BY BUDDY NEVINS

Steve Wexler, the husband of County Commissioner Lois Wexler, died suddenly on Saturday.

Steve and Lois Wexler, 2010

Mr. Wexler, 68, suffered from cardiac distress and a stroke at his home.  He died after roughly 10 hours at Westside Regional Medical Center, according to information given the other commissioners by a county administrator.

Steve and Lois Wexler had been married 42 years.

Mr. Wexler had a window treatment and design business for many years. He was semi-retired.

The news shocked the Broward political world.

“He was a warm, smart and fun-loving member of our community.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends,” wrote Sunrise Democratic leader Barbara Effman in an e-mail.

The Wexler’s have two daughters and two grandchildren.

Services  have been scheduled for Monday, November 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the Levitt Weinstein Memorial Chapel, 3201 Northwest 72nd Avenue, Hollywood. If you wish to send a note of condolence, it can be addressed to 510 Torchwood Ave, Plantation, Florida 33324.

I was shocked and horrified when I heard this morning.

Steve and Lois were an absolutely terrific couple. They cared about each other so much. Steve was a warm and wonderful individual, who would only get upset in defense of Lois. I saw them last only a few weeks ago, and he looked great. We will all miss him, and I feel so bad for Lois.

  24. ron book says:

There are never sufficient words to comfort someone who has lost a loved one. When you lose a spouse, a partner who you love, care for, respect, and who has been in life what a partner is supposed to be, the pain is even more immeasurable and words of comfort are even harder to provide comfort. Lois has lost that person. Steve supported Lois as a wife, as a partner, woman, and as a leader. Steve encouraged Lois to help make the difference she has made in the community. Elected officials give so much of themselves that cause the family sacrifice of time. We all take that for granted and we should not. Words are helpful, but prayers of care for Lois’ continued strength as she deals with this pain is what we can ask for from friends and the community as a whole. Steve Wexler was not just a good man, a good husband, a good father and dad and not just a business guy, and not just anything……..he was a mensch of a husband and partner in the truest sense, supporting and encouraging greatness from the woman he loved. Steve will be missed, but Steve loved amd was loved. Our thoughts and prrayers are now to Lois and her entire family to have the strength to move forward.

  25. Bart Peluso says:

Our Thoughts and prayers go out to Lois and her family. I personally didn’t know Steve but I do know Lois and I am sure such a wonderful and caring woman would only be married to a wonderful and caring man.

    Our deepest condolences
