs. One bite and punishment of death.

  23. JRS says:

Buddy, I also have many photos from the other night. If you would like them let me know.
We have two people to pick from the first one should be in jail and she does not care about you or me. The second one is someone that has built great businesses and cares about the people so they have the American Dream. The right person is to vote for Mr. Trump.

    FROM BUDDY:

Thanks for the offer. I have a lot of photos, too.
