Dems Shocked As Lamberti Comes To Party Event

BY BUDDY NEVINS

He didn’t crash the party.

Oh, no.  The Broward County Sheriff wouldn’t go where he wasn’t wanted.

Or would he?

The strangest guest at the Broward Democratic Party’s Unity Dinner on Saturday was the county’s leading Republican Sheriff Al Lamberti.

Lamberti: Mixing With The Dems

Seeing county’s most visible member of the GOP at the premier local Democratic event shocked and annoyed some of the almost 500 Ds at the dinner at the Marriott Heron Bay.

“The reception was very, very chilly, said a Democratic insider.

According to a party activist, Lamberti was invited by a group that has become his pet Democrats —  the Dolphin Democratic Club.

The Dolphins have upset some hardcore Ds by cozying up to the Republican sheriff, openly courting him and giving him tickets to their events, said an insider.

It might mean trouble for the big gay, lesbian and transgender political club.

“They are flaunting the rules of the Democratic Party by giving the Republican sheriff a forum, a Democratic activist complained.

If there are complaints coming my way, how long until the state party gets a formal complaint?

  1. Funny to see the Dems with their panties in a twist.
“oh no…my night was ruined because there was a Republican in the room”.
One Dem. activist complained that the sheriff had a “forum”. What the hell? A forum?
I went to Boys and Girls Club function at Signature Grand. I am sure that people who saw me there said that I had a “forum”.
I have attended both the Jefferson-Jackson (Dem) and Lincoln (Repub) events over the years. I always see Dems at the Repub events and vice versa.
This is more to do with hurt feelings and small mindedness…

  2. I disagree with Tempest. This was a partisan event and there should have been no appearances by the Republican sheriff, who we will deal with him in two years with a good Democratic candidate.

  3. dolphin dems prez albetta who lamberti was sitting with works for the car dealerhsip where bso buys their cars….

  4. I did not vote for Al Lamberti. But I think his decision to attend to the Democratic party event was a very smart move. If the Democrats didn’t want him there they should have refunded his money and sent him packing. They chose not to do that and therefore he was welcome to attend.

His presence there signals that he wants Democratic votes, not just Republican votes. But wanting those votes and earning them are two different things. Attending a Democrat event and bringing Democrats into BSO are also two very different things.

In the last election Lamberti won with a combination of both Republican and Democrat votes. He also got a fair share of the Independents. He has been saying that he is not the Republican sheriff but the county’s sheriff. That’s rhetoric unless he demonstrates that fact on the basis of who serves on his management team.

Democrats should take advantage of his appearance by demanding that he demonstrate how he has been willing to represent the entire community by including them on his management team. Don’t allow his statement and presence at an event to be an empty gesture instead of a demonstrated commitment.

Democrats should make him act like the sheriff of all Broward that he says he is. Let him prove it in visible ways. How many are on the BSO management team are Democrats versus Republicans and Independents? Show us Sheriff that you are truly committed to what you say and not just offering us hollow rhetoric and smart political maneuvering.

  5. right now there is total lawlessness in the democratic party,The chair Mitchel Ceasar has appeared to lose his leadership abilities he will hold pending charters of present Democratic clubs because they are not supporters if his,but he will allow the Dolphin Democratic club violate Democrtic Party rules.
    “HAIL CEASAR”

FROM BUDDY: I’m not up on Democratic Party rules, but I believe the Dolphins are chartered by the state and not the county organization. Thus Ceasar may not have control over them.

Then again, he is the boss, the big enchilada, the leader, the chair, the D’s capo di tutti capi. If he wanted to get tough, he could find a way.

  6. Lambreti loves Broward County, Dem or Rep who cares he has shown he is the peoples people, got to love him

  7. BUDDY YOU ARE 100% CORRECT THEY ARE UNDER THE RULES OF THE STATE,BUT IT WAS A COUNTY EVENT,UNDER HIS WATCH.HE WAS THE EMCEE HE COULD HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE PUBLIC,RATHER THEN HIM HAVING THE GUTS TO REMOVE HIM FROM THE VIP ROOM HE WAS TELLING OTHER PEOPLE TO ASK HIM TO LEAVE,I GUESS WHAT HARRY TRUMAN SAID THE BUCK STOPS WITH HERE ,DOES NOT APPLY TO CEASAR.ALSO NOBODY FROM THE STATE PARTY,AFL-CIO,AND NEITHER GOVENOR OR SENATE CANDIDATE LEADERS SINK AND MEEK WERE NOT PRESENT,ONLY TWO COUNTY COMMISSIONER WASSERMAN RUBIN ANS KHEEL WERE PRESENT,THE ONLY CONSTITUTIONAL COUNTY OFFICERS WERE BRENDA SNIPES AND REPUBLICAN SHERIFF AL LAMBERTI.NO SHOWS WERE SATZ,FINKELSTEIN,PARRISH,AND HOWARD FORMAN,EVEN STACY RITTER WAS NOT PRESENT,SORRY ABOUT THE CAPITAL

  8. Funny, I thought it was called a “Unity” dinner. Something tells me there were other registered Republicans at that event.

And I can tell you I don’t really ask what the party affiliation is of a law enforcement officer when I need their assistance.

  9. BSO buys their cars via a State of Florida contract that all government entities in Florida are required to use. This “piggy-back” system of procurment assures that the taxpayers aren’t paying too much. Nice try, newsflash. Do you even know how many cars BSO buys each year? seriously…

  10. that is true, but there was no reason for law enforcement assistennce at a Democratic party dinner, that the way it is when u r a sheriff u run under a party affilation, this was not a law enforcement seminer,Lamberti has always been a republican, the unity dinner was anther ceasar ideas because he thought he was getting support from the seminoles who also didnt participate

  11. I take it that everybody has forgotten the late Bill Markham. For almost all of his tenure as Property Appraiser he was an “R”. Yet he was more than welcome at every Democratic event large or small. I guess we really have gotten small minded in the last 10 years.

  12. does anybody realize Mitch has no juice. the lack of constitutional officers, county commissioners, school board members, city mayors and commissioners…stuck out more than Jimmy Durante’s nose.

and if the Broward County Sheriff chose to attend, he should be lauded for he is the top public safety official in a county of 1.7 million people. IF mitch was trying to get him removed from a VIP room, he should be ashamed of himself (and it sounds just like Mitch to ask others to do it for him).

  13. It appears that no one on this blog was actually at the dinner – I was. I sat at the same table as many of the Dolphin Democrats. We knew he was there but there was no shock or disrespect shown to the man. He made his way around the tables, shaking hands. Don’t try to make something out of nothing – because it was nothing.
Buddy – again, your Republican agenda is clouding the facts

FROM BUDDY: Those quoted in the post were actually at the event.

It is ironic that someone who sat at the Dolphin table, among those who have been falsely accused for years of having an sinister “gay agenda” would throw the charge at me that I have a ominous “Republican agenda.”

Would that be the “Republican agenda” of Marco Rubio or Charlie Crist? Would that be the “Republican agenda” of moderate U. S. Sen. Olympia Snowe or ultra-conservative Jim DeMint? Would that be the “Republican agenda” of moderate and sometimes liberal New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg or conservative former Davie Mayor Tom Truex?

    Hmmmm.

I have no ideological or politcal agenda. I generally couldn’t care less.

  14. Broward School Teacher what am I missing,This was A Democratic fundraiser, for Democratics to promote Democratic candidates and Democratic ideas,The Dolphin DEMOCRATIC club knows the county rules, they were at a county democratic dinner and even tho they are under state rule they should have shown courtesy at the county unity dinner in coral springs at herron bay.
Al Lamberti knows he needs democratic support to win and lacks confidence, actually he looked like a sorry soul

  15. to Knowledge:

WHAT? shut up! anybody can go to anything they want, and shouldn’t a political party pride itself on being inclusive, a mindset normally tagged to the “R’s”, not the “D’s”. this is why dems are losing ground by the minute and by the way, i am a “D”.

  16. mr ted the loser haggard you tell me to shut up,but then you tell everybody to be inclusive see clowns like Al Mr Politibal lamberti and all your friends at the republican lincoln dinner would be thrilled and sing we are the world should democratic senators, constitutional officers showed up,you once again are a fool because it was a Demccratic dinner for Demcratic priciples. It is great that your sheriff is a political party animial

  17. to Knowedge:

that is Ted Now Hetero Haggard to you!

listen, i can’t help it you supported Scott “hand out Israeili flags at the poll sites” Israel, another non democrat for most of his life but he switched because he was an opportunist!

if he had come to the dinner , would you have felt better with your non Democratic Democrat!

Get over it, Lamberti was the better man, even if he is a Republican. you know how many Democratic zealot types voted for Al because Scott was a phony!

  18. no I still will call you clown,Laberti is a political hack including his confidantes in the sheriffs dept,AL Lamberti is a politcal lacky, your man mr non political lol, managed to remain silent while he was a major workinG under Ken Jenne, how is wile thompson doing at the sheriffs dept at 120,000$ A YEAR.THE PHONY IS YOUR MAN NON POLITICAL AL LOL

  19. Does Al visit rothstein his former buddy who raised him money in his campaign, after all that is the least he could do?????

  20. to “ALERT” and “KNOWLEDGE”:

lamberti won as a republican countywide in a resounding Democratic County when Obama was running and at the height of his popularity. weep in your shirley temple drinks, losers… when you begin to face reality, join me for a real drink at Jacksons and we’ll have a smoke so I can show you what real politics is, not the Alice in Wonderland fantasy Mitch Ceasar Democratic lack of Party world you are subsisting in..

  21. yes al the fake lamberti yes we are weeping wow al political lamberti told us he was non political with friends ,like Tom WHEELER,CHARLIE,I WILL LOSE THE SENATE RACE CHRIST,SCOTT ROTHSTEIN AND JAY HURLEY AND ALL THOSE WINNERS.WOW WHAT A LIST OF WHOS WHO.I WAS GLAD TO SEE LT BENJAMIN DOING HIS LAW ENFORCEMENT DUTIES WHEN ROTHSTEIN WENT TO MORRACCO,IT IS A SHAME YOU ARE SUCH A LAMBERTI HACK.THANK GOD ONLY TWO MORE YEARS.IF YOU READ MY ABOVE POSTS YOU WILL SEE I AM NOT A MITCH CEASAR FAN,I AGREE HE LOST TOUCH

  22. To Knowledge:

well, if you ain’t a Mitch Ceasar fan, there is hope for you.

    Jack Seiler for Sheriff, hmm….

Ken Keechel for Property Appraiser? GUFFAW, CHUCKLE, TEE HEE…..

  23. TO: “Smart Move Al”

I wanted to take a moment to address you statement regarding the Sheriff placing Dems within his Command Staff.
I think if you look closely, you will find that many of his Command Staff are actually Dems…His Executive Officer, Prichard, is a Dem and actually a faily active one within his party at that, his recently appointed Human Resource Director is also a Dem, former FBI Deputy Director Wiley Thompson, also a Dem and former Dem candidate for Sheriff, and his lead Community Relations guy, Berkowitz, is also a Dem.
All partisan BS aside, Lamberti is a very good man and probably the least partisan Sheriff Broward County has ever had. His relationship with a number of Democratic organizations within Broward, as well as the number of Broward County’s various City and County Democratic Politicians he has close relationships with, proves it!

    Go AL Go!!!!

  24. Oh yes as far as ceasar goes it time to go.
    Chief Adderely for sheriff lol
stacy ritter for state attorney 3/4 quarters will be solved

  25. to KNOWLEDGE:

Would you be willing to run against Mitch?? Someone seriously committed to working for it, far in advance of Dec. 2012, could win, if they committed to it and worked smart!

I would be willing to back anyone seriously committed and all joking aside, could really help.

  26. THE only problem is Mitch gets his Public deffenders buddies to fill the precinents he puts them in empty areas, the public deffenders sign in, they give the ballots to one guy and he walks around to different boxes when they collect the ballots, ceasar gets reelected then you dont see them for 4 years and they are not removed or purged from the area

  27. The anger toward Republicans cracks me up.
Big deal, the sheriff came to a dinner.
If the dinner was so damn important where was Satz, Finkelstein, Ritter, et. al.?
As a practical matter, what was Mitch Ceasar supposed to do? Go up to the sheriff with bouncers and remove him?
Here is a thought in hindsight: Mitch and others showed class. They let it go.
I would suggest that if Ritter or Parrish, or Satz shows up at the Republican Lincoln dinner there would be not be one issue about their presence.
We know the real reason for this psuedo-controversy. The dems who are plotting to run against the sheriff were in attendance and got hurt feelings.
Oh, this was so darn funny.

  28. no it was a democratic function, there was a lack of leadership and rules were violated.the old expression dont do as i do ,do as I aay applied,no the problem is that certain people want to pick and choose the democrats they want when they are part of democratic organization,no big deal if you are a democratic club endorsing a republican change your name to a civic organization.
Besides you are joking ythe republican would scream at the top of there lungs if a democrat showed up.
why dont somsbody check with Chip DEMARCA to see if demcratic candidates are welcome at there lincoln day dinner?,This is nothing more then a Democratic Club that knows they are violating the rules and look for every excuse to blame someone else, and besides even if someone is running against the Sheriff it is a right, not a plot,if there is a plot it is coming from the dems supporting lamberti,

  29. now come on “knowledge”:

you gotta give me one thing, like lamberti or not, scott israel was an over the top DANGEROUS, fomer violent cop and a true republican who switched to win in democratic broward county. handing out israeli flags and playing on his name was outrageous, and from every indication, he left everybody with the impression he was jewish, and it has since been confirmed he was not jewish. even if he was jewish, it would have been in poor taste to hand out the flags.

rationally, all partisanship aside, lamberti was the better candidate and person. you gotta admit this.

  30. I will respectfully disagree,AlLamberti is a major disappointment,it appears that Lamberti has brought back his old friends from the good ole boy system, hiring his old friends when they couldnt have cared less about a deverse community. Its a pity that the hard working rank and file is held to a different standard then some of Lambertis confidants who were responsible to protect the public would assist a fugitive to leave the country, the undersheriff and one of his LTS IN THE SCOTT ROTHSTEIN CASE,ONE OF HIS HIGHER ups son allowed to leave without be held accountable in a drug arrest.Lamberti has been doing the town for 34 yrs, when ken jenne got indited Lamberti was a major who remaind silent until he had to call the govenor for an appointment.now he shows up at a democratic function no he is not politcal lol.scott Israel is a good cop who was falsely accused .no non political al could not run on his record,it is really a pity that the rank and file is held to a different standard by al friends,so far his confadants have got a minor slap on the arrest for helping a fugitive ,including giving them free tickets in aprivate plan of a fugitive what stinks with this picture

  31. good morning, “Knowledge”

to my points about the disaster that didn’t happen, Scott Israel? i await your response.

  32. hi nowhertero
The disaster already did happen with Al Lamberti, there is no going back,it is like a mother nature disaster once it happens you cant go back.
    take care

  33. Hey “Knowledge”,

I’m beginning to hear you. You’re no fan of Scott Israel, but You think Lamberti is a disaster. in the ballpark?

  34. Hey Ted

you must admit that Israel and Laberti looked great in comparsion to SHAK wowwwwwww there was a winner

  35. from the Democratic side, i would, in hindsight, probably say LeMac was the best, BUT he had issues in Hollywood that were of a relataively significant nature. Bruce U. was/is an incredibly skilled lawyer (good former prosecutor’s experience), but he defended, amongst others, that FBI Agent Farrell (and got him off) who drove on the wrong side of I95 and killed the 2 young men in a horrible crash.

  36. HI
ISID NOT LIKE UDELL.I LIKED LEMACK THE ONLY THING THAT CONCERNED ME EVERYTIME I ASKED HIM ABOUT A SCANDAL IN HOLLYWOOD INCLUDING THE FBI INVESTIGATION OF THE POLICE DEPT AND THE WASSERSTRON CASE CONSIDERING HE WAS THE ASSIS TCHIEF AND ASSISTANT CITY MANGER HE WOULD ALWAYS SAY HE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT,WHICH INDICATES TO ME HE WAS PART OF THE GOOD OLE BOY SYSTEM IN HOLLYWOOD

  37. to Knowledge:

bottom line on sheriff’s race: bad news from both sides, both parties, hope none of them run again in 3 and one half years.

  38. hey ted
your right it was not a great field at all, I hope 2014 brings better candidates who stand for something

  39. to Knowledge:

the underlying theme i see in all the county constitutional offices/office holders and the county commission, ESPECIALLy the School Board, and even bigger cities ie. hollywood, ft. lauderdale, is there a general tendency to sort of put the head in the sand and let things continue to operate the same way….all of these governmental offices, instituions, need to continuously self assess, self evaluate, revamp, tweak…their practices instead of just doing the same things the same way year after year..when things were good, not as big a deal, now look at things being in a bad way and there is general hysteria…and nothing is more aggravating than seeking elected officials moan and act wide eyed when the major scandal of the month hits…responsible oversight and assessment would head off a lot of this …

  40. curiousO
I agree with you, when the movey was coming into these offices when economic times were good they were spending a lot of money adminstratively, for fancy offices and fancy technlogy, this made these officials spend money over there heads, not taking into consideration that the economy could take a turn for the worse, know that the economy is on rough times people know want to know where there money was spent. The elected officals used there budget money spebding it on thing to prove why they should be reelected and looking to spend more money on lobbyist projects so they could give them more campiagn contibutions ,so it is impossble to beat an incumbamt,to ge to panic should be when the econimy is good and these elected officials have more money to spend.acouple of years ago these elected officials had runaway spending, now they have to cut spending which will be a mess,
what ever happened to the expression save for a rainy day

  41. to Knowledge:

in viewing government and watching the dynamics (and i won’t address the campaign contributions issue), i just can’t 100 percent broadbrush lobbyist projects as bad. you hear about the bad projects, but there are many good ones lobbyists bring. it’s like anything.

  42. no I never implied that all lobbyist are bad.what I believe is that a lot of lobbyist are very good to incumbants who help them get there projects passed,And yes there are a lot of good projects passed a lot of them are beyond the pale to the point a lot of campaigns recieve campaign cash for there cash cow projects,my goodness check a lot of the campaign reports
