Newspaper Snafu Has Commissioner For Sale

BY BUDDY NEVINS

A newspaper snafu on Monday made it appear that Broward County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs was for sale.

And for cheap — $112.98.

The Miami Herald website on Monday posted a story with a picture of Kristin Jacobs wearing large price tags ($99.99 and $12.99 for a total of $112.98) on her clothes from Marshalls.  That’s right, price tags.

Somebody at The Herald must have come to their senses and realized that the original picture made an editorial statement about Jacobs.

Maybe after this comment on its website:

Roland Rio Jr.

Really? A picture of a Mayor with Marshall’s price tags hanging off her? The Miami Herald didn’t have a picture of Broward Mayor Kristin Jacobs sitting at a desk or standing at a podium or doesn’t have anyone who knows how to properly crop a picture? By the way… Good on Ms. Jacobs for being brave enough to put the rights of her constituents before Gov. Rick Scott’s petty politics.

By today, The Herald website had cropped the picture so that the price tags didn’t show.

Two people are at fault here.

First, The Herald editor who allowed this picture to run.

Second, Jacobs.  Why did she ever pose in a picture with oversized price tags hanging off of her?  What was she thinking…or not thinking? Didn’t she realize the picture confirmed everything folks thought about politicians being for sale?

What’s to say that some graphics fool at the Herald didn’t slap the tags on her? I see no evidence here to indicate Jacobs actually posed wearing tags. Maybe she did. More likely not … unless it was for a charity function involving Marshalls.

    FROM BUDDY:

And I see no evidence that what you say is true. If what you say is true, then somebody at the Herald should be fired.

Even if it is a charity event, she shouldn’t have posed with them on. Wanna bet this pix comes back to haunt her in a campaign?

  2. H2obob says:

She allowed it to happen because she has the brain of a gnat.

  3. liarliar says:

What a phony. Ive spotted her at Saks. She can’t keep it straight can she.
    Oh well.
    Byyyyyyeeeee Kristin.

  4. The Real Truth says:

If she paid $12.99 not that scarf she paid too much. Just doesn’t go well with the jacket

  5. Floridan says:

Really? Could you find one person who would say “you know, I was going to vote for Kristin Jacobs, but after seeing that photo I’ve changed my mind; she must be a crook.”

Sheez . . . talk about a slow news day.

  6. right wing says:

just another femlib Obama cheerleader.br cnty commission is a bad, sad joke

  7. Fergy says:

She is an idiot. That is why she would pose.

  8. Michael Colapietro says:

I didn’t even know the Miami Herald still existed.

  9. Kristin Is Dumb says:

The reason for this picture is that Krstin Jacobs has a single digit IQ

  10. Patti Lynn says:

The fence and logo in the background indicate ‘Women in Distress.” Obviously, Mayor Jacobs was doing a promotion/fundraiser/community service to benefit WID. How difficult is it to recruit honest, dedicated public servants, when anonymous folks snipe at efforts to improve our community? I appreciate the Mayor’s efforts, not only for Women in Distress, but for the many other organizations that she has assisted since her election to the Board of County Commissioners.

    FROM BUDDY:

Regardless of the origin of the picture, she should have insisted in not posing with price tags.

In addition, the picture had no relationship to the article. Running it with that particular article was clearly a mistake by somebody in The Miami Herald organization.

Leave the gnats out of it.

  14. Jane Miguel says:

Just saw Broward County Mayor Kristin Jacobs on MSNBC and she (and other county commissioners) did make a stand against Gov. Rick Scott’s plan to stop Obamacare in Florida.

Buddy, you are making a stink about a photo with price tags when the country needs their elected officials to lead on issues that will impact their lives.

IMHO, you are losing sight of the big picture. What has happened to your journalistic insight? You really believe voters will think Mayor Jacobs can be bought for $111 and change from a photograph taken from a charity event. If so, other local charity fundraising events photos such as ACS Jail n’ Bail, in which “arrest” photos are taken, can be used as a
campaign smear tactic. Politicians will have to stop participating in local charity events in order to “appear” untainted.

Stop focusing on “looks” and “perception”. Pay attention to actual “deeds” and “acts” our politians are doing on our behalf. BTW, I am not a fan of the Mayor. She does give off that “I am better than you” politician vibe I personally cannot stand. She ain’t humble, that’s for sure.
